“A great and quite spacious cottage in a quiet location.”

The village itself is well served by at least 4 quality and welcoming pubs. Had no problem parking outside the cottage. There was a shop in the village but this was damaged by fire a couple of years ago and has never reopened. No problem - there is a coop at seascale 5/10 minutes away. Gosforth is an excellent base for the western lakes, you can easily get to Cockermouth, Whitehaven, Ravenglass, Workington & many others. The decoration in the cottage was a little quirky but we loved it, everything clean and comfortable. Shower was hot, bed was soft. The back is a shared yard. The hosts were unbelievably helpful, even sending an e mail of the welcome pack a week or so before. Would thoroughly recommend!

Whitecroft Nook is a thoughtfully decorated property where vibrant colours reflect the surrounding countryside: the red, iron-rich earth, the lush green forest, the deep blue lake and the yellow flashes of gorse bushes are all echoed in the interior design.A cosy sitting room with stripped wooden floors, a log burner and exposed original stonework, invites you and your loved ones to relax and unwind as you plan your holiday itinerary over a bottle of wine.Or perhaps to settle in for a box set on the smart TV.Meanwhile, a fully-equipped kitchen/diner houses all of the appliances the chosen chef will need to prepare a delicious, home-cooked dinner that can be enjoyed at the oak breakfast bar.In this space, local slate, copper tones and rich colours create a relaxed atmosphere and continue to marry the old with the new.

Upstairs, the blend of modern comforts and period features continue in two well appointed bedrooms.A double and a twin. Both bedrooms are served by a family bathroom with bath and shower over.Bedding and towels are provided.

When you’re ready to venture out, lace up your boots and set off to explore what’s on offer in Gosforth and beyond.A brief walk will take you to the Gosforth Bakery and the Yam Frae Yam Café, where tasty baked treats and a coffee can be savoured, respectively.During your time in the village, be sure to also pop into Gosforth Hall Inn and The Kellbank for hearty pub food, whilst a peaceful walk along the River Bleng to Blengdale Forest is also a must. The local church is also well worth a visit and in the churchyard you will spot the tallest Viking cross in Cumbria.A short drive (or cycle if you have brought bikes) will take you to Wast Water, the deepest lake in England and voted the best view in Britain. There are many beautiful spots along the lakeshore for wild swimming, paddle boarding, walking, picnics or simply enjoying nature. At Wasdale Head, a tiny hamlet at the end of the lake, you will find a great walkers pub, a historic church, and the car park which is often used as the starting point for hikers climbing Scafell Pike - the highest mountain in England. Also within easy reach of Gosforth there are delightful villages such as Nether Wasdale and Ravenglass, stunning waterfalls such as Stanley Ghyll and the crystal clear Eskdale natural pools for the brave to wild swim or dip!

For those seeking coastal delights why not visit nearby Seascale for bucket and spade fun or St Bees Head for invigorating cliff walks and seabirds.Alternatively (and ideal for rainy days) why not visit Muncaster Castle and Owl Sanctuary or take a trip on the Ravenglass and Eskdale Steam Railway.Guaranteed to be a hit with families of all ages!
