“Eller Close House is a beautiful, high spec house that felt like a home from home with fantastic views that can be seen from the living room, 2 of the bedrooms and one of the bathrooms.”

The listing and photos are accurate but the living room pictures undersell the room which was beautifully done and very cosy. We stayed as a family of 4 with 2 young teenagers. The listing and photos are accurate but the living room pictures undersell the room which was beautifully done and very cosy. We stayed as a family of 4 with 2 young teenagers. It had everything we needed and the baths were appreciated at the end of a long day of walking! Its location is great for walkers with a huge choice of great walks on the door step. It is also 5 minutes walk from The Swan, 12 minutes from the centre of Grasmere, 10 minutes from The Travellers Rest and 20 minutes from The Yan. We ate out every night and didn’t need to move the car. The property is not suitable for people with mobility issues due to the steep paths from the shared parking area to the house. I would also have been very nervous with small children due to the stream ( fenced) that runs through the grounds - beautiful for us! We will definitely be back! …….Note for the owners- There is a boiling water tap in the kitchen which pretends to be just the hot tap which gave me a shock, it spent the rest of the week with an egg cup over it to remind us of the danger. A small notice would remove the risk of scalding. The weather turned the week we arrived so we could not make use of the garden but it is worth noting that you can’t see the view sat at the garden table as the hedge is just a little too high, if it was my property I would take a foot off it! We enjoyed the view from the small patio with a cuppa instead. Finally, when we arrived there was a sewage smell coming from the bath in the second bathroom. We ran the water and it disappeared straight away and didn’t return . We suspect the bath had not been used for a few weeks so it’s worth the cleaners doing that each time.

About the location

GRASMERE

Ambleside 5 miles; Windermere 9 miles; Keswick 13 miles.

Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family has been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century, and Grasmere Lake. Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere, and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance.
