Holly Cottage

Holly Cottage is in a stunning location backing onto a river and down a back lane in Grasmere.

The living room is spacious and there was plenty of room to park our two cars. The kitchen is a decent size and the cooker was a joy to use. The beds were very comfortable and having two toilets / bathrooms was also a real asset. This was our second visit and we are planning to book Holly Cottage again next year.

The boiler did not work on arrival so we had no heating or hot water for 2 days, not ideal with 2 young children.

It was impossible to speak to anybody at Sykes about this issue and it took far too long for it to be resolved. The property does not feel well looked after, there was a lot of dust and cobwebs and dog hair. The bath panel needs replacing and the lighting cords in the bathrooms are very dirty. Very little property information available in the welcome pack - could not get any signal for 'normal' TV so could only watch Netflix etc. On the plus side, the location is perfect, and the supply of logs very welcome, which is a nice touch that is not usually a given when staying in holiday cottages.

We have stayed at Holly Cottage many times and the fact that we return every year says it all, really.

We love staying here, the cottage is comfortable, warm and well equipped. It’s in a great location, handy for shops, beautiful walks right on the doorstep, and ample private parking.

We have had a lovely few days at Holly Cottage.

The location is spot on for exploring the Lakes and the many beautiful walks it offers. The cottage kitchen was very well equipped, some tea or coffee on arrival would have been a better touch than the toiletries (all previous cottages we have stayed have provided sachets of tea/coffee)- fortunately the Co-op is very close. The bedding in the twin room needs an update, one duvet was covered in blood stains. The sofa and chairs are not comfy, when you’ve been walking all day a nice sofa is definitely needed! The logburner was great, no issues with it. I would advise the cleaners to leave a bed of ash though as it facilitates lighting and a more efficient burn. The decor in the cottage is a bit tired as one would expect at the end of the season. All in all we’ve had a great few days and would definitely recommend Holly cottage.

We had an excellent stay in Holly cottage, it was warm, very clean, spacious , we enjoyed the wood burner and wouldn’t hesitate to stay again.

It was so convenient with the parking right in the centre of Grasmere but still very private.

Another visit to this lovely cottage and we have already booked our next one.

Cosy, comfortable and immaculately clean. Very well equipped and in a perfect location with off street parking. Couldn’t ask for more.

Cottage was clean on arrival but dusty & lots of cobwebs.

Settee in living room very uncomfortable. Wardrobes in our bedroom damp , clothes felt damp each morning. Cottage is in excellent location with great parking. Cottage very well equipped, beds very comfortable. Grandchildren loved the games selection.

Great property in a great location

Probably been to Holly Cottage many times over the years as it is in one of our favourite villages and so central we hardly use the car!

Our family all commented this time as we as 2 years ago how uncomfortable the sofa and chairs are and barely enough room for 6 adults now our grandchildren are teenagers - a bit of a squeeze around the fire! This is a minor point but a shower caddy in downstairs shower would help us oldies bending down. Also recycling instructions need to be clearer and more internal bins needed if we have to follow the rules. Very good cleaners as house was spotless. Liking the new coatstand in Hall-holds umpteen coats without falling over.

We have stayed at Holly Cottage several times and it never disappoints, the location is perfect and the cottage is warm, well equipped and comfortable.

Our only “issue” was the log burner (which despite my best efforts failed to stay lit for more than five minutes! We couldn’t fault the plentiful supply of kindling, logs, fire lighters and newspaper, and we do have a log burner at home so I’m used to them….but it just wouldn’t draw) We were perfectly warm enough without it though as the heating system is very efficient. We had a great stay and we hope to return next year

Lovely house in a central location in beautiful grasmere.

The house was clean , warm and had everything we needed .

We last stayed at Holly Cottage over 20 years ago, so it was a bit of a nostalgia trip!

We were not disappointed. The cottage has been beautifully refurbished and contrary to previous reviews is now extremely well equipped. It was warm clean and comfortable with big fluffy towels; mirrors with good lighting and power points nearby (yes, it is the little things that make a difference!) sharp knives and instruction and information manuals aplenty. It is ideally situated in the centre of Grasmere and we loved it so much we have already rebooked for next February.

We had a great holiday and would definitely use the cottage again.

Our only comments would be 1 We were slightly surprised there was no salt or pepper and maybe a small welcome pack of eg a bit of coffee/ tea. 2 We found it slightly unusual that there was no information pack at all. Thanks

A very enjoyable stay-everything you would need from a cottage, including perfect location, ample parking & very close to bus stops.

Outside patio cleaner dirty & had to be cleaned upon arrival.

We have stayed at Holly Cottage several times and we love it!

It’s comfy, warm and the location is perfect for us. There was a slight issue with the downstairs shower this time, it was very hot and we couldn’t turn it down. Could do with a couple of new utensils in the kitchen as one large spoon/ladle had a wonky handle and the other had no handle! We moved a chair into the kitchen & moved the table away from the window as that was easier when our friends joined us, rather than carrying food into the other room, but this was just personal preference. Otherwise all was fine and we had a lovely time. Hope to return next year.

Lovely stay in a very comfortable cottage in a superb location.

Sadly travel cot very mucky and musty smelling not suitable for a baby of a few months, thank goodness for Amazon. However this did not distract from a great week with some lovely walks despite the weather. We would visit again.
