Grayrigg Foot Stable

This is by far the best accommodation we've stayed in, and we've been using Sykes for a number of years.

The owners (Christine and David) have thought of everything to ensure you feel like its a home from home. They were both incredibly friendly and even recommended places to visit. The location is stunning and I would definitely recommend this place to anyone considering visiting the Lakes. We will be back!

Very nice cottage on a working farm.

Goods link to the M6 Motorway. Set on The Dales walking path, with many other walking paths closeby. Whilst it's driving distance to Kendal, its set is a quiet, partially isolated spot, which we liked. Plenty of space to park for two cars. The property itself was very nice, quite large and very comfortable. The kitchen is very well equipped with lots of nice touches, like tea, coffee, washing up stuff, cooking oils etc. There are two, two seater sofas in the living room area, and a large fire. There is underfloor heating downstairs. The bedrooms are very comfortable and the two en suites are great. The beds were very comfortable. The gardens are lovely and a stream runs at the back. The fields adjacent have sheep and chickens. We really liked our stay and would highly recommend

This is a fantastic cottage with everything you need for a comfortable enjoyable stay .

The owners are very friendly . The little treats that are left for you are most welcoming . Beds super comfy lashings of hot water everything you need in a home from home 2nd visit and will certainly return .

Absolutely amazing.

The hosts are lovely people, very welcoming and kind. The extras were a lovely touch, even though I didn't indulge in the lovely bottle of wine left for us. The property is outstanding. Warm, spotlessly clean and so relaxing. We didn't want to leave. I can totally see why it gets booked up all year round. It was honestly one of the most comfortable, relaxing stays we've ever had in the Lake District. Just wish I'd booked for longer, but will hopefully return one day. Thank you so much for a little, much needed, taste of paradise. Hope you both have an excellent year, best wishes Victoria and Dave.

Our second time visiting Grayrigg.

We love the cottage and location and the friendly welcome. Just outside of Kendal and easy access to the Lakes. The cottage is beautifully restored by the owner. We have wonderful memories. Highly recommended.

This is an exceptional and warm cottage.

Well maintained, very reasonable price, and a lovely setting. The owners are very welcoming but not intrusive. Our only suggestion would be to have more freezer space.

We had an amazing time at this property.

Even though we only got to meet Chris and her husband briefly as they were going on holiday themselves we thought they were great! They left us in the capable hands of their son Hack and his wife Kelly. The property is furnished to a very high standard and the treats Chris left us were beautiful. Homemade scones m and s toffees, crisps such a lovely touch. Candles were a plenty and the woodburner was so lovely too. Beds were so comfy. My only recommendation is maybe a larger fridge ?? We would definitely return. Thanks again for a great week !!

This is our second visit to Grayrigg Foot Stable and we are already contemplating our third!

David and Christine feel like old friends as our warm welcoming hosts. The cottage is as charming as ever and provides an excellent base for exploring the Lakes and Dales. After a good days walking or sightseeing what better place to return to. We look forward to returning soon.

This cottage is absolutely stunning in every way possible.

On a lovely little farm in the stunning countryside but close enough to get to Kendal, Windermere, Ambleside, Grasmere, we went as far as the coast at Whitehaven... We arrived to a warm welcome and some lovely goodies and a bottle of wine chilling in the fridge... I couldn't recommend this cottage enough, thank you so much to Chris & Dave, your cottage is amazing.

What a gem of place!

! Done to the highest standard. Great location to use as a base for the lakes.. Spotlessly clean and had everything you could possibly need for a fantastic stay. So peaceful and relaxing. We didn't get a chance to use the log burner as it was so warm when we stayed, however we will definitely be back to try it out. Christine and Dave (and family) were so friendly and welcoming and were the perfect hosts. We're already planning our return.

As far as holiday cottages go this is one of the best we have stayed at.

Outstanding cottage, and lovely hosts.

This cottage is the best one we've stayed at so far and we have stayed at alot of cottages over the years. The cottage has every comfort you could ask for, special touches like home made scones with jam and cream on arrival and bottle of wine in the fridge. The cottage is spotlessly clean and warm, with a superb log burner. The owners have catered for every need with special touches like lovely soap and hand lotion, candles also add to the ambiance. I would definitely recommend this cottage and can't wait to return.

The sun shone on most days of our visit.

This made for a magical experience of the lakes. The real gem though was the cottage and the warm and friendly hosts. Our expectations were more than exceeded. The setting of the cottage, backing on to steam in a beautiful valley between Kendal and Grayrigg was heaven on earth. The pleasant surprise for all of us was the cottage is on a working sheep farm. There were four us staying at cottage (all adults) and we all were all enchanted by the experience.

An excellent, comfortable stay at this very well appointed barn conversion with stunning views.

Christine and David made us feel extremely welcome when we arrived and during our stay we saw them working extremely hard on their farm, tending to the animals and their land. We all enjoyed the goodies left for us and they were much appreciated. We were fortunate enough to have a couple of days sunshine and enjoyed sitting on the patio after walking, listening to the stream and watching the chickens & lambs. This property is truly fabulous, set in the perfect location for exploring without having to travel too far. Some of the places we visited included, Sizergh Manor, Levens Hall & Gardens, with a walk through the deer park, a boat trip from Windermere to Ambleside, Kendal Castle ruins and Arnside Knott. We would have no hesitation in recommending this property.

Beautiful cottage in a quiet, peaceful location.

This was our second visit to grayrigg foot stable and it was just as enjoyable as the first. The hosts are lovely people and the property is a credit to them both. We were especially lucky this time as we were able to visit some of the newborn lambs and their mums. We are looking forward to our next stay at this exceptional cottage.

A lovely property with lovely owners.

The cottage is part of a farm that owns a herd of sheep I have never seen before, 'Danish Spotted'. They were Lambing at the time of our visit and the Lambs were really cute black and white in various patterns. The cottage itself is really nice and comfortable with good quality fittings and equipment. The owner left us a very extensive welcome package including home made Scones and Biscuits. A bottle of wine was even there in the fridge. The weather on our visit was really wet and didn't encourage much walking. If we manage to visit again we will hope for a bit of sun. Absolutely fabulous accommodation with such attention to detail and luxury finishing touches.

The Bath House toiletries were amazing along with the home baked scones and biscuits. The hosts are wonderful making the stay memorable. Excellent location and immaculate farm. All together wonderful!

We had a wonderful stay here.

The owners were so welcoming and we were able to see some little lambs. The cottage has been renovated brilliantly and the scones, wine, crisps and Kit Kats were a lovely treat. We would 100% come back to stay. The only thing we found was that the beds were quite firm and the quilt was lumpy but we had a lovely time.

Probably the best cottage we have stayed in and we have stayed in dozens.

Although the weather wasn't great it didn't matter we just enjoyed being in the cottage more. Spacious , warm, comfortable and in a great location. On top of that we feel the owners have taken it to the next level because of the quality furniture/furnishings and extra touches such as luxury toiletries . The cottage was also tastefully decorated for Xmas. The cottage is a credit to the owners. We rarely go back to the same cottage twice but with this one I am sure we will make an exception and we are already looking to book for next year.

A very warm welcome, with a very well stocked array of drinks, grandma’s scones and cream, and more. The overall ambiance puts this cottage in the highest level. Equally the decor is superb, as are all the furnishings, and the bedrooms are beautifully finished with high ceilings and exceptional exposed beams. A wonderful holiday home for visiting the Lake District, made better by your hosts.

Grayrigg Foot Stable - simply beautiful and possibly the best countryside property we’ve stayed in.

What a wonderful property; an exceptional barn conversion furnished to a high standard but felt both luxurious and practical that we felt instantly at home in. Property layout is well thought out and very spacious but also felt warm and cosy; bedrooms have lofty ceilings and comfortable beds. We arrived to some tasty home-made treats, flapjacks, scones with jam and fresh cream as well as free-range eggs from their hens and chilled wine in the fridge. Some well thought out extra touches from beautiful locally produced toiletries (highly recommend) to scented candles and room / pillow sprays for a good nights sleep. Owners, Christine and David are so friendly, accommodating and helpful with advice and tips about the area whether it be walking in the Lakes, eating out or travelling further afield. The cottage is on a working farm, mostly sheep and chickens, with a tranquil stream running along the bottom of the garden. Nestled in a rural valley location, just as we like it, but also in a very convenient location a few miles outside of Kendal but in easy reach for touring all the lakes. We honestly did not want to leave and wished it had been available the following week. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone as we will be looking to return in the future.

Grayrigg Footstable is a beautiful property, which is warm, comfortable and an ideal location for the exploring the Lake District. The hosts are welcoming and happy to chat, or leave you at peace. Christine always leaves a lovely selection of home made sweet treats to welcome you to the property and ensures the lights and fire are on, if you are arriving late. We had a fabulous break and would definitely return.

We had a lovely, comfortable and relaxing week at Grayrigg Foot Stable.

There were little touches of luxury everywhere from toiletries to scented candles. Scones with butter and jam, flapjacks and a chilled bottle of wine greeted us on our arrival. We felt truly welcomed by the lovely owners who were discreet and helpful throughout the week.

Spacious comfortable warm and cosy. Well thought out. Appreciated the wee extras from toiletries creams even a spray to help you sleep to delicious scones and oat cakes as well as eggs from their hens. A delightful couple hosts here. Very friendly and helpful. A special thank you to them for sorting out a garage repair for my car even taking me to the actual garage. Highly recommend this property. Fabulous cottage.

Converted and maintained to the highest standard. Immaculately clean throughout. Beautiful views and an experience of life on a working farm. Hosts run the farm and are on hand to offer advice on places to visit and where to eat. They are so welcoming and provided lovely treats for our arrival. We had a wonderful time and hope to return soon.

Wonderful accommodation, nicer even the photo’s.

Perfect spot, peaceful yet very accessible for visiting other parts of Cumbria. Christine & David were lovely; really appreciated being shown around the lambing barn, during what is such a busy time for them. Booked again to return in the summer and we’re really looking forward to it.

The owner is really friendly and helpful and made us feel right at home. The only thing I would mention is that the listing states that there is a shop and pub nearby, but the nearest shop is in Kendal which is about 5 miles away.

Very warm with the under-floor heating so didn’t need to light log-burner. A great time was had and a great base for visiting the lakes and North Yorkshire dales too. Highly recommend.

the owners have thought of everything, always making sure we were ok and checking if we needed anything. The property itself was absolutely stunning, and with the added feature of the stunning surrounds and grounds it made it the perfect location to explore the Lakes. The kids absolutely loved playing in the grounds and helping to feed the Sheep and Chickens! Already looking at returning!

The accommodation was excellent and in a beautiful location.

The photos on the website are lovely but the cottage is stunning in person and so beautifully appointed. We had a lovely welcome from the owners and a really relaxing stay. We were all more than happy spending time in the cottage, sitting in the garden, listening to the stream in the garden, feeding the chickens and stroking the sheep! Would 100% recommend a stay here.

Much needed holiday and it was quite simply the best

This beautiful cottage is ideally situated on the edge of the Lake District near Kendal.

The interior of Foot Stable cottage was immaculate, light, airy and equipped with everything you need for a break away from home. Everything was finished to a high standard with good sized rooms. Small patio area outside with a view over the countryside including a small stream within the garden. It was a joy to spend time there and the owners were very friendly and helpful. We would definitely recommend this cottage.

Despite having wet weather we had an enjoyable and relaxing time at Grayrigg Foot Stable.

Our hosts were most welcoming, very friendly and easily approachable about what was available both locally and further afield. On arrival there was a bottle of wine, some scones with jam and flap jacks which was a very nice touch and when I asked if eggs were available to buy, laid by the chickens on the farm, I was immediately provided with half a dozen free of charge. They were delicious by the way! The cottage is very well equipped and very comfortable and has a lovely lawned garden with a stream running through it at the back, just the place to relax with a glass of wine and BBQ. All in all a very pleasant stay with the added bonus of being able to watch a working family farm in action on a daily basis.

We could fault nothing or change anything, the cottage was pristine, cosy and everything was thought of. Christine's home-made treats on arrival were a lovely surprise too. We have re-booked for next year already! The surrounding countryside is beautiful and you are close to Kensal for the shops, Windermere and Coniston for the lakes, mountains and many, many walks and the Dales are close by too. If you are reading this in order to make your mind up whether to book - believe me it's a no-brainer, go for it you will not regret it. There are so many positives to this cottage - too many to list here and you'll want to discover all the lovely little details for yourselves! I can't wait to return and experience it all over again :)

We have visited a lot of cottages in the UK over the past years but Grayrigg Foot Stable is the best ever.

We cannot sing it's praises enough for comfort, cleanliness, location and so cosy. Christine and David were really the tops when it comes to owners looking after you. They were exceptional. The property is situated on their working farm surrounded by hills, streams and lots of lovely new born lambs. The location is quiet and private yet only a few minutes drive into Kendal where all the shops, pubs and restaurants of all types are. The Stable itself has been re-built with lots of love, skill and attention. The wood burner is amazing as is all the underfloor heating. There are two bedrooms which both have en-suite facilities. Everything for a peaceful holiday/break are here. After just one day we quickly made our mind up to book another week with Christine and David. We did this because this place is going to be very popular in the future. Special thank you to Christine and David for looking after us and the wonderful greeting pack with wine waiting for us. The TOPS.

There were a few minor issues that we raised with the property owners during and at the end of our stay. We submitted these comments not in any critical way, but as comments that we felt would enhance the cottage and improve it for future guests. We were very pleased to see that our comments were welcomed in the same spirit in which they were offered and we left with the feeling that they would be accepted and acted upon. This was a welcome contrast to other owners of previous cottages that have simply ignored our comments. Overall, we had a very relaxing a happy time there and we would be very happy to stay there again. We would highly recommend this cottage.

Very warm welcome from the owners, several nice touches of welcome gifts, wine, home made scones and flapjacks. Would highly recommend a stay!

What a gem of a cottage, beautifully appointed, super comfortable.

The owners were brilliant too, we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect cottage for two couples. The only thing we can add is that finding the location had both sets of adults driving round in circles because of SatNav, so if you come to a property signposted as an Animal sanctuary/shelter, the cottage is practically across the road from there. There is no wooden sign indicating the cottage’s lane, just a low dark stone wall engraved with the farm’s name, which is very difficult to spot under most circumstances, but especially at night.

We have just returned from the best week at the Grayrigg Foot Stable, it was even better than we hoped.

The cottage is beautiful, clean and cosy. Stunning views from every window. Our girls loved helping Christine and David out with the lambs and collecting the eggs, they both cried when it was time to leave. We visited lots of lovely places and had amazing weather. We will definitely return.

We absolutely loved Grayrigg Foot Stable.

The house was just beautiful and Christine a wonderful host. The house has everyone you could want, it was wonderfully cosy with the underfloor heating plus a lovely wood burner, the kitchen is well equipped and the bathrooms are have great showers plus there is a bath in the main one. It is a short drive to Kendal which has some nice places to go out but we loved being out of the town, it was so relaxing. Christine was really helpful with directions and we arrived to wine and home made scones which was a lovely treat. A lot of attention has been paid to the house and it really shows. We will definitely be visiting again

The cottage itself was excellent, comfortable, well maintained with friendly attentive owners next door.

BUT The directions really need looking at. We arrived in the dark and rain in January. It was not possible to see "the property on your righthand side" because it is well set back from the road. It was also not possible to see "the hen house in the field in front of the property" because of the dark and rain. The name of the property is in weathered stone set in the stone wall and only distinguishable if your headlights catch it. Your Sykes staff were brilliant in trying to help us find the cottage. Thank you.

Christine and David were very welcoming and helpful, the children’s hearts were won when we found homemade chocolate brownies on arrival (and the scones and wine for the adults were gratefully received too!), and the deal was sealed with the children when they got to meet (and feed) the pigs! We couldn’t have asked for a better setting for a family holiday, and Grayrigg Foot Stable will now always be a special place to us as the baby rolled over for the first time here!

The hosts, the cottage and location were all perfect.

Grayrigg Foot Stable is a working farm and our young children were invited to be a small part of it which thrilled them beyond words. The welcome we received superseded expectations and we were delighted with every aspect of the accommodation, which is presented with a lot of care and detail. We have stayed in other UK cottages but this really is one of the very best.

Large, clean modern. Great location, only 3 miles from Kendle. 15=20 minutes from great walking in the Yorkshire Dales, same for Cumbrian Mountains. Coniston, Windermere etc. 40 minutes from Morecambe Bay. Will defiantly stay again.

The host family is very, very friendly.

We felt most welcome and being well looked after. They are very helpful, and caring, and have an eye on little things which make guests feel comfortable and at home. Everything ist neat and clean and fresh and looks like new. It's a perfectly traditional atmosphere in and around the house, one can smell the freshness of the air, the peaceful landscape, the only sounds to be heard are coming from the sheep and hens and the little stream behind the house, which makes the place a little paradise. We enjoyed every single Minute being there.

I can honestly say this is one of the best cottages in the Lake District, which is why I have been there three times so far over the years and I hope to use it again in the future.

It was excellent! One of the best we have stayed in. Spotlessly clean and beautifully finished. Little touches like homemade biscuits, toiletries and farm fresh eggs (laid by the chickens you see from the kitchen window!) make it even more special. The owners are lovely and friendly, making you feel totally at home. We would definitely go back again.
