Briar at the Graythwaite Estate

Pleasant cottage, warm and clean.

Sitting room only suitable for 3 people. The very small sofa I’m afraid doesn’t seat 2 as much as the owners may think it does. We didn’t use the wood burning stove but had we wanted to we couldn’t as no logs left for us and the shop was closed. The kitchen is pleasant and opens on to a patio area. NO TEASPOONS and the rest of the cutlery is like something out of a second hand shop. There is a dishwasher and the cooker was easy to use. The fridge was iced over. Nice welcome bag with bottle of beer, firefighters and biscuits. The double bedroom has an en-suite shower over bath and there is a separate shower room too. Plenty of hot water. The beds are too short and the mattresses weren’t comfortable. The curtains in the double room kept falling off the curtain rail unless you were v careful when opening. There was no ceiling light in one of the singles and actually all the lighting is v poor. The hot tap in the shower room doesn’t close off properly so is running constantly. The swimming pool was nice but I developed earache and sore throat after swimming. You can walk from the cottage but we found it limiting with disappearing footpaths. The tracks are all ruined in places by the four wheel drives. This is our second time in this cottage. It suits our needs but we won’t book again. It doesn’t actually feel as if you are in the Lakes and we preferred our stay in Ambleside.

Bit of a squeeze for four adults but otherwise comfortable. Decor a little bit tired. The cottage was lovely and warm. It was clean but there were some areas lacking attention to detail eg kitchen table needed a good clean. Double bed was comfortable. Fab showers, hot and powerful. Nice welcome pack with tea and coffee and a bottle of beer. The swimming pool is small but a bonus and you can book 45 mins private session. The thing I would say about the pool is that it is key code entry with the code on the front door. Inside there are no locks on toilet door and no door on changing areas??? Outdoor furniture in very poor condition, very weathered. Tired looking and unwelcoming. Unusable really. WiFi was ok but note there is no telephone signal. This was a problem for us as our car broke down whilst we were there and we were unable to phone breakdown services. There is a coin operated telephone box. Shop was hardly open whilst we were there. But you can organise Tesco (or other) delivery. Dog walks straight from back door a positive and the surrounding area is lovely. We would recommend and we have rebooked for next year and will be taking a bag of coins with us ;-)

Fantastic kitchen, and lovely comfy sitting area. Staff onsite very friendly and helpful, will definitely be back! We also asked to stay an extra day due to a change in our dates for returning home and this was quickly accommodated and admin fee waived, many thanks
