“Eel House Cottage is a lovely place to stay – light, airy and spacious, with a really welcoming feel from the moment we arrived.”
We were greeted with a thoughtful welcome hamper containing tea bags, beer, biscuits and ground coffee, which was a fantastic touch. Each bathroom was also stocked with Pure Lakes handwash, which smelt gorgeous and added a bit of luxury to the stay.

We had been slightly concerned about the road after reading previous reviews, but in all honesty we didn’t find it particularly busy or noisy, so that wasn’t an issue for us at all.
There were, however, a few maintenance niggles that stopped this being a full five-star stay. One of the bathroom towels had an obvious hole in it, and when we first used the oven we discovered a baking tray left inside with two cooked sausages on it. The main gate latch was broken, so we had to use rocks to keep the gate shut and secure for our dog. The kitchen scissors were unusable, the outside light wasn’t working (likely just needing a new bulb), there were no spare bags for the food waste caddy (but spare bin liners were provided), and the en-suite sink drained very slowly.
Despite those issues, we had a great time overall and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. With a few small fixes, this would easily be a five-star property.
We certainly wouldn’t hesitate to return.
