A former 17th-century barracks, this cottage has been lovingly furnished and exudes an almost enchanting feel and is perfect for families or groups of friends with plenty of space to keep everyone entertained. You enter a welcoming landing area, pieced together with an armchair, and intriguing décor. Two steps up will take you to a sitting room elevated by low lighting, sofas, and armchairs. Rest in front of the open fire or enjoy dinner at the dining table which is tucked into the layout. The main dining room is located back across the hallway and is layered with floral wallpaper and the large dining table is ideal for the whole family to gather around come evening. A contemporary kitchen is light and refreshing, complemented by a breakfast table so you can relax with your coffee in the morning. On this floor you will also find a second sitting room complete with television and woodburning stove as well as a single and a double room, the latter complete with a dressing table and a walk-in wardrobe. For your convenience, a neatly styled shower room and bathroom complete the formation. From the landing, there are stairs down to the lower ground floor complete with a super king-size double bedroom with a traditional overtone and matching bedside tables. A classic bathroom lies to the side, neighboured by a single bedroom carrying a glimpse of charm. Outside is where you will want to be on a warm day, admiring the spacious garden with its patio and pond and the beautiful vista across the estate. Hardy souls can brave the chilled waters of Windermere for an invigorating swim, or enjoy discounts for mountain bike hire in Grizedale Forest, just a short drive away. For those travelling with children or animal lovers, head south to the South Lakes Safari Zoo or the Lakeland Wildlife Oasis, or perhaps remain on the estate and enjoy the indoor heated swimming pool and gym, situated just 500 metres away. The picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Visitors can wander the wealth of tiny alleyways, thoroughfares, archways and courtyards between the whitewashed 17th century houses. There are many pleasant inns, teashops, guest houses and gift shops in the village, as well as the Beatrix Potter Gallery, which houses an annually changing exhibition of the famous author’s illustrations and stories. The other famous Hawkshead enthusiast, William Wordsworth, attended the Old Grammar School in 1779-87, which still stands today, and you can visit the building where the Lakeland poet developed his love of the form, and even see the desk into which he scratched his name as a small boy! Newby Bridge is ten miles away and offers attractions such as the Aquarium of the Lakes and Windermere Lake Cruises, sailing daily between Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside. With stunning scenery and numerous attractions within easy touring distance, Hawkshead is in an ideal location at any time of the year.
