High Kiln Bank Cottage

We had a lovely time at High Kiln Bank Cottage.

The photos really don't do the cottage justice. It is much nicer than it appears in the pictures. The cottage is spacious, and when we visited as a family of seven (two adults and five children), we had plenty of space. The children loved playing outside. Just below the cottage, after crossing a field, there is a lovely river with stepping stones. They really enjoyed spending time there. It was also nice to get a glimpse of what farming is like in the Lake District. The children enjoyed watching the sheep being moved from one field to another for example. Sitting outside in the orchard is very enjoyable. It offers beautiful views and has a lovely round picnic table with a barbecue. The owners are very friendly and helpful. The cottage is in a wonderfully peaceful and remote location, which we loved. There are many beautiful walks nearby. We would love to return!

High Kiln Bank is a fantastic cottage in a nice peaceful part of the Lakes!

Even with the hot sunny weather we were able to escape the crowds. There was ample space for 6 of us. The pictures don’t do the large kitchen dining area justice! The huge living room space is great. The enclosed garden area just along the driveway has a BBQ and table for 8 people and is a lovely sunny spot. There are loads of local walks, many without having to drive anywhere and lots of beautiful places to swim in the river Duddon. We walked to one local pub (with nearby swimming spots) and stopped for a drink on the way back from Coniston at the other one which also does excellent food! Hosts were very friendly and helpful but absolutely not intrusive. I think we will be back!

Another fantastic stay at High Kiln Bank Cottage.

We have re-fallen in love with the Duddon Valley & definitely fallen in love with this beautiful Cottage. Meals each day at The Newfield Inn were delicious too. A huge thank you to High Kiln Bank's owners & their family for another wonderful holiday & for making our 29th wedding anniversary even more special xx. We would highly recommend a stay at High Kiln Bank Cottage & hope to return soon.

Super hot week at High Kiln Cottage, the parasol in the orchard overlooking the breathtaking views across the Duddon valley was perfect for our breakfasts and dinners outside.

The only noise was the birds in the trees - heaven. Cottage comfortable with everything needed to cook and relax - loved the large airy lounge. The Blacksmiths arms is well worth a visit for dinner, gorgeous food and must book. Hosts on hand to answer our many questions about area and really appreciated the wine and chocs on arrival. Stunning location, enjoyed every minute.

Just back from a weeks holiday at High Kiln Bank cottage which we thoroughly enjoyed.

The cottage was very clean and comfortable with a very welcome bottle of wine and biscuits left by the owners which was much appreciated. This cottage is superb and everything is too a very high standard. There was only two of us and our dog so we were spoilt for space. The lounge is particularly nice and comfortable with plenty of natural light. The cottage is situated in a fairly remote location so it's important to bring your provisions or it's about 4 miles or so back to Broughton along narrow roads. You can walk directly from the cottage to get open access to the fells. Nearby Caw is well worth the effort on a clear day for the views. We explored the Dudden valley and climbed Harter Fell for spectacular views of the valley and over the Scafell range etc. The orchard at the cottage is great for a dog as it's enclosed (we where strict about picking up) and it also has a bench table where you could enjoy the valley views. We've stayed in many cottages over the years in the Lakes and HKB ranks with the very best. The landlady whom we spoke to on the phone and met at departure is very welcoming and friendly. Thank you for the wonderful week we enjoyed (despite a little rain!) and we would have no hesitation in recommending HKB cottage for an perfect Lakeland escape. Merv and Denise, Bournemouth

Our best cottage ever!

! Steeped in history, so peaceful surroundings, with the Fells and new-born lambs. Owners next door, so nice and friendly. We miss it already. Furnishings all cottage charm, with chest of drawers, that we never get!!,even laundry baskets! Wine and biscuits too. Was just lovely.

High Kiln Bank Cottage is a very lovely place to stay in an absolutely breathtaking area!

The view from the orchard garden (which is just a few metres down the drive) overlooking the valley is truly stunning! We had a fantastic week. The owners & their family were brilliant too. We loved it so much at High Kiln Bank Cottage that we booked again while we were there & will be returning in June, we can't wait

We had such a lovely time staying here!

- We had a fabulous welcome, for Easter Day, with Easter eggs and wine and beautiful flowers. It's a fine old house, and the setting is sublime with a great view down the valley. Nearby is a stunning orchard with chairs and tables and an even better view. You can easily walk down to the river, where there's a natural pool for swimming, and little pebble beaches. The local fell walks are also excellent, up Stickle and Caw - and indeed the Coniston Fells, or (a short drive away) Crinkle Crags, Bowfell etc. It's a quiet valley - not a single shop I think! The Seathwaite pub is 10 minutes' drive and very good. All in all, we loved this and would love to return.

We had a wonderful stay at High Kiln Bank.

The cottage was warm and comfortable, located in a pretty spot in this quieter area of the Lake District. We were greeted with a bottle of wine and vases full of freshly picked daffodils. The property owners were both delightful and helpful. There are plenty of walks direct from the cottage and many of the major fells are within a short drive, as are a number of decent pubs and places to eat. We would certainly recommend a holiday in this lovely place.

Came to this beautiful cottage, it was very comfortable and had everything we needed, there where 6 of us staying here on a walking holiday, the rooms where very comfortable and plenty of storage, everything was explained in the booklet, how to use the washer ect, the TV didn't connect to any channels but tbf that wasn't a concern, the roads into and out of the property are very tricky if you aren't used to those type of roads, but at night it was very peaceful, we loved it and would recommend it to anyone

Both the cottage and the Duddon Valley were hidden gems.

My favourite bit of the Lake District. Unspoilt and not overcrowded but with fabulous walks. The cottage was a lovely traditional farm house. Roomy, warm and welcoming. Really recommend High Kiln Bank

The location is superb for anyone wanting peace and tranquility and the cottage was very well equipped. Our dog was delighted with the enclosed orchard area where he could run round and the picnic table was ideal for meals in the sunshine. Several good pubs for food in the area too. We hope to return and would highly recommend.

Beautiful cottage in idyllic and unique location.

Any questions or requests were responded to quickly by the hosts who lived next door and were friendly and helpful. We would love to return.

As a family of 4 and a Dog we have just had an amazing week at this beautiful, comfortable, large but very cosy Cottage.

The Cottage had everything that we needed and was warm throughout making it a great place to stay during our long walks. The scenery is fantastic looking down the valley and over the river and up to the neighboring hills. This is a great place for walking directly from the door step, so many areas to venture out to and various difficulties. Access is via winding country lanes that just add to the adventure and if you are lucky enough to meet anyone, they are very friendly. The Blacksmith is a must for a meal and a visit to the Newfield Inn for Breakfast is just a stroll away. Not one to be missed, a Gem of a find and a tick in the box for a revisit. Thank you for your hospitality and your lovely cottage, a great week well needed.

An absolutely beautiful time.

This cottage is so very lovely and cozy. There was a large basket of wood and kindling waiting for us the first night, as well as beautiful flowers and a bottle of wine. The views are something out of a stunning picture book. And if you really want to relax, you don't even need to drive anywhere as there are wonderful walks right from the front door. I almost couldn't take it in, this area is so breathtaking. It was lovely meet one of the owners who was very friendly and helpful. Can't recommend enough. :)

A very comfortable and large cottage set within a very beautiful location - the view from the garden area is truly magnificent.

The Duddon Valley is less busy than the more tourist areas of the Lake District but not so far to visit those areas should you wish. However there are plenty of local walks where you can walk and not see a soul for hours! The cottage is well equipped with everything you might need and space enough for the extended family or friends to share. We struggle sometimes to find cottages in the Lake District with two loos to help ease the morning rush let alone two full bathrooms and an extra separate loo! And bit of additional info both Tesco and Asda can find the property.

We had an absolutely fabulous holiday in this beautiful cottage and location.

The only thing that wasn’t ideal was that we tried to amend the booking (over 48 hours before) to say that we had our family joining us (6 instead of 2 adults, and 2 infants). But the owners were not notified of this. Thankfully they called on the morning of the day we were arriving, so I was able to confirm the change. They were super gracious and welcoming, despite this being the first they knew of it. Really lovely people! Sykes booking system needs looking at though. We hope to return to Kiln Bank, after such a perfect stay

Fantastic views in a wonderful part of the country. Did some great walks including the old man of Coniston and Dow crag. Cottage is run by lovely people who went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. Very comfortable and spacious. Great to hear the chickens in the morning.

An amazing cottage, beautifully kept and super comfortable.

Fantastic views across the valley, quiet and peaceful. Some winding steep roads to get to the cottage which made for an exciting drive but so worth it! But really once there, you don't really need to travel at all as there are so many fabulous walks nearby.I would highly recommend this property and it's friendly host.

We loved our stay in thie gorgeous cottage.

It's comfortable, clean and very picturesque. It's also in a stunning spot and the views are incredible. The owners couldn't have been more hospitable and kind. We'd highly recommend it to anyone.

This is a magical place - a lovely old cottage with so many opportunities to engage with the environment, climb hills, paddle in rivers, stepping stones, see lakes, hill forts etc.

Cottage was homely, roomy, well equipped and spacious. Perfect for 4 adults and two young children. And a large dog! It took a while to adjust to the lack of wifi and phone coverage and limited TV coverage - be prepared!- we would have preferred to be able to access the garden from the house, but it was still a wonderful space (only a short walk) to go to and sit or play. Pets and children welcome everywhere - we had some lovely lunches in the local pubs.

It is a really nice location with a very spacious and cosy cottage with everything needed to take a break and disconnect from the rest of the world.

Beautiful cottage on sheep farm in the most wonderful location.

So quiet and away from the crowds, with wildlife all around. Cottage was well equipped with everything we needed. Very friendly and helpful owners. A joy to have no phone coverage or internet in the house - so good to unwind and get away from it all. Thank you!

An idyllic location with beautiful views of the valley from the gardens.

Our hosts were very welcoming, plentiful supply of logs, a warm and comfortable cottage. Lovely walks straight from the door and a very peaceful spot. We especially loved the large, mature trees such as the magnificent Copper Beech outside our front door. The picnic benches in the orchard, again great views and being surrounded by birdsong.

This cottage is gorgeous and comfortable and the setting, overlooking the Duddon Valley, is absolutely stunning.

We met Mr Richardson a couple of times, he was chatty and very helpful - could not have picked a better de-stress get away.

Lovely apartment in Dorset overlooking the beach.

Clean and tidy on arrival and useful that they supplied fresh tea towels, sponge, j-cloth, bin bag and washing up liquid as well as a few dishwasher tablets so you don’t have to buy during 7 day stay. Comfortable stay as plenty of space, quick access to west bay facilities all within walking distance so you can leave the car in secure underground car park until end of holiday if you didn’t want to explore the coast further afield. Get sun on balcony from about 2pm and sunset is lovely to watch whilst enjoying bottle of wine on comfy balcony furniture. Plenty to do including paddle boarding from the east beach, rib rides from harbour, river kayaking and rowing boats on River Brit behind the harbour (get to see Broadchurch Detective’s riverside chalet from boat) as well as coastal walks to east over the ‘Broadchurch’ cliffs to Chesil Beach or west over the cliffs to Eype and Golden Cap near Lyme Regis. Incidentally several external areas around the apartment block were used to represent the Broadchurch police station if you enjoyed the TV series. Nearest supermarket is Morrison’s 2 miles away in Bridport but can pick up bits in Spar if don’t want to use the car. Restaurants limited due to Covid with several closed or just doing takeaway but we knew that would be case and apartment had all equipment in kitchen to enable full meals to be prepared so we had best of both worlds as cooking was easy with those lovely sea views.

the cottage and location was fantastic had to go through moutains passess and had the most spectacula sceanery we have ever seen.

the cottage was large and homely very comfortable and the owners were nice and friendly. the only down thing was you did not get phone reception but a short trip up the hill we could phone out so that was ok .felt at home straight away didnt want to come home thankyou .

We have been visiting the Duddon Valley for many years and High kiln Bank cottage is ideally placed to enjoy this part of the lake district.

As for the accommodation; simply excellent. We highly recommend this property and would be happy to return. No Wifi or mobile signal, bliss if you want to get away from the distraction and unwind.

I enjoyed the surroundings as it was my first visit to the Lake District.

The owners' mother lived next door and was so kind, and helpful. She had so much knowledge and experience of this beautiful place. I was going through a difficult time and found the peace that I was looking for. Thank you . My dog Hugo loved it too!

This was a beautiful cottage in a beautiful hidden valley, but the remoteness may come as a surprise to some.

The cottage was not that well equipped in the kitchen, especially as most visitors would have to spend time cooking, as there is not a lot of other eating establishments around. This cottage won't appeal to the casual Lakes visitor, as it is so remote, but that is part of the appeal to us

This is a lovely, spacious farm house full of character and excellent facilities eg hot water, great showers, efficient heating system, log-burning stove.

There is a separate "Orchard" a few yards from the cottage which has seats and table and wonderful views over the Duddon valley:- great place to sit and for children to play. We really appreciated being met by the owner who showed us around the property and clearly explained all of its systems. We would be very happy to stay there again. Suggestions to owner: NOT TO BE PUBLISHED Because the cottage is remote and shopping is some distance away we would suggest: Providing (a) some tablets for the dish washer (b) some washing powder (eg enough to do one wash) and (c) something (eg a dish cloth or pan scourer) to aid in washing the dishes. These would make life there easier. Again because of remoteness, the owner could consider supplying a loaf of bread, some butter/margarene, a bottle of milk and a few tea bags as a welcome pack-just to get started on the arrival day.

A spacious yet cosy cottage, well and truly off the beaten track in the beautiful Duddon Valley.

com and the listing was pretty much the same as Sykes. I felt Sykes was a bit more thorough than booking. Telephone conversations were seamless with Sykes. Payment transactions & any information we needed made the holiday booking a true joy. We will definitely use Sykes again, and would recommend them to anyone.

This cottage is in a delightful location especially if you are keen walkers.

The weather on this occasion was superb and sitting in the orchard area looking over the view of the valley was amazing.
