Thomas Grove House

We absolutely loved our week in the cottage and adjoining house.

We were a group of family and friends and it’s our second visit to the properties. We’ll be back. Just perfect. Thank you Giselle & Robin

Lovely, comfortable property.

Very cosy seating area, especially with the woodburner, and the upstairs shower was especially good. The kitchen is really well equipped, and the view from the dining table was great. There are plenty of places for drying wet clothes and boots.

What a beautiful house.

So old and rustic? lovely features. We fell in love with it straight away. A great location with an amazing view out the front. A local hedgehog comes to the front door and swallows nest there. Would definitely go back to this property.

We loved the cottage, so homely and comfy, we felt right at home.

The garden was lovely with the best views ever! We spent a week there and will definitely be going back!

We have visited the Lakes for over 40 years and stayed in many different properties, Thomas Grove House now tops the list.

The house is beautifully restored and furnished, is well equipped, and the location is spectacular. The owners were quick to respond to any queries and came to our rescue when we realised a mistake with our booking. The garden is a delight in the evening sunshine. I’m sure we’ll be back. Thomas Grove House is an absolute winner!

It has been renovated with such attention to maintaining how it must have been originally but also including modern comforts. A bathroom on the first floor and the ground floor is a real bonus and the view from all the windows at the front is to die for. It is situated in the perfect place for accessing the many incredible walks and Ullswater Lake in particular. We could not have been happier than we have been during our stay last week.

Plenty of rustic charm but with excellent facilities and very warm with the wood burner on. The perfect place for a stay in The Lakes.

We loved staying there, very warm and cosy. Lots of walks on the doorstep, amazing views and beautiful art work on the walls. We hope to come back.

Everything was exactly as described, perfect location for walks from the door, stunning views from the window , beautifully designed, environmentally conscious and comfortable interior.

Really liked the details, hand thrown ceramics, original etchings, lots of great books and even a set of scales which we used to bake scones. We’ll be back, thank you :)

This is a unique house.

I felt like I was staying in a National Trust property. Truly authentic feel, including appropriate furniture - but with tastefully integrated modern facilities, and amazing heating. There are many fantastic walks ready right from the front door, both up into the peaks, and also along the valley. The owners were very helpful. Highly recommended. I will be back.

Beautiful house with stunning views, nice and cosy and warm.

Plenty of hot water great showers and bath. We had a very enjoyable stay. Improvements we would suggest is upgrade cooker which took a very long time to heat up and microwave was a bit temperamental. Shame it’s not a full size dishwasher for the number it sleeps - not mentioned in the listing. A thorough deep clean is required - which we appreciate is difficult with what’ looks like a very popular property. Extra Logs and kindling were requested but did not arrive. It seemed that someone may have been in the property while we were out as the number the keysafe had been left on had been changed and the garden furniture out the front had been moved and some piled up?

Come rain or shine Thomas Grove House never fails to provide us with a beautiful, comfortable and idyllic holiday.

Not only are the views and walking amazing from the door step, the showers are also something we all talk about when we return home. Many thanks for letting us stay. The Smith family.

We absolutely love it here!

A real home from home in an absolutely stunning location where the view changes with the weather! We have had a wonderful week with plenty of walks - up to Angle Tarn, Stony Cove Pike, a lake walk to Silver Crag and the weather was even kind enough for Hellvellyn. My parents did less strenuous walks and really enjoyed Townsend National Trust and the pub, The Queen's Head. We love your cottage and everything about it - including the birds - saw all sorts! The advice on shutters and thermostat worked a treat and we were very comfortable. Hope to be back soon.

I had to clean both toilets when I arrived.

The place felt grubby and grimy and in need of a spring clean. The kitchen bins looked like they’d not been wiped in months. Sockets when you touched them were greasy Hob - we left cleaner than we found it. Throws on settees needed washing and were stained - yes, even the dark brown one. Settee very uncomfortable Fire difficult to keep lit (suggest chimney needs sweeping) All in all very disappointing. The property looked like a once cherished but sadly forgotten, uncared for home. For the cost we expected much better. Won’t be trusting Sykes Cottages again.

This is the third time I’ve stayed in this property.

Once in 2012 and now twice since it’s been renovated. The location is perfect. A short walk or drive to the lakes. Helvellyn is on your doorstep along with other easier fells to climb. The cottage has been sympathetically renovated with just the necessary mod cons yet keeping its rustic charm.. We particularly enjoy the powerful showers and the perfect view from the garden table.

They went out of their way to help us understand the re-booking process due to covid. The property itself is stunning and we had everything we needed. We will book again!

An absolutely perfect cottage in the most perfect spot.

A really wonderful home for the week.

The house has abundant character and the setting is absolutely stunning. Very comfortable beds and excellent showers with plenty of hot water. The kitchen was well equipped and the long table was perfect for family meals with the most beautiful view. We would recommend to anyone looking for some peace and quiet in a beautiful area, with many walking routes straight from the front door.

We’ve had the most amazing stay in this beautiful house.

The views of the surrounding mountains are breathtaking and can be seen from nearly every window inside. We recommend the scenic walks, directly from the house. Love the living room with the fireplace and comfy sofas, so cosy after a long hike. We had everything we need for a comfortable stay. Can’t wait to come back.

Being tucked away in a howling winter gale sounds like a less than desirable outcome for a weekend away, but it was the opposite at Thomas Grove.

I wanted nothing more than to collapse in front of the woodburner, and the world could do as it pleased. I recommend this extraordinary place. The way the house has been restored is incredible. And it has everything you need. Brilliant.
