    “Ashthwaite lodge was probably one of the best lodges we have stayed in.”

    The furnishings and fittings including both bathrooms were very high quality. Definitely 5 star. The super king-size bed was so comfortable. The site is beautifully kept, very quiet, with plenty of walks for our furry friend, along the river Leven and in woodlands.We appreciated the welcome gifts. The area and site has an interesting history, available to read up on Google. Improvement could be made to the signage at the site entrance as age and weather has made it difficult to see and we had ...

Once on the site each individual lodge has a number and name, again each was difficult to see. Ashtwaite was No4. It was remote for accessing provisions.The nearest place we found for any shopping was Ulverston, 7 miles away. Great local shops as well as a small Co-op and Tesco. Overall it was a lovely restful 4 days, just wish it hadn't rained so much.

Haverthwaite is a small village and civil parish in the Furness region of Cumbria. It is within the Lake District National Park and is located six miles east of Ulverston, near the southern end of Windermere. The village gets part of its name from the Old Norse word thwaite which usually refers to a clearing or settlement in the forest. Close to the village is Newby Bridge which is at the southern tip of Lake Windermere which takes its name from the five arched stone bridge built in 1651 over the River Leven. The famous Furness Railway, one of Britain's oldest working standard gauge steam railways, runs between Haverthwaite and Newby Bridge. Visit the Lakeside Hotels and enjoy magnificent views across Windermere and the surrounding fells, or enjoy the Aquarium of the Lakes, where the naturally themed habitats, bring the history of the Lakes vividly to life.
