    “We had a brilliant week at Hazel Cottage, the views are stunning, the cottage was warm, clean, well equipped and spacious.”

    We loved the hot tub over looking the hills. The owners responded straight away to any queries, they left us a generous hamper & fizz which was really appreciated. We also spent one day exploring a local walk from the cottage on public footpaths and saw some incredible views. Would highly recommend this accommodation, the best we’ve stayed in at the Lakes. We hope to come back again!

The property

A superb link-detached stone cottage with private hot tub on a large private wrap-around patio courtyard garden with lawn and stunning views.

In the living area there are two leather settees and a dining area with a large window so you can enjoy the views whilst dining.

There is underfloor heating throughout the ground floor and a woodburner in the sitting room.

This room also has attractive arched windows and bespoke shutters.

Step out from the living area through French doors onto the large patio and enjoy the views!

On the first floor there are two bedrooms all with en-suite facilities, beams and one of the bedrooms has a circular window with vaulted ceiling and direct long-reaching views.

This exceptional cottage with its beautiful furnishing and character features can be enjoyed all-year-round making it a perfect place to holiday in any season.

The Courtyard - Bigland Hall Estate

Backbarrow 1.5 miles. Ideally located on a private estate in the Lake District National Park these superb historic, luxury stone properties have been converted from 17th century courtyard buildings on the Bigland Hall Estate, adjacent to 350 acres of ancient woodland. Set in an elevated position which provides stunning long-reaching views across the hills, estuary and valley all properties are individual in layout, whilst being close to the villages of Backbarrow, Newby Bridge and Cartmel. The cottages also offer easy access to Lake Windermere, Coniston Water and the Leven Estuary. With character features of beams, feature walls and flooring, all cottages have underfloor heating on the ground floor with woodburning stoves and bespoke high-quality kitchens, again all with a unique design to each property. The bedrooms all have luxury en-suite bathrooms and TVs, all styled with beautiful soft furnishing and unique furniture to each room. These outstanding properties mix modern amenities whilst every effort has also been made with stunning craftmanship to keep the historic integrity of the buildings. A short drive brings you to Newby Bridge where you can embark on the steamers that will take you to Bowness-on-Windermere and Ambleside, where you can enjoy the lakeside vista and stunning scenery, or you can also hop on the steam train that departs to Haverthwaite. Equally you can enjoy a waterside meal or beverage at a choice of good quality hotels and simply relax, watch the birds and lake activities. Younger party members will enjoy Beatrice Potter or the lakeside Aquarium. Just a short walk away from your cottage is Bigland Equestrian centre for guests who would like to ride. The small village of Backbarrow sits by the banks of the River Leven and the southern tip of Lake Windermere. The famous Haverthwaite Steam Railway runs close by the village between Haverthwaite and Lakeside. Enjoy magnificent views across Windermere and the surrounding fells, or visit the Aquarium of the Lakes, where the naturally themed habitats bring the history of the Lakes vividly to life.
