Latterbarrow Cottage is a two-bedroom property set on the ground floor of a converted barn within a picturesque setting and part of the Bracken Fell development which comprises six converted cottages. It's ideal for holidaymakers looking to get out and about to enjoy the beauty of this area by walking or cycling.
The cottage is the perfect combination of outside character and inside luxury, with excellent views over Outgate hamlet and Latterbarrow Fell. It has a comfortable lounge/dining area perfect for relaxing in front of the TV after a long day exploring the surrounding countryside. Guests can also cook something delicious in the well-equipped kitchen. Whatever takes your fancy, this cottage has everything needed. The two bedrooms are bright and luxurious and are relaxing havens at the end of a day's travel. Outside there is a private patio area set within communal gardens and it's a lovely spot to sit and take in the peace and tranquility that this location brings, with classic Lake District stone walls providing the charm of this part of the world. Just a short walk away is a village inn serving the best of the real ales that the area has to offer as well as delicious home-cooked food.
There are walking routes accessible right from the door of the cottage, with Tarn Hows, Latterbarrow and Blelham Hows all easily accessible. It's just a mile to the pretty town of Hawkshead, with its pubs and unique shops as well as the inspiration for Beatrix Potter's books - Hill Top. Also within five miles is the delightful area of Langdale, while Ambleside, on the edge of Lake Windermere is just a ten minute drive away, offering a range of amenities and activities.

Had a lovely week at Latterbarrow.
Good location . . Facilities good , Egyptian cotton bedding particularly nice , sofas tired and could do with replacing as they are looking a bit shabby but other than that well equipped and comfortable . Nice to be able to walk from the door particularly enjoyed the gentle walk to Low Wray , ferry to Ambleside and back . Also handy for bus routes so able to leave the car behind for a couple of days .
My friend and I stayed at Latterbarrow for a hiking holiday, and it was an absolutely fantastic location for this.
We only used the car twice, and that was to accommodate Wainwright's that we wanted to do, rather than really needing the car. The Outgate Inn at the bottom of the hill could not have been more perfect after a day's hiking - great food, beer and hospitality. Latterbarrow cottage itself served our needs. Just big enough for two occasional hiking buddies - a sofa each in the lounge, so we had some breathing space. The only critique would be: Of course, we realise that it is self-catering, but for the price, I really think handsoap in the bathroom isn't a big ask and a pint of milk in the fridge maybe? After a 4-5 journey, a cuppa would have been nice before we had to visit the Coop in Hawkshead. Loo seat and loo roll holder are both a bit loose. No biggie, just mentioning it. Although the people in the apartment weren't really noisy, the footsteps, loo flushing etc are very audible when you're trying to sleep. Lastly, and again, not a huge problem, but the view from the front of Latterbarrow is somewhat obscured by cars. We could have parked up near the gate, but I wasn't going to ask the same of the other guests. As said, a lovely stay. Loads of fluffy towels and the bedding was lovely. Have a walk up Latterbarrow itself - kind of a must when it's right there outside the window :)
Really enjoyed our stay in this lovely cottage, it had all the facilities we required and was spotlessly clean when we arrived.
We were able to walk to Wray castle and Hawkshead and were within easy reach of Grizedale, Hill top and Coniston. The setting was very peaceful and we even heard owls from the house on our final night! The washing machine was an added bonus, especially when travelling with a 7 month old! Only criticism was there was no recycling facilities on site, but it was easy to use those in Ambleside instead. Thank you!
