Rowan Cottage

A beautiful cottage in idyllic surroundings.

The cottage was well equipped and very comfortable. It is within walking distance of a pub/restaurant and only 1.4 miles from the ferry across to Bowness/Windermere. The cottage also has a charming and very quiet rear garden. Beware though if you have a large car. The road the cottage is on is very narrow, as is the access to the parking at the rear of the cottage.

We loved our time at Rowan cottage.

It's position is perfect with several footpaths within metres of the door. It was lovely, warm and cosy. We realise it is for sale, and hope very much that it will be available to rent in the future. Thank you.

Well appointed cottage with everything we needed, the beds were really comfortable.

Did think the lounge carpet could be replaced. I used the top floor twin room, very comfortable with a lovely view over the beautifully well kept churchyard.

Good morning, we recently stayed at Rowan Cottage Booking Ref: L4LJ2-24-EN.

Our autistic son thinks he may have left his IPod at the cottage when we were packing to leave. It was all a bit hectic. Is there anyway to check or ask the very nice cleaning lady if she has found it please. We would be very grateful as it’s causing him some distress. It’s white and gold. We will of course pay for all packing and postal costs. Any help we would be so grateful. Thank you

Had the most perfect weeks stay at Rowan cottage.

The cottage is well equipped and comfortable and is set in beautiful surroundings. It’s the ideal base to explore the lakes. I was pleasantly surprised with the cottage as the photos don’t do it justice. I’d definitely stay again and would recommend it. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

We loved rowan cottage.

A great location with some great walks and pubs within a 5 and 15 min walk. The cottage was well equipped and cosy but please provide a welcome pack! I’d seen from reviews that there was “nothing provided” but not even having soap in the loos and 1 loo roll in each bathroom for a family of 5 really took the sheen off. Other cottages have provided a small hand wash, tea bags and a pint of milk and loaf… or just left stuff like this that other holidayers had left. Even if it was just washing up liquid or detergent. I would defo recommend anyone staying to do a Tesco delivery scheduled for the day of arrival.. this was a godsend. Otherwise would recommend… REALLY comfy beds!!

!! Such a Beautiful Cottage with a stunning garden,location is perfect,clean,tidy so well equipped with everything you could need. Just a Beautiful shirt Stroll to the Tower Bank Arms which we did on many occasions Great Food!!! Will 100% stay here again and again. Thankyou for a great Holiday

We have stayed at rowan cottage quite a few times, love the location .

Very comfortable, kettle was a bit temperamental but we managed.Beds very comfortable, will be back next year.

A great surprise was found at Rowan Cottage, the booking websites don't do the property justice.

Very comfortable, extremely well equipped quality kitchen utensils. Quality beds & bedding. Warm & cosy, although unseasonably warm for early November, we hardly needed the heating on. Our dogs settled almost immediately. Great walks from the doorstep. Friendly locals. Our only negatives were steep narrow stairs which may be an issue for some. Some of the notices we found and the details in the information book were a little confusing/conflicting which would benefit from some updating with clearer details. Would highly recommend and will return sometime.

We had a lovely week at Rowan Cottage.

The bedrooms were immaculate and beautifully decorated. The bathrooms were very clean, shower over the bath not fantastic but not bad either. When we first went upstairs and opened the door to the main bedroom with ensuite it was like walking into a very nice hotel room. Downstairs was very comfortable and clean, but not all new which with 2 dogs I really do prefer as you aren't constantly worrying all the time. The sofas were lovely to sit on and plenty of room for 4 of us and the 2 dogs. The small porch from the garden gave a good area for drying the dogs feet and a door between the kitchen and living room was great, also a door from the living room to upstairs. So easy to stop dogs going were you didn't want them too. I keep going on about the ease with the dogs, but for us it makes a big difference to how much you can relax when in someone else's property. The garden was lovely, again great for the dogs, secure although a very small dog may get under the gate. Our smallest is a jack russell and he couldn't get out and he really tried when he saw a rabbit run under the fence! Footpaths opposite the cottage so plenty of walking. The Cuckoo Brow Inn in Far Sawey was very welcoming, we ate there a couple of times, if you like big portions you won't be disappointed. Dogs welcome and just a few minutes walk. It wasn't really the weather for sitting in the garden but I am sure it is beautiful in the summer. Well kitted out in the kitchen so everything you need if wanting to cook properly, even down to a set of kitchen scales. We had seen someone elses review saying no milk so had taken some with us, which there wasn't so that was helpful. At first slightly disappointed to find no welcome items at all, it is a nice touch when you get in after a long drive (and a breakdown) to find milk and biscuits, just that little something when you arrive. There was a cleaning kit, with sponge, couple of bin bags and dishwashing tables which was nice, but no washing up liquid (we had taken dishwasher tablets, but not the washing up liquid!). So I would definitely say you need to take everything you need with you, tea/coffee etc, shops are a good drive away. Also no logs at all for the wood burner, but the cottage was so warm we didn't need to light it anyway. The heating is excellent in the cottage, we kept turning the radiators off as getting too warm. After we had been there a couple of days, we decided that the owners have gone to so much trouble to make sure that the practical and comfort side of the cottage is top rate, that we would much rather have that, than a welcome gift on the table but other areas lacking which is often the case. We would definitely stay here again.

We had a really lovely time in Rowan Cottage such a comfy cosy home, we felt at home the moment we walked through the door, everything needed for our stay was provided, the only thing we would have liked was a pint of milk in the fridge to make a cup of tea on arrival after a 263 mile journey, on our next stay we will make sure we will stop to pick some up as we didn't appreciate the distance to the nearest shop.

The neighbours were also very friendly.

We had a wonderful stay in Rowan Cottage.

We stayed here for 7 nights in August and found the location perfect. The cottage was immaculately clean and very comfortable. It had everything we could possibly need. We enjoyed beautiful meals in the village pub and loved our long walks to the ferry crossing. We enjoyed barbecues with beautiful views from the back garden. Perfect, relaxing holiday in a beautiful cottage !! Highly recommend it!!

Loved the cottage- we've stayed there about six times, and this year we finally managed to book it for two weeks.

This is a very comfortable property which is ideally placed to explore all around this part of the Lakes.

It is a rural location, very quiet, with lovely walks from the door with the National Trust's Hill Top within easy walking distance. There is also a pub just a few minutes walk away if you want a meal out. It is comfortable, clean and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We will definitely book again. Thank you.

Lovely cottage, so comfortable, clean and it has everything you would need to make your holiday more enjoyable, so much that we booked to go back next before we left this week.

Fabulous, peaceful location.

Went to a Carol concert at the lovely church opposite on Christmas Eve. A number of lovely walks from the front door. Got the ferry over to Bowness a couple of times. Haweshead just under 3 miles away and Ambleside approx 7 miles. Both easily accessible. Beds were lovely and comfortable. There were two pubs within walking distance. We had a wonderful meal at Tower Bank Arms. The only issue we had was a temperamental oven. Couldn’t set the timer for the Christmas dinner. But would defiantly return!

Cannot think of anything negative about Rowan Cottage

The cottage was very pretty, warm, spacious & well equiped with everything we needed.

The beds were very comfortable & it was a brilliant location. We hope the cleaners were happy with our cleaning & tidying when we left. I'm very sorry but I accidentally broke a pyrex dish.We would love to come again as would the dogs!

Rowan Cottage had everything we needed for our holiday it was home from home.

Lovely quiet location near to beautiful walks. This was our second stay at Rowan Cottage and we hope to visit again.

Cosy, comfortable, clean cottage.

Very well equipped with everything you could need. Lovely location, quiet and peaceful, but within easy driving distance of bigger villages and towns. Beautiful walks and lakes all around.

Love this cottage,our second stay,very comfortable.

Couldn't find any cleaning liquids for when we left, always like to clean bath, showers etc. Would have bought some if we'd known.We are back again in September,our grandchildren want to live there so must be a great house.

Enjoyed a lovely peaceful stay at this very pretty comfortable cottage - immediate views from the back garden and at the front opposite the stunning church and the surrounding area are all incredibly picturesque.

Enclosed garden was fabulous for my young border collie - many striking birds at the garden bird feeders including golden finches and nuthatch which were a real treat . Only issue was in finding the cottage in the first place as the lane to turn down is very narrow and not signposted, not do the cottage directions make this clear - took several attempts back and forth the village to finally track it down. Would definitely book again.

Location of the cottage - totally peaceful and stunning.

Loved the views from the windows. Back garden was great - accessible and dog friendly. Good kitchen. Comfortable beds. This is an old cottage - and has quirks - but all part of the appeal.

One curious omission - no curtains on main window in back bedroom

Had a lovely holiday in the Lakes staying in Rowan Cottage.

Very comfortable and well equipped. Great neighbours who have us great local information. It would have been useful to know beforehand how difficult it is to book local restaurants, we were really lucky to get a cancellation at the Cuckoo Brow but you normally have to book 1-2 weeks in advance and this is the same with most local pubs/restaurants. Had a lovely stay though and would highly recommend Rowan cottage
