“Gorgeous property in a quiet street.”

We visited during school holidays so can’t comment on any noise that may be heard from the two small schools in very close proximity, but might be worth noting in term time. We had several walks from the door, a mile or so and your in the hills. Clean and very well maintained throughout. My only gripe if I had to have one was that there were no blinds in the kitchen or lounge, which left little privacy from the house across the street. That said, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Chestnuts ...

Dear Lucy Thank you for your constructive feedback and lovely comments . For clarity, The blinds for the lounge have been on order since early February, unfortunately a misaligned decimal point on behalf of the fitter has meant that we are having to wait for a replacement. This will be fitted as soon as it arrives. I would also like to respond to your concern with regards to the school on the road. We have had the cottage for over 4 years now and no guest has ever made comment about noise issues. We have stayed ourselves during school terms and have never experienced any issues with noise. Furthermore I am also aware that the school is potentially looking to close due to such low numbers. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay as we do endeavour to ensure that Chestnuts cottage is a beautiful and well maintained doggy friendly holiday home. “Honestly one of the best holiday accommodation we have ever stayed.”

It’s a home from home. Upon entering you are greeted with a fresh clean smell which felt like home! Everything was to a high standard without a doubt. Kitchen is well equipped with a hand whisk, slow cooker, pint glasses & gin glasses!! The boot room is excellent & we used the garage door which lead to the boot room as our main entrance/exit throughout our stay. Worked perfected for our dog too as we could wash paws & dry her off before entering the house. In the welcome folder it mentions the garage is going to be transformed into a games room which would be an added bonus for sure! A couple a minor things which is based on us a family; there’s no blind or curtains in the kitchen so with it being winter nights we felt looked in at whilst cooking & eating. No ladle or weighing scales / measuring cups (but had a hand whisk & cake tins). No blind or curtains across the lounge window but had a curtain over the doors - felt looked in at from neighbouring homes. The bunk bed mattresses were very uncomfortable for our 10 year old (bottom) & 6 year old (top). Almost like the mattresses aren’t thick enough. Could do with a very good topper at least. King size duvet cover on a double duvet causing duvet to not sit right in the cover so caused issues in the night for our eldest daughter. Pillows were awful in every room so uncomfortable & no longer plump!

“Chestnuts Cottage was comfortable, clean and well equipt.”

The location was fabulous for exploring Windermere and surrounding areas. We have stayed in many cottages and this is the first one where we weren’t supplied with at the very least a bottle of milk on arrival. I didn’t realise how much we appreciated this, as after a 4 hour drive we had to immediately go back out and find a shop to make a drink. We were also rationed to 2 dishwasher tablets for the whole week. Also, I wouldn’t describe the cottage as “dog friendly”. As there is only a very small piece of grass on the front, the owners expect you to walk down to the village green (a short walk down the road) for your dog to do its business. Late at night, this is not practical in your pajamas and also we found there to be young lads congregating down there in the dark, so did not feel safe doing this. However, all that aside, the cottage is beautiful and clean. It’s a short walk into Bowness or into Windermere town centre, and my sons loved the lovely fireplace in the upstairs living room to warm up to.

Dear Samantha Thank you for your comments. Its important to share that we have had comments in the past about milk and the types of non dairy that people now consume. We made the decision not to provide milk products as very often they were left and not used. With regards to the Cottage being doggy friendly, this description means that dogs are allowed to stay in our cottage. The garden area is clearly shown on the pictures on our website. “Great property and location, very clean , with plenty of kitchen equipment etc.”

Good quality equipment throughout. The only negative was a maintenance issue with Sykes. A bathroom door was sticking when we arrived which should have been noticed and fixed before our arrival. This worsened resulting in someone being locked in the en-suite on a Sunday morning. This was resolved by maintenance attending and releasing the lock, which was broken and needed replacing. They attended very quickly which was great but did not return the next day as arranged (or any other day) to fit a replacement.

“Beautiful cottage in an excellent location.”

Convenient for both Windermere, Bowness and the rest of the Lake District Area. There was one drawback with our stay. The previous visitors had not put out the waste bin for collection on the Thursday. The bin was full to the top with additional waste to the side. Having contacted the management company we were instructed to put out the bin and additional waste on the Monday for collection. This was not collected as informed until the due collection on the Thursday. Despite the above, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely property.

“First impression was there were so many five star features - spacious kitchen diner, handy boot room, amazing master bedroom with walk in wardrobe and ensuite, nice outdoor space, good location.”

However there were lots of tiny issues that brought it down a couple of stars but could so easily be solved. There was a terrible strong odour from the master ensuite that we could not get rid of despite having the window open and using two diffusers. It was awful. The general cleaning could have been better. More a light touch than thorough to say there were 6 hrs between checking out and our arrival time. There were stains on some of the bedding and towels which is a big no no. Overall the property is lovely, and we would return, but it could be amazing and so easily a 5 star property. On arrival we tried to make contact with Sykes as there were no towels in the master bedroom. I tried both contact numbers within the email but they both rang out. Admittedly it was after 6, however there was no option to leave a voicemail. Had there been a more serious issue we wouldn’t have been able to make contact. Finally, it would be useful for the guests if the welcome folder was up to date.

“Great place to stay and location.”

Had everything we needed to make meals and to feel at home. The only small things was that tumble dryer never worked unless we where using it wrong. Also some cobwebs around the house. Only having the one green bin we filt up quickly. We had to leave all the boxes of empty bottles in the boot room. Which is fine if your happy to recycle it for us.

However the vacuum was full and blocked. So dog hair’s everywhere and on furnishings. We had to empty this and vacuum throughout. In total we spent two hours of our first evening cleaning which really takes the shine off what is a fabulous property. That said, we would stay again.

The furniture and features are id the highest quality and the little touches like pictures etc are tasteful and well done. The property is in a beautiful quite location and it us easy to find, I would highly recommend this property to anyone wanting a luxury break away it's so nice we have booked again for next christmas.

“It would be great to have some foot stools to put your feet up on in the living room as after long days of hiking with 4 adults and 2 children ned to put legs up.”

The cottage is in a fantastic location and it’s clean and has all the facilities you need for a weeks stay If any of the food staples could be there it would be good like salt, vinigar it would be beneficial I couldn’t find dog bowls so bought some One for Sykes not the cottage a book again return incentive would be good Thanks

Thank you for your comment, the TV does buffer sometimes as its a low signal area and terrestrial channels can be impacted by the weather. It is very comfortable, clean and warm and has everything you need for a great holiday. It is beautifully decorated with some lovely touches and is well situated within easy walking distance of both Windermere and Bowness. There is room for parking two cars and the owners are very helpful. Even the neighbours were very helpful when we got snowed in! We fully recommend this cottage and intend to return again

“We had a wonderful stay at the cottage.”

It had everything you would need with lots of space. It was much bigger than we thought from the photos! The walk in wardrobe was very good and it was always very warm which was good as it was November! It was well placed between Windermere town and Bowness so you could walk to each place and leave the car behind. We would definitely book again!

Both issues sorted with good communication with the owner and lakelovers company. Comfortable house, modern furniture and well stocked kitchen. 3 ensuite bedrooms comfortable for 4 adults and children (bunk beds in one room). Good location 5 mins walk to Windermere village. A bit further to Bowness and the lake. Nice large balcony area , only had chance to sit outside a couple of times due to typical lake district weather, but in the summer this would be a great area to use for meals outside. Once early issues were sorted a good location, good house and good holiday and above all problems sorted quickly

“It’s a shame your not as quick to respond to complaints as you are to sending emails!”

You were contacted in the evening by on the day of arrival to Complain about the cleanliness of the property, towels were still wet to touch, cobwebs and thick dust on most items within the property! You could ask why and how we found this well we dropped something on the floor in the double room and we found someone’s sock whom I can presume was the previous customer including rubbish under the bed! We supplied you with the full details and images of most of what we found and to date we have had no response even though you provided a reference number! Please check the email sent a week ago for pictures! What I would also add is the smell that comes from the bathroom in the ground floor en suite was consuming that even leaving the light and extractor on and window open was overwhelming at best!

“Have stayed in many self catering cottages in the Lake district but have often been disappointed, this was not the case on this occasion, everything was as expected and true to description and photographs.”

Lovely, clean and comfortable accommodation only slight and very slight negative feedback would be that the sheet on the bed downstairs kept coming off, maybe could be changed to a fitted, think size of room could accommodate a larger bed too. We will definitely be returning

It had all the facilities that were required for our party of 5 people and our little dog to celebrate my wife's 50th birthday. I would definitely recommend this to family and friends. The maintenance people were extremely efficient (responded within 2hrs) when the already loose front door handle fell off after us only being there 2 days. Looking forward to going back next year. “So myself and our 2 friends stayed at this lovely little cottage in Windermere.”

Our first impressions were quite awe inspiring...from when we left the road and drove into the drive way of the property, and saw the immense flint lined structure in front of us. We truly felt that we had arrived at our home from home from the first look. Time and dedication to the local landscape had clearly been taken from the front door step to the rustic garage doors, and the modernised double glazing windows that just blended in. If first opinions were not enough, we then entered the house, and was like kids in a sweetshop searching for what rooms we were going to set roost in for the week...all 3 of the rooms are spacious doubles, with the added benefit of a single bunk bed allowing to sleep up to 7 guests comfortably. Each of the rooms had their own en-Suite shower rooms, all refurbished to a high quality and standard. On top of this, there was a digital TV in each room, enough to allow every guest the freedom to watch what they preferred. By far the 2 most impressive rooms were the lounge, and the kitchen. The lounge was adorned with comfortable sofas, enough for families to snuggle up to, elegant lighting to allow the mood setting for any TV show, a quality soundbar on the TV which adds to the viewing pleasure, and good wifi that extended throughout the house.- The patio doors extended the size of the room onto the terrace area, enough space for a BBQ or a brunch setting in the warmer months. In my opinion, the room of the house is the kitchen...it is plenty big enough with a huge dining table, and all of the amenities you could need....and yes of course, another TV screen to watch the news while having breakfast. We used this room the most as we played our games on the table, the seating was so comfortable, and even in the snowy month of March, it was warm enough and cosy. The garage forms part of a wet access to the house, and has a boot change area leading to the kitchen. A great addition to reduce flow of muddy boots and paw prints through the house. The location of the house is circa. 8 mins walk to Windermere, and 14mins walk to Bowness...both little towns have beautiful shops and cafes, enough to keep everyone happy. My rating of this cottage is 5 stars...I cannot mark down for anything at all...it was clean, inviting and comfortable. Thanks so much to the hosts for having made this cottage available. It is clearly something they are very proud of, and I would definitely go back. Cannot recommend enough.

The property has clearly benefited from an excellent architect/builder who has cleverly made it an attractive, well-spaced house with lovely touches and furnishing throughout. The welcome pack goodies were great. Induction cooking, simple to use WiFi, SMART TV as well as the heating/water systems were all very efficient. The property is in a great location for the Lakes to experience walking, cruising the Lake, busing and driving.

It is a great property in a great location for visiting Windermere and the lake district. The facilities at Chestnuts Cottage are great, we loved having an en suite in all bedrooms and the kitchen was fab! Unfortinately when we arrived the keys were not in the key safe as stated they would be so we had to get all the kids back in the car and drive to an office to collect the keys which wasn't a great start to the holiday after a long drive there. There was no apology for this or offer to bring the keys to us. Overall our stay was great and we would return in the future :)

“In short...”

we loved it. Husband and I and 2 children 17 and 13 and our new puppy. All decided it was the best equipped, nicest place we have stayed in. We loved the outside patio from the living room. Ensuites for every room was a luxury for the kids. Fluffy towels. It was just gorgeous. Boot room/dog feeding room was so useful too.
