Highfield Cottage stands proudly in Windermere, a three-storey retreat nestled in the heart of the Lake District National Park. Designed for families and friends, this pet-friendly haven offers Smart TVs in every bedroom, a woodburning stove for fireside evenings, and easy access to the lake and local amenities.

Arriving at the roadside, guests are met with a traditional stone exterior and a tidy front garden of gravel and lawn—an inviting prelude to the comfort within. Step into the hallway, where wooden floors and hanging space provide a practical welcome after a day on the fells.

The sitting room draws you in with its generous seating and warm firelight. A bay window filters in natural light, while the Smart TV offers quiet entertainment. The dining room, with its window seat and soft glow from the electric fire, is perfect for shared meals, games, and relaxed conversation. Books and games line the shelves, adding a personal touch to the space.

In the kitchen, everything is arranged for ease—whether you're preparing breakfast or a celebratory supper, the layout encourages connection and flow. A cloakroom with basin and WC completes the ground floor.

Upstairs, the bedrooms span two levels. The second-floor king-size room features a blue headboard, panelled wall, and a desk for quiet moments, with views that stretch across rooftops and hills. The double room offers a calm retreat, while the twin provides storage and comfort for younger guests or friends.

The bathroom, also on the top floor, invites you to unwind with a bath or refreshing shower after a day of discovery.

Outdoors, the rear patio is a private spot for morning coffees or evening drinks under the stars. The front garden offers another peaceful perch to watch the village life unfold.

With Windermere’s vibrant centre just a short walk away, and nearby attractions like Brockhole and Orrest Head within easy reach, Highfield Cottage offers a memorable base for exploring the Lakes.

Highfield Cottage is a nicely appointed house.

The downstairs is particularly good. The house was clean and tidy and well cared for. If I had one observation, it would be that the stairs from floor 1 to 2 are steep and might be challenging for some. We felt we had to take extra care when coming down.

Nice accommodation.

Suited us as a family quite well. Very helpful to have the park so nearby with kids and a dog. Could have been slightly on the cleaner side (cobwebs, hair in bathroom, bit dusty), but overall fine. Would also be very useful to have a washing machine (may be the only reason we may not return). Very well equipped kitchen, just with limited storage for food (just something to bear in mind when good shopping), but good size fridge and freezer.

It was a great location and had all the facilities we needed.

There we 6 adults staying and 2 dogs and it worked perfectly. My only recommendation would be to have some recycling bins available. I would definitely stay again.

The accommodation was good.

The beds were comfortable and the living room was well appointed. The addition of a car parking space was very welcome. The location is good and quiet. The property was missing a washing machine which is a big problem in the Lake District with the mud and rain! The upstairs was very dusty in places (blinds, headboard) and smelled a little of damp. Although we recognise the door between the downstairs and stairs needs to be a fire door the mechanism was very heavy and difficult to open. Personally we found the amount of TVs quite oppressive but understand not everyone would agree. We could not get any hot water in the bathroom. The bath was quite slippery. We also found dog poo in the yard. The instruction leaflet could be updated and more informative. We are likely to stay elsewhere next time as we have not had those issues above in various other properties around the lakes over the years . Thanks.

Please be assured that your comments have been taken on board. In particular, we’ve arranged for a review of the upstairs areas to ensure cleaning standards are consistently maintained and to address the points you raised regarding dust and the odour. The outdoor space will also be checked more thoroughly between stays. With regard to the property features, the number of TVs and washing machine are in line with the property listing, though we appreciate that a washing machine can be particularly useful given the Lake District setting, and we will take this into consideration for the future. Thank you as well for highlighting the bath concern following your feedback, a non-slip bath mat has now been provided for guests who wish to use it. We’re sorry to hear about the issue with hot water. As this wasn’t raised during your stay, we weren’t able to assist at the time; however, we would like to reassure you that the system is working. As the bathroom is located some distance from the boiler, it can take a little time for the hot water to come through initially. We also appreciate your comments regarding the fire door and the instruction manual. We will review both to see where improvements can be made to enhance ease of use and provide clearer guidance for future guests.
