“Mattress is terrible - 100% worn out, worse we’ve ever slept on, the edges collapse to nothing if you try to sit on it.”

Huge stain on couch when we arrived - we turned the seating cushion over. Had to hunt around for the Wi-Fi code - found a scrap of paper poi toning to a binder! What’s that all about? Holes in towels! Urine stain on toilet seat. The oven was filthy - tin foil on baking trays in oven as they’re rank! Main rug in teeny weeny lounge - dirty, we cleaned it! Masses of kitchen utensils and pans all thrown in draws, sloppy. Pictures of property so deceptive. Bedroom ...

Masses of kitchen utensils and pans all thrown in draws, sloppy. Pictures of property so deceptive. Bedroom describes as opulent - tiny, no space to walk around, cramped. Just the smallest property. Dead bugs, wasps, moths in every room - when was this last used? Shower floor blocked up - I had to clean out the drain gauze (full of hair)… We bleached the house when we left, - it’s cleaner than when we moved in. Positives - Peaceful location.

The property

Dating back over 200 years this adorable, cosy and utterly romantic Lake District cottage is immersed in the breathtaking landscapes of Troutbeck Valley.

Original oak beams, slate floors and a welcoming open fire display distinctive character and charm, but relaxation wouldn't be complete without the contemporary creature comforts; including a rejuvenating shower room and a chic, stylish and sumptuous double bedroom.

Step outside to admire the views over your morning coffee, take a walk in the Lakeland Fells, wander through Troutbeck's friendly rural village, re-fuel by the fire at the Mortal Man, or drive a few miles to Bowness and the shores of Lake Windermere.

However you plan to spend your break in the Lake District, we're certain that Buttercup Cottage will steal your hearts! == Accommodation in detail Private parking place outside the cottage.

Small entrance hall leads to the cosy, but beautifully presented, lounge with Karndean wood floor, exposed beams and warming open fire.

Open to the lounge, yet set apart by the original slate floor, the newly-fitted, cleverly designed kitchen maximises the space whilst maintaining the cottage's character and it even has a wine fridge!

Perfect for romantic suppers!

A shared utility room adjoins the kitchen.

Upstairs, the romantic double bedroom is crisp and fresh, with a stylish modern shower room.

A small and private sitting-out spot provides for morning coffee in the sun or pre-dinner drinks. Location A romantic cottage in the Troutbeck Valley provides a Lake District holiday experience like no other.

Still only a short drive from shops and restaurants in Windermere village, Lake Windermere itself and the vibrant lake shore communities of Bowness and Ambleside, the Troutbeck Valley is a peaceful haven away from the rush.

Spectacular Lakeland fells surround this lush vallley; scattered with historic Lakeland houses and pretty woodlands, and blessed with several acclaimed Lake District country pubs.

The Mortal Man in Troutbeck village is renowned for their excellent food, Cumbrian produce and cosy fireside ambience.

Perfect for a special occasion. There are endless opportunities for romantic Lake District walks from your doorstep.

Taking the car over Kirkstone Pass towards Ullswater, you'll pass Brothers Water - one of our favourite spots for a leisurely Sunday stroll.

For exploring further afield, despite the blissfully secluded feel of the Troutbeck Valley, you're never too far from the main linking roads throughout the Lake District.

About the location

TROUTBECK

Windermere 3 miles; Ambleside 4 miles.

The small Lakeland village of Troutbeck can be found between its more famous neighbours Windermere and Ambleside, close by the Kirkstone Pass. A mixture of houses, cottages and farms, the village is scattered along a narrow lane bordered by a drystone wall. Many of these buildings date back to the 17th Century with features such as mullioned windows and heavy cylindrical chimneys and the northern end boasts its own 17th century inn. Close by, the bustling towns of Windermere and Ambleside are popular with visitors, providing a range of amenities to suit all tastes. Lake Windermere offers boat trips, including the lakeside ferry to the Lakeside Aquarium and Grizedale Forest Park. The ‘Windermere Steamboat Museum’ displays a fascinating collection of boats whilst children will enjoy the ‘World of Beatrix Potter’ in Bowness, where technology brings her characters to life. Within easy reach of destinations such as Coniston Water, Kendal, Keswick and the Lakeland Mountains, Troutbeck is ideally situated for exploring all that the region has to offer.

The outdoor space for Buttercup Cottage is only at the front of the property and the small sitting area at the rear.
