“This is one of several similar style lodges, very walkable to Hawkshead in a good location.”

The lodge is well equiped and everything worked. On arrival, most of the surfaces (table, island, worktops) were quite dirty despite looking OK at first glance. The welcome pack was nice, but didn't include milk, butter or bread - so make sure you've got your own. There was no wood for the fire either, but it's readily available. Wifi was good, streaming and working was no problem. Parking is fine too. The lodge is showing the effects of age and the environment but is in very good condition ...

It would have been good to have been able to have direct contact with the owners rather than Sykes' phone tree of dispair, but that was a minor thing. We would be happy to return in the future.

Thank you very much for you feedback following your stay at Beck of Beyond. I was very sad to hear that you did not find the lodge as clean as you would have liked and have reviewed this with Lakelovers. The welcome pack is a gift from us personally to you and I prepare them myself. Unfortunately as we don't live near to the lodge we have to prepare these in advance so it is not possible for us to add fresh goods. I try very hard to ensure they contain quality products that are appropriate for guests and sorry that these did not match your expectations. We have owned the lodge from new and every year we update something. In the last couple of years alone we have replaced the decking, had new beds, replaced the kitchen cupboards and replaced the soft furnishings amongst other things. If you can let the Lakelovers know anything that you particularly felt were showing signs of age I would really appreciate it as we take great care to ensure that we are maintaining Beck to the highest standards for ourselves and our guests. “I tried to feed this following back via other channels but the app / online accounts / WhatsApp options simply do not work.”

It is very frustrating. The only option seems to be after holiday via the feedback option which is just too late really. ‘Hi - I have tried to feedback via the app both during holiday and afterwards but it seems impossible. I want to feedback on some disappointing experiences at beck of beyond. We have stayed there for nearly ten years and this year we were concerned about the mould in the en suite bathroom (and some general tiredness in the main bathroom). The en suite bathroom had quite a bit of mould around the shower head, grouting and top of the shower area. I had to spend a considerable amount of time cleaning this before we could even start to use it. This needs properly managing and cleaning. I expect some of it is linked to people not using the extractor fan properly and it not being cleaned properly each time. This was very disappointing for us.’ As a result, particularly as returning customers (and ones that are now having a very different time as the accommodation for our last week of our holiday is clean, not mouldy and not tired but for the same price) that we have really overpaid and not had the experience we would expect from beck if beyond. Very poor maintenance and awful online experience that is massively putting us (and other family members and friendly who frequently visit the lakes) off.

As you suggested, this is due to people turning the extractor off and I have now put a notice on the switch to ask people not to do this. The housekeepers we have at Beck are very good and care a lot about the standards at Beck. I have spoken to them myself and can assure you that they have ensured the en-suite has been thoroughly cleaned and will continue to check this carefully. Many thanks for leaving your feedback and I am very sorry that your experience has put you off staying with us again. As you say you have stayed with us for ten years and I am sure you would not have done this if you had experienced this in the past. We have owned the lodge from new and you will have seen how much we care about the standards and are continually updating the lodge. “Lovely lodge and although floors were clean there was a lot of small white dog hairs on sofa, seating and blanket on the bed.”

Our clothes were covered in it when we sat down. Overall lodge was well equipped and in good location. Could do with more knives for eating as only 6 so constantly running out as these used often for sandwiches, snacks, plenty forks and spoons not sure if some gone missing with previous guests!

Everything you need is supplied with good quality bedding and towels. Pleasant outside area to sit with comfortable chairs and rugs and cushions supplied. It has a wonderful feel to it and when you return from a long winters walk the warmth welcomes you. The living space is so comfortable with plenty of choice of different seating. You could spend hours just watching the birds and squirrels. The location is perfect. Quiet, scenic and yet just a short walk to the pubs and shops. “Stunning lodge, in a great area for exploring.”

Short walk into Hawkshead which is a great village with fantastic pubs. So quiet at night, best sleep I’ve had in years. Lodge had everything and more than you could need. It’s a really big living space, with great kitchen and massive sofa! Looking forward to returning in the summer so I can enjoy the decking.

“Beautiful comfortable lodge.”

Very well equipped throughout. We had the whole site to ourselves so it was very quiet and peaceful. Bathrooms and kitchen were clean. A few cobwebs noted in the lounge and dining area higher up near the ceiling and also in the main bedroom. Unfortunately we had 4 spiders during the week, however this is not in any way the fault of the lodge! Two of us are terrified of spiders so it made us a bit 'twitchy'. The veranda was large with plenty of seating and room for our small dogs to run around. A couple of bulbs were out in the kitchen underneath the top cupboards, we found a box of spare bulbs but were uncertain how to change them so we didn't bother. On the whole it is a lovely lodge, warm and cosy and well equipped. Location is great and also peaceful.

“We love the Lake District and take every opportunity to come over and stay for both short and longer breaks (work permitting).”

We had a wonderful week at Beck of Beyond, rarely using the car, exploring walks, both new and old. It was great to be able to return to a warm and comfortable lodge, with everything we needed and a much appreciated welcome gift from the owners. We happened to be in the village during the week of the Hawkeshead Show, which despite the muddy conditions, was lovely to see. Fantastic walks up to Latterbarrow, Tarn Hows, Esthwaite and Wray Castle. Would highly recommend Billy's Bar and The Queens Head for food, and The Minstrel Gallery for breakfast or a refuelling snack...all just a short walk away in the village.

“Absolutely delightful stay in a beautiful location which allowed us to have a wonderfully relaxing holiday.”

The lodge is so handy to walk into Hawkshead for a good selection of pubs, restaurants and local shops. Really appreciated the Welcome Pack left in the lodge on our arrival. Looking forward to returning to Beck of Beyond again next year. Just one minor point but the roadside signage to the site entrance needs to be more visible.

“Clean and well kept.”

Was unfortunate about the leak that had damaged the wooden floor but it was nice that they had left a note to explain. We think this has led to the bathroom door being very squeaky! It would be good if the telly allowed for Netflix etc. Addition of the rocking chairs on the decking area was a nice touch from last year. The outside space opposite lodge is ideal if you have dogs and the location is quiet but is easy walking distance to the town and other great walks. Enjoyable week

“I have literally already recommended this lodge to others and we're planning on coming back.”

For a bit of detail, we're a family of four: two parents, one five year old, one six week old, and we were very comfy here. The lodge was extremely well looked after, warm and very comfortable. It was an extremely convenient distance from Hawkshead. The beds were lovely, the enormous couch was great for emergency naps and the cooking facilities were also good. Worth noting as well, the shower pressure was very good - never a given! We've had a fantastic few days, looking forward to coming back.

The spacious unit is well-equipped for both relaxation and the option of outdoor dining on the deck, which features a gate to keep pets or children safe. A small river, Black Beck, flows past the lodge, enhancing the tranquil ambiance. There is ample parking space for two cars. A nearby farm campsite provides access to a riverside path leading to Hawkshead, just a ten-minute walk away. In Hawkshead, you will find a well-stocked Co-op store, several pubs and eateries, a pharmacy, and various other shops. From the lodge, you can walk directly to the hill of Latterbarrow, where you can enjoy stunning views of Windermere from the summit. Numerous other walks in the area are also accessible. The owners of Beck of Beyond deserve praise for their attention to detail and the high quality of the facilities, ensuring that every stay is a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Certainly a 5 star property. Everything we needed was provided for, including a fabulous welcome pack. Just a 10 minute walk to Hawkshead along a pretty path next to a stream. A Co-op in Hawkshead had every convenience we needed. Did lots of great walks and ate at some lovely places, a special mention for Joeys cafe in Wray Castle. A nice walk from Hawkshead and back. We would live to return.

The lodge is beautifully furnished and kept, and the welcome goodies from the owners was a lovely touch. The lodge is nestled in a peaceful and beautiful spot with just the sound of the beck and the playful lambs to be heard. It really is only a short 10min walk down the beck to Hawkshead village, avoiding walking on the road which is a bonus with dogs. (And children). Would definitely recommend Beck of Beyond to anyone, and we will definitely look at staying here again in the future. 5*

“Well ‘Beck of Beyond’ certainly lives up to the reviews!”

Beautifully appointed and spotlessly clean, it has everything you need for a relaxing stay in the Lake District. Lovely touches from the owners such as a welcome pack and throws to use when sitting outside on the deck. We thoroughly enjoyed our daily strolls into Hawkshead along the beck which runs immediately behind the property whilst admiring the breath-taking scenery. The setting is exceptionally quiet and peaceful with only 4 other lodges on the site. The secure decking area at the back of the property was great for our dog and all the pubs in the village are dog-friendly. The log burner was an added bonus and certainly made the lodge cosy (though the heating is very efficient so it never felt cold). We loved our stay so much that we have already booked a return visit! “We had a very comfortable stay at Beck of Beyond.”

The lodge set in beautiful countryside within walking distance of Hawkshead was cosy and warm and is extremely well appointed. In addition to central heating the log burner was a great addition on a cold snowy Lakes evening. The lodge was spotlessly clean, showers were excellent and all furnishings were of a very high standard. It felt like home from home! A thoughtful guide to the area from the owners provided some lovely walks, a great lunch at the Minstrel’s Gallery and superb fish and chips from the Hawkshead fish and chip shop. We thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay and would definitely return.

“This is our first time using Sykes, We have had many cottages over the years with another company.”

This lodge fitted our requirements wonderfully as the trip was a present for my parents who are getting on in years. Wonderfully located, central to all the great lakes and lovely towns and villages. Unfortunately the lodge was a let down, on arrival in the dark on a chilly Monday night, we found the lodge to be freezing cold, the heating was not working, no logs for fire to get heat. We looked at the boiler ourselves and found no pressure in the boiler, we filled it our selves and got heating. Contacted Sykes who did send maintenance promptly who bought us out heaters to help warm up the place. We were told they were aware of this issue. The surfaces in the kitchen were swimming in water which was coming through the roof. Told Sykes who came and wiped them down this did not however not cure the leak, which dripped constantly leaving brown streaks on the wall. The fridge had mouldy food left in it from previous occupants and the cleaners had let the owners down badly as all the ceilings were covered in black cobwebs. Bathroom extractor fans did not work, we left windows open for periods of time to stop the damp from the steam, but we're a little disappointed. We were informed prior to arrival that the microwave was not working but would be replaced hopefully during our stay, it was not. We are not big microwave users so this did not really present an issue to us. The boiler was not repaired and we appreciate that these things are not a 5 minute fix, we topped up the boiler every day ourselves, however if you did not know how to, you would have issues. Previous occupants leavings were thrown under the beds which we found when looking for extra bedding for my parents. This review has been made honestly and we believe the cleaning and maintenance could have been better Having said all this the lodge was very well equipped through out with books, DVD's ect. The showers were hot and beds comfortable and quality bedding and towels. The general site area was clean and well looked after and the beck was lovely to hear running outside. We would recommend a stay here as the issues could easily be sorted and the location is fantastic.

“A superb place to stay!”

Great size, full of light and really comfortable for a family with a small baby. We also took our spaniel so if was great to have an enclosed veranda to let her out on and not worry about her escaping. All fixtures and fittings were very high quality. It’s a lovely peaceful spot with a stream running behind. The easy 10 minute walk to the village was very picturesque and pushchair friendly which was a bonus. We didn’t want to leave!

“This is a wonderful property in an idyllic spot - a brook runs right behind the lodge.”

Secluded, it is extremely peaceful and quiet, yet it’s only a short stroll (7-10 minutes) - take the riverside path - into the village. It is hard to imagine a better location if you’re looking to get away from it all. Maintained to a very high standard, with a lovely decking area, the location of Beck of Beyond means you can leave your car outside the lodge and discover a plethora of delightful walks (try the one that takes you to Wray Castle) right on your doorstep. I absolutely loved staying here and plan to return asap.

Family board games, selection of DVDs, wifi and a lovely welcome bag were all wee added bonuses that again just added to the lovely experience. Secluded and quiet with an easy ten minute walk into Hawkshead and access to the bike and walking trails of Grizedale. We will definitely go back and just want to say thank you to Jane, Peter, Jack and Harry for a wonderful stay.

The property was immaculate and everything from the furniture and white goods to the crockery and kitchen utensils were of a very high standard. Beck of Beyond is ideally situated for exploring the Lakes, a short drive from Ambleside for Windermere and a short walk from Hawkshead. The enclosed verandah was perfect for our small dog who was able to go outside without us having to worry about him escaping. I would highly recommend Beck of Beyond and would happily return in future.

If you want to leave the car for the week, you can do this here. The lodge sits with 4 other lodges in a quiet location 10 minutes walk from the village. The village is equipped with some good places to eat- we recommend Poppi-Red and the Queens Head. Highly recommended

Immaculate condition. Only minor point is the check in was 16:00 and check out was 10:00. That’s a window of 6 hours to turn the accommodation around. With a 5 hour journey up there, we lost valuable time in the holiday due to a late check in.

“We really enjoyed our stay at Beck of Beyond, we wished we could of stayed longer.”

It’s situated in such a quiet, pretty area with a lovely stream flowing behind the lodge. Upon arrival there were biscuits and wine which was a nice gesture from the lodge owner. The only downside to our stay was the kitchen tap wasn’t working properly, when we arrived the lodge was freezing cold so it would of been nice to arrive with the heating on ready for guests, no firewood or matches were provided so we had to obtain this elsewhere for the fire. The outside light by the front door wasn’t working so when returning from walks it was hard to see what you were doing. Overall a lovely stay and would 100% recommend.

“On the surface the lodge looked clean, however it is in need of a deep Clean.”

Blinds are thick with dust, toilet, wash basins have only been wiped down. Time needs to be taken to properly clean around the taps where the meet the porcelain and where the cistern meets the base. The shower door in the family bathroom needs replacing. Water pours out at the hinged end resulting in the floor being flooded. This is definitely a health and safety issue. The water has also started to rot the wood around the door frame. On the decking some of the boards are broken or damaged and need to be replaced or repaired before someone get hurt. A locked container to store bikes would be useful Lovely comfortable beds, cosy sofa for relaxing and great kitchen with everything you would need. If the TV was wall mounted it would be easier for everyone to see.

“Lodge is placed in a quiet area with only 4 other lodges which may be privately owned as 3 empty whilst there.”

Would benefit with a larger outside bin which gets emptied on a Friday which then can have rubbish left from previous people leaving on Saturday, you need to take as much recycle items into the local town bins to reduce your amount as cannot leave rubbish left in bin liners due to wild life out there. Lighter duvets also would be more comfortable in summer months with extra blankets if needed felt too heavy for me. Great there is a washing machine with supply of detergent, only issue then is drying of clothes outside which the provided airer is very light and slightly damaged therefore not able to hold much weight. Overall plenty of space inside, lovely bathrooms and kitchen well equipped with utensils and cooking items.

Beck of Beyond is a 5 Star luxury lodge, one of only five on an exclusive site situated on the edge of the picture perfect village of Hawkshead, right in the centre of the Lake District.

The location offers tranquillity and fantastic countryside views onto Latterbarrow and Hawkshead Hill whilst being an easy quarter of a mile walk to Hawkshead village.

Hawkshead has strong links with Beatrix Potter and William Wordsworth and has all the amenities you would expect from a small Lakeland village.

Nearby are Tarn Hows, Claife Heights and Grizedale Forest, to mention just a few, where lovely walks can be enjoyed.

Coniston Water and Lake Windermere are also only four miles away where a great variety of water sports and activities can be enjoyed. Accommodation: Entrance, via useful boot room with hanging space for outdoor gear into the contemporary and well planned lounge/kitchen/dining room.

This space is light and airy with oak flooring, vaulted ceiling and two sets of double glass doors leading on to the large veranda with views onto Hawkshead Hill.

Stylish lounge area with large corner sofa to one side (flat screen TV with Freeview, DVD, iPod docking station and free Wi-Fi broadband) and to the other the dining area, overlooking the veranda, and stylish fitted kitchen complete with island breakfast bar.

The wood burning stove sits between the veranda doors and gives the whole open plan living space an air of cosy comfort. There are two bedrooms, the master with king-size bed, fitted carpets and fitted wardrobes has a large fully tiled en-suite (large walk-in rain shower, basin, wc and heated towel rail).

The second bedroom is a twin with fitted carpets, which has use of the main bathroom, which is again fully tiled (shower over bath, basin, wc and heated towel rail). Beck of Beyond is a beautifully equipped and stylish retreat ideal for a Lake District holiday at any time of the year.

Its central heating and feature log burner will keep you 'toasty warm' in the cooler months whilst the large veranda is ideal for morning cups of coffee, evening drinks and meals during the warmer months. AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
