“We were really impressed with the property , it was well equipped, comfortable, cosy and spacious.”

We really enjoyed the added bonus of being able to go to North Lakes leisure club for the week, the facilities there are really good. The only difficulty was letting the agency know how we would like the beds made up as we needed four singles and two doubles. I contacted the live chat person who assured me the message would be passed on , however this did not happen but fortunately my sister lives next door and saw the person preparing the property and was able to let them know . I contacted the live chat person who assured me the message would be passed on , however this did not happen but fortunately my sister lives next door and saw the person preparing the property and was able to let them know . It would have been helpful to be able to speak to someone to arrange this . However we would definitely book the property again as we had a very enjoyable stay . Thank you .

The property

Waltons Close was created from two traditional farm cottages and adjacent barn to create a very spacious and characterful holiday home which is ideal for large families, special celebrations and groups of friends offering high quality accommodation, a convenient location in the pretty Lakeland village of Stainton, easy access to Ullswater and the central Lake District and walking distance of two country pubs. Choose from four bedrooms, all with TV, complemented by three shower rooms and a family bathroom, relax in the lounge in front of the welcoming woodburning stove, enjoy the company of friends and family around the large family dining table and prepare celebration dinners and hearty Lakeland breakfasts in the large farmhouse kitchen. With one of the bedrooms and shower rooms located on the ground floor and offering direct access from the parking area this makes this property very well suited to multi-generational families and those requiring ground floor bedroom and facilities. Just a short drive away is Ullswater, conveniently located a similar distance from the motorway and the market town of Penrith with all the amenities you could need along with very easy access to the popular market town of Keswick and the stunning scenery of the northern Lake District, Walton’s Close is a great choice whatever the time of year. Accommodation in detail: The formal front door to Waltons Close is to the side of the house and opens onto in imposing hallway and dining room which in turn leads to living room, kitchen and ground floor bedroom.

The cosy living room includes wonderful oak beams and a comfortable corner sofa and armchairs are arranged around the feature fireplace with log burning stove and the large TV.

The large hallway and dining room include a large family dining table that will play host to many a family celebration that will last well into the evening and during the daytime there are comfortable side chairs where guests can catch a quiet moment to relax with a good book.

To the front of the dining room is the first of the two patios.

The large farmhouse style kitchen is equipped with electric hob and oven, dishwasher, washer/drier and American style fridge freezer.

A breakfast table in the kitchen is ideal for the kids in the morning or a focal point where guests can keep the appointed chef company in the evening over a drink and a chat.

An inner hallway links the kitchen to the dining room and from here door lead to the second patio with outdoor dining furniture.

From this hallway the first of the four bedrooms is located, spacious dual aspect room can be presented with a choice of either a super king bed or twin beds and adjacent to the bedroom is an outside door that opens to the parking area.

This bedroom is complemented by a shower room with shower cubicle, basin and WC. A staircase leads to the large first floor landing that overlooks the dining room and benefits from the dual height glazed barn door.

Choose from three further bedrooms; to the front are two large bedrooms, both are dual aspect, one is presented with a king size bed whilst the other offers a choice of superking or twin bed and both offer ensuite shower rooms with shower cubicle, basin and WC.

To the rear of the cottage, the final bedroom is a pretty, smaller double bedroom but benefits from an adjacent dressing room with comfortable seating, TV, and dressing table – this room is also handy as it can double as a quiet room for catching up on emails, homework or catching five minutes to relax in front of your favourite TV programme.

Across the landing is the large family bathroom with bath, separate shower cubicle, WC, bidet and WC. Outside the cottage there are two patios, one with outdoor dining furniture, to the front of the cottage there is a small lawned area and there is plenty of parking for up to four large cars.

Parents should be aware that there is a small stream that runs to the side of the driveway. Please note: When booking please specify your choice of beds in the two rooms that can be presented as superkings or twins so we can ensure the rooms are correctly presented prior to your arrival. Location: Stainton is a small hamlet close to popular village of Pooley Bridge at the northernmost tip of Ullswater.

The village has a selection of village pubs, cafes and shops for the visitors and is popular all year round.

The area has a huge selection of footpaths and bridleways and there are walks for all and is a popular area for mountain biking. Travelling from the central Lakes over the stunning Kirkstone Pass you will drop down into the beautiful glacial carved landscapes surrounding the Lake itself, with many quaint villages along its shore line.

The areas around the lake provide the perfect place for a restful and relaxed self-catering holiday, with plenty of opportunity for walking, exploring and getting out on the Lake.

At the southern end of the Lake you will find Glenridding, a popular little village and an excellent base to explore plentiful challenging peaks but especially Helvellyn and Striding Edge. Ullswater is thought by many to be the most beautiful of all the lakes in the northern Lake District, being a serpentine body of water snaking a nine mile course under the lea of magnificent fells, woodland and mountain.

Much of the lake, its shore and surrounding fells are accessible for visitors to explore, where you will find some of the finest walks and water activities, along with the amenities of the lakeside villages.

One of the best walks in the National Park is the trail that runs along the eastern shores of Ullswater.

Explored from the southern end of the lake, dominated by Place Fell, St Sunday Cragg, and Fairfield, you take the path from Glenridding over to the east side of the water.

You will be able to ramble all day with a magnificent view always in your sight.

For the return journey, board the steamboat from Howtown back to Glenridding. For those who like getting up high, there are some of the best mountains and fells on your doorstep, the most famous being Helvellyn and the precipitous Striding Edge. A gentler walk is Aira Force, probably the most famous of the Lake District waterfalls.

The main force falls some 70ft below a stone footbridge - so don't forget your camera. Getting on the water is easy.

You can take a boat cruise on one of the five beautiful steamers in the Ullswater Steamer fleet.

They run the boats from Glenridding, with piers also at Pooley Bridge and Howtown.

It's a great way to see the lake from a different perspective and well worth taking a camera.

Boat hire is readily available, both at Glenridding and Pooley Bridge, where you have a varied selection of craft on offer including kayaks, sailing boats and little motorboats, along with hire of fishing tackle and licenses. Further afield you have Keswick the main town of the north lakes, a bustling market town set between the peaks of Skiddaw and the gentle beauty of Derwentwater.

An all year round town there are good shops, a host of restaurants and cafes, along with museums, a theatre, cinema and leisure centre.

At the lake you can take a boat trip or hire one for yourself and explore the shoreline and little bays.

For more information on Keswick and its attractions see our links.

The market towns of Penrith and Alston lie to the North West on the edge of the Eden Valley and are well worth a visit.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.
