Nurses Cottage

Beautiful cottage with everything we needed.

It was so nice to have been left a welcome bottle of wine & biscuits & also to find things like tea towels, foil, bin liners, washing up liquid in the cupboards. The whole place was spotless & in a great position for a short walk into Hawkshead. We found the beds a bit spongy & could have done with a non stick frying pan, but that's minor compared to the lovely time we spent there.

We really enjoyed our stay in this historical cottage with up to date features.

Very clean and comfortable. We will book again. Needed to report the stiff garage door and the owner kindly opened it for us but we were then afraid to close it. The shower needed attention and we left a note about it. I’m sure this will be rectified.

Gorgeous, charming and very clean.

We stayed over Christmas and received a wonderful welcome pack. It was a joy to wake up in such a magical cottage. Kitchen was very well equipped and dining room was a bonus especially for Christmas dinner. Short walk to village with plenty of great pubs and village had a lovely atmosphere. Lovely cottage, lots of character, good location in Hawkshead.

Having two bathrooms was a bonus. Very pleased with our choice.

I was reluctant to drop to 4 stars on comfort as overall Nurses Cottage is brilliant with the exception of the main double bed.

I'm only 5'10" and my feet hung over to end helped only by pulling the mattress down the bed leaving a large gap at the head end. Also I would add that you can feel the springs quite badly. Apart form this all the facilities, layout, design are perfect and we had a wonderful holiday. (Just an observation the garage up and over door does stick in the middle as it starts to open meaning that unless a tall person can reach it to push in from the top the door can't be opened - maybe a little wood shaved off the top would help)

Ceilings are low in places - be aware!

Parking is down a narrow lane with a swing in and out of the garage - it was tricky with our small Yaris so be aware if you have a large vehicle. Apart from that the property is near perfect. 5 mins walk into Hawkshead - pubs/restaurants/shops. The cottage is extremely well stocked with everything you'll need. Was spotlessly clean. Probably the best presented cottage we have ever rented through Sykes.

Beautiful cottage fabulous location.

Would highly recommend. Had to turn off some of the air freshners in rooms as it affected my asthma.

It’s a lovely cottage, with delightful features and in a convenient setting, with generous space downstairs and a charming yard.

However we were a bit disappointed by the size of the bedrooms and of the double bed, and by there being only one shower - we also noticed the smell in the (too dimly lit) dining room, the hall and the sitting room.

Very comfortable well equipped cottage with lots of character & history.

Good location lots of walks from door.

Nurses Cottage was a real home from home, so cosy and comfortable, we were sorry to leave.

We enjoyed our fourth stay in the Nurse's Cottage.

We absolutely love the house and property, low beams and all (ouch). Comfortable, practical, ideally located a short walk from Hawkshead. Smallish but comfortable double bed (the main bedroom can't hold a larger bed). Excellent bathrooms, kitchen and back patio. The garage is convenient for parking and extra storage space. Handy mudroom for laundry and bike storage. Wifi was a bit slow but reliable. One caution is that the cottage abuts the road heading south out of Hawkshead, and you do hear cars drive by at night. It's not very busy at night, but you do hear every car that goes by. We still love it.

The double bed was a bit of a squeeze with the high bedside tables, which we both banged our heads and elbows on and the bed was very springy, which meant we woke each other up when we turned over in the night, beside those two minor things, we couldn't have asked for a nicer cottage for our stay. Lovely clean and warm and the WiFi was brilliant. The welcome gifts were a really nice touch.

Infestation of flies.

Dining room had an overbearing smell of dead animals or something awful. Quirky house with lots of character but also lots of air fresheners to mask the stench of death. For those with no sense of smell, 5 stars.

Lovely cottage beautifully furnished and with all the facilities that we needed during our stay, including a perfect internet connection.

It was such a joy to return to each day. The welcome gifts on arrival were gratefully received after a long journey. Our only suggestion for the cottage is that the bed side tables are a little too tall in the double bedroom. We moved them out of the bedroom to prevent any bumps to the head . Whilst we brought most provisions with us, the local Co Op was close by for additional items. Hawkshead is a lovely village with lots of walks right from the cottage door. We had a perfect week, despite the rain, and would highly recommend Nurses Cottage.

Very happy with cottage !

Very quirky, comfortable cottage in a great location with just a stroll into the centre of hawkshead.

Well equipped with everything you could ask for to cook your own meals and lovely garden for eating out side. (Needs new can opener) . Parking was difficult, getting in and out of the garage is pretty tight, we parked in the car repair place next door which was great. Friendly staff.

The cottage was extremely cosy and comfortable, very well equipped and met all our expectations.

My only criticism would be that the shower could be improved as it has a poor flow and the heat settings do not respond quickly or accurately but other than that we had a perfect stay. Thank you.

We had a wonderful time.

The cottage is beautiful and very well kept, in fact it exceeded our expectations. It would have been nice, though, if more had been mentioned in the blurb about the very low ceilings, particularly the area between the kitchen and the corridor, and also the central ceiling beam in the lounge. We had quite a few bumped heads! So really the property is better suited to shorter people, ie no more than 5'5". But this is a quibble really. We loved it, despite the bumped heads! One thing we should mention; on the day of departure, we noticed some minor dripping from the low ceiling onto the floor at the junction/corner of the kitchen passageway and main entrance corridor. We couldn't work out where it was dripping from. Given the age of the property, it could be tracking from anywhere. Loose or missing rooftile? We couldn't see any corresponding dripping on first floor. There had been heavy rain the night before so maybe that was the cause. It should definitely be looked at/sorted out though. Many thanks

This was our second visit to the Lake District from Australia staying in the Nurses cottage both times.

Loved the private courtyard garden too. Highly recommend.

Excellent location for exploring the lake district and within walking distance of village with pubs and shops. We rented the cottage for the fourth time and hopefully we will return.

Sykes cottages were unaware of extra parking arranged by the cottage owner and the business next door

The cottage was lovely with lots of lovely crockery to use.

The garden could use a little TLC as it is quite overgrown. The only thing we would mention is the cutlery nothing matched but that is only a minor thing. The light outside the front door needs the bulb changing which we didn't like to do ourselves. The garage was a bonus especially when it was wet.

This is a lovely little cottage in a fabulous position.

It is exactly what you would expect from a traditional Lakes cottage. My only suggestion would be the addition of a shower in the first bathroom but this is a minor issue. Fabulous!!

It was a beautiful cottage and had everything we wanted.

Unfortunately, there was a timer on the hot water which meant that often there wasn't enough hot water for my son's bath in the evenings.

Our 2nd visit to this cottage and we were looking at booking again next May but a £300 increase in price for the same week in May 2022 is ridiculous!

!! So won’t be staying again

Nurses Cottage is a really delightful mixture of historical features and modern comfort in a great location.

It would have been useful ( particularly given Covid) to have a general summary of practical information either the day before we arrived or as an information sheet when we arrived eg were towels supplied or not, how the heating system/ hot water settings worked, refuse arrangements (we missed the collection day as we didn’t know when/what time)

This has been the BEST Christmas I have had for a very long time. This is the perfect holiday from the perfect booking team. PERFECT

The cottage was lovely. It was comfortable and had everything we needed during our week’s stay. In particular we really appreciated the pantry and back room where we could leave coats, boots etc. It’s position, a short walk from Hawkshead, was also brilliant.

We were amazed just how beautiful the property was. It was just perfect!
