Bakers Cottage

We had a wonderful family stay here—this cottage is in such a peaceful, quiet village, and the local people are really friendly and welcoming.

Our 5-night break was just what we needed: our daughter absolutely loved the place, especially the pretty flower tubs in the garden, though she was a little scared by the spiders she found there! We all cherished our evenings sitting outdoors having tea in the garden—such a lovely, relaxing spot. The only downside is the parking: it works well for smaller cars, but hatchbacks or larger vehicles are very tight to manoeuvre and fit. That said, we would love to return next year—we really love this place and would definitely recommend it for a calm family getaway!

Bakers Cottage is a lovely cosy cottage, in a wonderful location to act as a base for exploring, not only the local area of Westmorland (which is amazing) but puts you in easy reach of the Lake District on one side, and County Durham on the other.

The cottage itself, is very clean and tidy, and is well equipped with everything we would need to make our stay comfortable. Just be warned, the parking is extremely limited, with a very tiny parking spot, so if you have a big car, you will need to park out on the main street, which is only a very short walk down the lane.

The listing should be updated as we expected the local pub to be open but woman at post office said this had closed about two years ago.

The cottage was comfortable and clean and parked on main street as this was safest option. There aren't long walks in area so had to travel for these . A few local ones but not what expecting. For small town a lot of traffic particularly large lorries at gypsum site. Neighbors friendly and helpful. Please note at night there is not much street lighting so torch was handy. On arrival a few treats left which was appreciated, Keys easy to access. Email sent to me before arrival much appreciated. Thanks for a peaceful few days .

Affordable, clean and with all the required amenities in place - a perfect and comfortable base to return to after exploring the Lakes.

Lovely cottage its got absolutely everything you need not short of anything, very clean and tidy bed comfortable, had a lovely stay, would recommend staying here.

Very quite and neighbour very friendly too.

Small dog friendly yard. Well equipped. Rooms are small but fine for a couple or three. Parking for a small / medium car.

Found quite easily roads a bit tight on chapel lane lovely cottage nice log fire fresh flowers chocolates and a bottle of Shiraz kitchens well kitted out everything you need comfortable lounge we took a big throw for the large settee good wifi bed was comfy by night two used to a super king size and I'm not tiny but it was fine lovely clean bathroom not as small as I thought when it said compact all in all a great stay smashing cottage with quite a large living area great for our little fur baby Roger enclosed yard plenty of walks would defo return to Bakers cottage

A beautiful cosy little cottage .

Comfortable beds with a well equipped kitchen . The wood burner was a welcome addition. We stayed 4 nights over New Year the cottage was decorated for Christmas & had even we need for our stay . Flowers , wine & goodies were an unexpected bonus .

We stayed at Bakers Cottage in August 2022 and found the cottage to be perfect for our small family (2 adults, 1 child & 1 small/medium dog), and were pleased to find that it was still as well maintained & clean as we remembered, and enjoyed our stay here again this year.

We would recommend this property, and we will be sure to return again in the near future.

Bakers Cottage is lovely and compact but had everything we needed.

The location was nice and quiet, the parking spot is a bit small and not really ideal for big cars due to its position and shape, great if you have a small car! However, we parked on the street the whole time which was fine because the road has lots of space and this saved us trying to squeeze past all the parked cars and vans on a tight bend. The beds were super comfy and la wardrobe with lots of space for clothes. Some hanging hooks on the door may be good though for jackets etc but that's personal choice I suppose. Previous reviews mentioned the very small bathroom but it was fine and it did say in the description it was like this, everything was lovely, soap, toilet roll etc was all provided too and a good shower. The garden was so pretty and the potted plants were in full bloom, unfortunately the weather was rubbish so we didn't get to enjoy it. The lounge was cosy and we even lit the fire a couple of evenings as it was cold so this was welcoming, especially for our dog who just didn't move for hours! On arrival we had a bottle of wine, some biscuits and sweet treats which was a nice touch. All in all it's a lovely cottage and we had an enjoyable few days. We did have to leave a day early due to a family emergency back home, which was a shame, but a perfect base for enjoying the Lakes.

A lovely cosy cottages that was fully equipped, clean and extremely spacious and comfortable for 3 adults and a dog.

perfect base for exploring Northern Lakes and Yorkshire Dales but close enough to central lakes including Windermere and Grassmere. nice to return to at the end of each day following lengthy walks with a powerful hot shower and comfy bed. Friendly neighbours and welcoming village shop only 2 minutes walk. Following other reviews took a heavy base frying pan which came in handy. Will definitely return and recommend to friends.

Extremely well equipped kitchen, which made me very happy as a keen cook!

The cottage was cosy, comfortable and ideally located. Quiet location but good main road links.

It rained all week the wall in double bedroom was wet to touch possibly pointing on chimney stack requires attention .

We had an enjoyable comfortable stay.

It was in a very convenient location. It was cold to start but the heating worked very well and was soon very cosy. In spite of its size the cottage was spacious enough for our needs.

Lovely stay and great communication.

Owner provided a bottle of wine and milk, fresh flowers and a box of chocolates.

The cottage was "compact", especially the upstairs. The central heating was effective in November time. There was a log burning fire, but not enough wood for one evening, extra wood was on offer at £6 a bag. The out of season price was competitive.

This cottage was superb for our break.

Absolutely perfect weekend away from home!

The cottage is beautiful, very clean and well equipped. The added bonus of a welcome gift of flowers, wine, milk and biscuits was very much appreciated. The village is idyllic and easily accessible from main route with lots of places to travel to within less than half an hour. We definitely recommend and will return in the future. Thank you for a most enjoyable stay!

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

The cottage was lovely felt like a home from home with some really nice touches like the welcome pack of goodies. We found some good walks from the cottage and for the foodies a few independent shops in Penrith, Lowther Castle is also well worth a visit.

Very comfortable. The log burner made it nice and cosy. Very well equipped .well positioned. Thoroughly recommended.

The cottage was in an excellent position for walking in the Dales, Lake District and Pennines.

It was easy to get to Appleby for shopping and cafes. We were also within a short walk of the local shop. The cottage was in a very quiet area. The cottage was a very good place for a two week stay - well equipped kitchen, spotlessly clean throughout, cosy and comfortable. We made use of the nice garden and met the friendly neighbours. Parking was ideal for our small car.

Bed very comfortable.

Cottage ideal as a base but wouldn't recommend if you had small children as stairs very narrow and bathroom no bigger than a closet could do with a few more cooking pans and had trouble reading the dials on the hob. Very quiet area but have stayed in Kirby Thore before as have family near by. Parking is a struggle we have a Audi A6 saloon and only just got it in the parking area so anything bigger you have no hope.

Cottage very small and faculties basic.

Garden overgrown and full of weeds. Stairs very steep and insufficient handrails. No proper recycling facilities a definite no in 2021.

Parking very tight especially for someone who hates parking like me. Would have like a dishwasher but that’s because I hate washing up. Lovely little village and The Bridge bistro was fabulous

Very enjoyable stay Cheryl was very helpful no takeaway delivery had to cook not good when I'm on holiday and all amenities a good drive away left one day early as really bored did lots of miles

Just a small issue about parking.

May be better to advertise as parking for one small car. If I had had a larger car it would not have fitted onto the tight parking plot. Other than that that’s cottage was beautifully presented, exceptionally clean and the arrival gifts were very appreciated. The cottage had everything you needed for a pleasant stay.

I felt that there was a large shortage of necessary essentials ie toilet rolls , bin liners, .

I would have preferred to have the little things available instead of the choc mint cake and wine they kindly left us. Disappointed that there were no bins either rubbish or recycling!! We had to make a journey to a recycling centre outside Kirkby. It wouldn’t hurt to invest in a decent tv and entertainment package, due to COVID not everyone wants to venture out in the evening and it was exceptionally difficult to find something to watch.

The parking was a little difficult but room to improve.

The shower room although compact is perfectly laid out in the space available. Arrival touches were a lovely treat. The garden is a sun-trap which was great. The only issue is the parking (especially if a local has taken the space without leaving a note on screen). You will have to do a bit of manoeuvring to get in/out. Definitely would stay here again

This was such a lovely cottage, the beds were so comfy!

The kitchen was equipped with everything we needed. The only thing would be to have a new shower head as it leaks at the bottom so its not as powerful! Perfect gorgeous cottage and i would definitely stay there again

A lovely cosy cottage in a great location.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and would choose it again as an ideal base for the Lakes and Dales. Welcome pack and already-made-up log burner were really nice touches. Bathroom and bedroom quite small but ok for a short stay of a few days. Parking space very tight so needs considering if you're coming in a very large car or motor-home as I think you'd struggle to park next to the property. Overall really good and would recommend to people.

The cottage was everything we wanted and more.

I would highly recommend. Leaving us milk, flowers cake, cheese and crackers and doggy biscuits was a lovely touch. Very close to Penrith, Ullswater and not too far from Keswick so lots to do.

It was so lovely with the little extra things that Cheryl is for you,cheese and crackers and a pint of milk.

Comfortable and cosy cottage.

Well equipped. Close to local attractions like Abbott Lodge ice cream. Just off A66 near Penrith and to the Dales and Lake District. Would recommend this as a place to stay.

Bakers Cottage is a very good place to stay very comfortable, in a lovely setting.

The only issue we had was the garden even though it was lovely wasn't secure for our small yorkie she had to be tied up all the time as she escaped through the fence. I must say this didn't spoil our stay. We would definitely recommend the cottage.

The cottage was well placed for easy access to the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales.

However, the bathroom was extremely small and the stairs are steep and the treads narrow. This could cause problems for elderly people or people with limited mobility but is not mentioned in your guide.

This is a lovely cottage in a nice quiet area.

But with easy to access the lake district and cumbria. The cottage has every think you would need in it,and the little extra touch were lovely.

We have always had good experiences with Sykes cottage but this one was by far the best.

The people who own this cottage are wonderful. Everything you would need was in the kitchen down to a full drawer of spices and a coffee maker wow!! The cottage was really really clean. Beautiful bed linen and towels. Molten Brown bath stuff again wow!! The enclosed garden was a big bonus. There are no negatives to this cottage everything is superb. I would like to live there. Thanks for a fabulous holiday. From 2 very happy adults and 4 legged friend.
