Ideal for a relaxing break at any time of the year, this delightful cottage offers the opportunity to explore the quieter side of Cumbria. This charming property offers cosy and character accommodation, which has been tastefully decorated with beamed ceilings and in the sitting room there’s a fireplace housing a warming woodburning stove. Up on the first floor are two welcoming bedrooms and a small shower room, whilst downstairs a kitchen/diner completes the accommodation. Outside, there’s a secluded patio area with pretty flowering tubs, a perfect place to enjoy a relaxing drink at the end of the day. The village of Kirkby Thore lies next to the A66 and therefore a number of places can be easily reached. The pretty market town of Appleby is famous for its annual horse fair, but is equally charming at any time of the year with its quaint shops and tea rooms to enjoy, along with charming riverside walks along the banks of the River Eden. Within reach is the beautiful lakeside village of Pooley Bridge, which is set on the shores of Ullswater and is just a 20 minute drive away. This pretty village sits at the top of Ullswater from where the steamers depart to take you on a mesmerising cruise down the lake through Paterdale. The stunning Aira Force Falls are also in this scenic dale and make a great destination for a walk followed by a picnic. This cosy holiday home is perfect for couples or small families to explore this gentle area with great amenities on the doorstep.

About the location

KIRKBY THORE

Appleby-in-Westmorland 5 miles; Penrith 9 miles.

The small Cumbrian village of Kirkby Thore is situated within easy driving distance of both Appleby-in-Westmorland and Penrith, due to it being close to the A66. Kirkby Thore sits on the site of a Roman cavalry camp, with amongst other items, Roman coins, sandals and urns having been found in the area. Today, the village offers a church, a shop with Post Office, a bistro/pub and a petrol station. The historic town of Appleby-in-Westmorland is located in the loop of the River Eden, in the heart of the Eden Valley. Appleby is a major stop on the Settle-Carlisle Railway and every June the town plays host to a three hundred-year old Horse Fair. Also within reach is the bustling market town of Penrith, which was once the capital of Cumbria. The town offers a number of specialist shops, sandstone buildings, attractive cottages and gardens, along with a wide choice of pubs and restaurants. With wonderful Ullswater, the Lake District National Park and even the Yorkshire Dales National Park to visit, Kirkby Thore makes a convenient base for exploring the area.
