Nook Cottage

We had a very pleasant stay at Nook Cottage.

The accommodation was comfortable and well-equipped, providing a relaxing base to return to each day. The location is excellent for walking, with great routes nearby. Overall, it was a thoroughly enjoyable holiday and we would certainly recommend it.

Great cottage in a wonderful location.

It was lovely to have a fire built ready for us, as we were soaked when we arrived. The tea bread was very welcome too. Lots of great walks from the door and a fantastic cafe in the village with the best ice creams. Enjoyed the birds on the feeder and seeing the animals in the farm. We had a lovely, comfortable week and would love to return.

The cottage is very comfortable and well equipped and also in a fantastic location. We were able to do lots of walks from the door and there's a great bus service if you want to go further afield. Faye and Craig are excellent hosts. The home made tea bread was very much appreciated and the pork we bought from them was excellent. Can't wait to return in November

We had a lovely 7 night stay in Nook Cottage.

Hosts are thoughtful with lovely touches left in the cottage. The cottage has everything you need and is in a great location to allow for walks from the doorstep or further afield within a 15 min drive to Keswick.

Nook Cottage is one of the nicest holiday homes I have stayed in in the Lakedistrict- and we have stayed in many!

It was cosy and comfortable - a lovely place to return to after a day out in the fells. It has a beautiful location with walks in every direction, from the door. The owners created a memorable welcome: fresh flowers, a dog gift hamper, home baked cake and even bubble bath and bath salts! Thank you very much - we hope to come back before too long.

We had a great October week at Nook Cottage.

It was quiet and peaceful and ideally situated to meet our needs which included dog walking, hill climbing and the local coffee shops! The sausages we had ordered were in the freezer when we arrived and the venison steaks were delivered a day or two later, as agreed. Great communication. Even the weather was good... light winds and no rain throughout!

Nook cottage was such a lovely cosy cottage.

Great to be close to Keswick and lots of lovely walks. I would highly recommend for a relaxing stay close to all facilities. Excellent hosts.

This was our second stay at Nook Cottage (for our minimoon) and it was just as lovely as the first time.

Faye & Craig knew it was our minimoon and left some special touches which made the stay even more perfect. We love this cottage and its location- you really can just walk from the door which is great for Borrowdale where parking can be limited, but it is just 15 mins from Keswick as well. The views from the cottage are unrivalled. Once again, thank you Faye & Craig for a lovely stay.

We had the most amazing time at Nook Cottage, it was even better than we could have imagined.

The location was just stunning - peaceful, with the most incredible views and the cottage itself was very clean and comfortable, we honestly couldn't fault anything. The welcome hampers we also much appreciated. We are already planning our next trip as we genuinely loved everything about our holiday at Nook Cottage. The cottage was in a very good location .

The kitchen & bathroom were basic . At times we ran out of hot water The kitchen requires a small dishwasher utensils and more tea towels

Lovely, comfortable, well equipped cottage in a great location for where we wanted to walk.

We were welcomed with a home made cake and a fire already set which was great ... and there is a pub a minute away which was a bonus.

Staying at Nook Cottage was an absolute delight.

Although we only had the pleasure of staying for three nights, we could have absolutely stayed for longer and would love to come back next year! Lovely hamper left for our arrival and the cottage was spotless. Such a great location with great walks from the doorstep, but also easy to get to other places like Keswick and Buttermere. Will definitely be back, thank you!

It’s in a beautiful location with great walking from the doorstep, and a short drive to Keswick for supplies. For an autumn trip, the Cottage was very warm and cosy, and we enjoyed a real fire each evening. The kitchen is a good size and well equipped. We would definitely come back for another week

Delightful cottage in a fantastic location.

Rosthwaite is our favourite village in Borrowdale and therefore, the Lake District. Nook Cottage was the most comfortable accommodation we've stayed in there. Will definitely return.

Absolutely wonderful cottage - in a lovely part of the Lake District. It felt like home from home. It really is a gorgeous cottage - stunning scenery all around and beautiful walks from the door, couple of pubs in walking distance (about 2 miles or so ) nice to call in for a pint after a walk in the mountains then walk back to cottage or get the bus back (honister rambler passes through here too regularly). Booths just up the road to get supplies etc - lovely drive to Keswick from Borrowdale too. Nook Cottage was really clean and spacious - even though there was only two of us and the dog we booked this 3 bed cottage as it was right in the heart of Borrowdale, nice little farm cafe about 1 minute walk. Excellent and well equipped cottage, had everything we needed. Very comfy bed and we slept like logs. Nice welcome pack for us and also one for the dog too. Very thoughtful ! Faye - one of the owners was lovely and on hand for anything (we didnt meet her other half as he was busy lambing ). Lots of sheep and lambs about when we went which was so nice. Enclosed garden with picnic table and also bird feeders which was great to watch the different birds on it at all times of the day and early evening. We had lovely evening walks round Borrowdale. What a gem of a place ! Loved every minute and were sad to leave ! We will be back.

Perfect cottage with amazing views, full of character.

Very well equipped with lovely secure garden so perfect for dogs. Located on a working farm with an amazing tea room the cake is to die for !!! Very comfortable for 6 people

Nook cottage is gorgeous, spotlessly clean, super welcoming, walk's on the doorstep and 15 mins drive to Keswick.

My daughter's age 11 & 8 fell in love with all the animals on the farm. We will definitely be staying again and I would definitely recommend this property. It's beautiful.

Very cosy country cottage attached to a working farm.

Very light and airy feel, with views on 3 sides and great walking right on the doorstep (both low-level walks along the riverside as well as easy access onto the surrounding hills). Spotlessly clean on arrival and the owners - Faye and Craig - were really welcoming and helpful. Recommend the tea room and farmshop attached to the farm. Would definitely stay again.

Lovely cosy cottage, all we hoped it would be

We loved our stay at Nook Cottage.

We were really looking forward to a post christmas break & the cottage & stay didn’t disappoint. The village & surrounding fells are extremely picturesque, and there are walks in every direction which lead you to some of the best scenery in England. The cottage is right next to a working farm so we loved seeing the animals (especially the piglets & Betsy the highland cow!). We also loved being able to purchase eggs from the owner next door. The cottage itself is perfect. Felt very homely & the owner has thought of everything. We have stayed in multiple holiday cottages over the years and being used to bringing our own loo roll/kitchen roll and hand wash etc, we brought lots for our week stay. However, we really didn’t need to, as it was all there for us to use, which was really appreciated. Welcome basket and dog basket were a thoughtful touch too. The bed was super comfortable and we loved the open fire (which we used every night). Everywhere was spotless & maintained to a high standard. We really can’t wait to return and will hopefully return in the summer months when we can make best use of the garden! Thanks for a perfect stay :)

A typical lakeland little cottage in a quiet and peaceful little hamlet just south of Derwent Water.

Perfect for exploring the valleys that are perhaps not as manic as the main lake walks but with well maintained and easy to follow paths none the less. Quite cozy inside with a good central heating system plus an open fire if you need a romantic touch on a cold wet night. The chimney didn't seem to draw too well and some smoke did escape into the room which did make it smell smoky, so keep all the logs etc at the back of the fire to minimize this. Kitchen had all the equipment you would if you want to cook for yourself and the electric, over the bath, shower was beautiful and hot. I banged my head on the low beam in a bedroom and the low door frames a few times so be careful if you are over 6 feet tall. There is a lovely little shop in the hamlet for basic essentials and a pub and a hotel with a non-resident restaurant so you dont need to travel if you dont want to. The most important thing to note is there is no mobile signal in the cottage or surrounding area. Both my wife and myself are with O2 and we had to drive halfway to Keswick before we got a mobile signal ( this could obviously be different with other carriers ) so if you have people who need to be in contact with you or if you need to contact people, emergency services etc bear this in mind. All in all though a lovely get away from it all little break

The best cottage we have stayed in around Borrowdale.

Very comfortable, cosy, everything you needed although cannot comment on the cooking facilities as we ate at the local pub, 3 minutes walk, every night! Was lovely to see the birds on the bird feeder every morning. Breakfast at the Flock Inn 100 yards away is a must, breakfast with a view!

Lovely cosy and comfortable farm cottage, plenty of character, loved the sloping floors!

Welcome pack much appreciated, and really enjoyed reading and sipping wine while the rain lashed against the windows.

A Lovely cottage tucked away in a small village perfectly positioned for exploring the fells.

Having a secure garden is a bonus as we had a dog and the separate bike shed is a fantastic feature allowing this to store gear and wet items.

We had such a wonderful holiday.

The cottage is so cosy and peaceful and seeing the birds and woodpecker at the feeder is just beautiful. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook a few meals and make our breakfast. The log fire was welcome when it rained to keep warm and read our books after a long day on the hills. We also loved to sit in the garden and hear the sheep … really beautiful place to stay thank you xx

Nook Cottage is in a superb position and has all the facilities needed.

The welcome pack was very welcome and the cottage, on the whole, was clean and tidy (bathroom and toilet were very clean). If we were to provide some constructive criticism, there are areas which could be improved upon. All the glasses, pans and oven trays were far from clean. One of the frying pans was unusable due to a deformed base. Most were very old. The oven itself was serviceable but old, without a working light. It was also heavy with old grease deposits. The glasses were all covered in a greasy film which, whilst easily removed by a fresh wash, was not nice to start with. The same applied to the cutlery. The carpets throughout were old and worn and, I fear, not particularly clean because of it. In the main bedroom, the drawers and cupboard shelves needed wiping down before we could use them. All in all, an enviable position, great little garden for a sunny breakfast, and everything needed for a great time in The Lakes. The cottage is just a little tired.

The cottage was extremely cosy and it had everything we needed.

A doggy hamper was a lovely surprise and one for humans too! The little farm next door was lovely and it was nice to hear the cockerills too. The pub was just down the road and the scenery was breathtaking. We would definitely stay at Nook Cottage again.

We love Nook Cottage for a winter Lakes holiday.

It has all we need, is warm and cosy and there are plenty of walks straight from the front door to cater for all levels of fitness. We always visit in early December and are greeted with the cottage decorated for Christmas along with a welcome pack of tea, coffee, hot chocolate, milk and cake and treats for the children. There is ample parking as Craig and Fay allow cars in front of the adjoining farmhouse. Shopping has to be done in Keswick (we do this on the way as you have to pass through the town on the way to the valley) as there is no shop in Rosthwaite in the winter but there is a cosy bar for meals at The Scafell Hotel in the village if you don’t want to cook. A lovely start to the Christmas month! We’ll be back next year!

This cottage was well equipped, comfortable and cosy for the four of us and set in a lovely location.

We enjoyed the log fire at night and appreciated the welcome pack of milk, tea/coffee and teacake that the owners had left for us together with the fresh flowers. Parking was tight at the front for 2 cars but the owners were very accommodating and allowed us to park both cars outside their farmhouse. It would be worth liaising with the owners before arriving about this. There were plenty of great walks directly from the house and we would like to come back to this lovely area.

A lovely cottage in a beautiful location.

We loved watching the birds coming to the feeders outside the window. Lots of good walks from the cottage and also convenient for higher peaks. There is a good bus service along the valley to get further afield if you don't want to use a car. A nice log fire was welcome after a rainy day out walking.

The property was very comfortable and we enjoyed the fire in the evening.

The owners were pleasant and helpful and there was a basket of things for the dog, fresh flowers and a welcome pack for us which were lovely gestures. I have already recommended this cottage to friends who are intending to go to the Lake District. There were a couple of minor problems and we notified the owners by leaving a note when we left.

Had everything we needed for a very comfortable stay. Great hosts, lovely touches with fresh flowers, doggy treats, and a little hamper with cake and tea, coffee and hot chocolate and fresh farm eggs to buy, We’ll definitely be back.

Generally we had a lovely stay, it's a pretty cottage in a great location.

I would say that the bathroom facilities are very basic, a tiny bath and a weak / ineffective shower - these should really be upgraded for the money we paid. The other challenge is the parking is not ideal, not a huge issue but awkward for turning etc. Other than that, all good - thanks!

Nook Cottage is superbly situated in Rosthwaite, away from the bustle of town but 10 mins from a bus stop and easily accessible by car.

All facilities functioning nicely and the access to an open fireplace comforting in the evening. Central heating and hot water very efficient. All clean and tidy,an ideal lakeland getaway. Thanks.

The cottage was well equipped and the little extra touches that were there for our dog a ball, treats and towel were a lovely touch Also cafetière and coffee and cake for us.

Plenty of towels. The owners were very accommodating when we had a few cars as we all arrived at different times. Home from home. The garden was a bonus at front for our puppy but maybe an extra bit of security around the fencing at back and side of property as he did get through one of the gaps at bottom of fence. Also as you can’t open back door from kitchen as it’s a working farm and the sheep are very close to property maybe a low fence where the chain is so you can open door for fresh air especially on hot day . Just suggestions as we had a wonderful stay at Nook Cottage. Thankyou again Faye and Craig.
