About the location

PENNINGTON

Ulverston 3 miles; Coniston 11 miles.

Pennington is a small hamlet with a scattering of dwellings, farms and country pubs, situated on the beautiful Lake District Peninsula, an area of tranquillity, gentle hills and unspoilt walking country. Locally, the start of the Haematite and Cumbrian Way footpaths can be located, and the twin pubs at Great Urswick Tarn are renowned locally for their fine ales and good food. Pennington's nearby neighbour, Ulverston, is an ancient market town that still holds a street market every Thursday and Saturday. Today, the town is well known as a “Festival Town”, with events throughout the year, and as the birthplace of Stan Laurel - it is now home to the only Laurel and Hardy museum in the world! Facilities include a wide range of independent shops, pubs, restaurants, a cinema and a leisure centre. All of the attractions of the National Park are easily reached. The Furness Coast boasts sandy beaches and good birdwatching.
