“We would definitely stay here again, the location was perfect for us to use as a base and the accommodation was comfortable and cosy.”

We feel like this is so close to being perfect, however lack of attention detail was a huge miss for us. The high chair for our son that we were given was thick with previous food and had black mould on the straps and fabric, which we cleaned ourselves before we could use. The washing machine (which was a big reason why we booked because of having an baby) had black mould around the rubber lining and in the detergent drawer, which we then cleaned ourselves before we could use. The dishes weren’t clean, some glasses were covered in sand? And had to be cleaned ourselves before we could use. We cooked every day but there was only one dishcloth to last us three days, which we found quite difficult. We had to go and buy additional cleaning products to keep the place clean as well as clean the surfaces before we settled in. We personally feel like there needs to be basic cleaning products like antibacterial spray, kitchen roll and stuff for the washing machine. We had a lot of confusion around which bins to use and there should be stickers on the bins to keep everyone in check so that the appropriate items are recycled and waste is disposed of correctly. A basic welcome pack would be a good inclusion to go over the basics, as well as local recommendations to give a personal touch. We were surprised there wasn’t tea bags or coffee to cover the first night after a long journey, this is the only place we’ve not been provided with that on our travels. We have noticed this has been mentioned from reviews from over a year ago and no action has been taken. We feel like these issues need to be addressed to make this a 10 star stay. The accommodation is beautiful and the area is fantastic and we would stay here again, or recommend it to friends and family.

The property

A fabulous, terraced barn conversion on the owner’s working farm in the pretty hamlet of Milton, just a short drive from Brampton.

Lovingly converted, the interior of The Barn has been well-thought-out to provide maximum comfort for guests.

The sitting room has a warming woodburner and sumptuous sofas, the large windows overlook the enclosed garden and French doors lead to the patio area.

This is an ideal spot for letting the dogs safely stretch their legs or just relaxing and watching the sun descend behind the Tindle Fells to the West.

On frosty evenings what would be better than battening down the hatches, and relaxing in front of the woodburner whilst watching a film on the 50" Smart TV!

The adjoining kitchen/diner has a large table, ideal for those family meals or a spot of Monopoly.

The Barn is ideal for a large family or couples, with two en-suite bedrooms and a family bathroom for the third bedroom.

Perfectly positioned for visiting the Scottish Borders, Northern Lakes and Pennines, this is a wonderful place for a Cumbrian break at any time of year.

Note: This cottage is next to Refs. 3738, 3739, 4585, 917515, 922499 and 941220, 949797, together they sleep 30.

About the location

MILTON

Brampton 2 miles; Hadrian's Wall 7 miles; Carlisle 11 miles.

The small rural village of Milton is ideally placed for exploring northern Cumbria, including not-to-be-missed Hadrian's Wall, the lovely coastline of the Solway Firth and the dramatic northern Lake District National Park. The nearby market town of Brampton has a rich and colourful history going back to the Roman occupation, Border raiders from Scotland and the Jacobite uprisings. Bonnie Prince Charlie established his headquarters in one of the old buildings in Brampton, which is now a shop. A few miles outside Brampton is Talkin Tarn Country Park. It covers 180 acres, 65 of which make up the Tarn, a 10,000 year old glacial lake, fed by underwater springs. Further south is Gelt Woods which is an ancient woodland with the River Gelt running through. A superb base for exploring this historic and scenically beautiful area.

Please note: Children under 16 are not permitted to use the hot tub. Anyone over 16 uses the hot tub at their own risk.
