“Home after a lovely week stay at the Byre.”

Cottage was very comfortable and cosy. The entrance to the cottages is quite concealed from the road, maybe better signage would help? The second bedroom with twin beds had no storage, although they was plenty of storage in the main bedroom which compensated. This was not a problem for my mum and I to share the wardrobe and draws but if it was a different combination of people staying in the cottage maybe could be an issue. The cottage was lovely and warm, the storage heaters provided adequate heat and we didn't need to use the log burner. However the storage heater in the smaller bedroom did not work, again not an issue for us during our stay, but as the temperatures drop may cause an issue for other guests. TV reception kept pixelating. This could be because we arrived during storm Amy. Contacted the hosts and they managed to source an alternative indoor Ariel which sorted the issue and was appreciated. Couple of minor snags, the shower hose leaked towards the shower head, the can opener provided did not work, the kitchen tap was quite loose and maybe a welcome book explaining how things worked etc might be helpful. The bedding and towels were of good quality and beds comfortable. Would certainly recommend and come back again in the future.

About the location

MILTON

Brampton 2 miles; Hadrian's Wall 7 miles; Carlisle 11 miles.

The small rural village of Milton is ideally placed for exploring northern Cumbria, including not-to-be-missed Hadrian's Wall, the lovely coastline of the Solway Firth and the dramatic northern Lake District National Park. The nearby market town of Brampton has a rich and colourful history going back to the Roman occupation, Border raiders from Scotland and the Jacobite uprisings. Bonnie Prince Charlie established his headquarters in one of the old buildings in Brampton, which is now a shop. A few miles outside Brampton is Talkin Tarn Country Park. It covers 180 acres, 65 of which make up the Tarn, a 10,000 year old glacial lake, fed by underwater springs. Further south is Gelt Woods which is an ancient woodland with the River Gelt running through. A superb base for exploring this historic and scenically beautiful area.
