This is a really nice place to stay relaxing close to visit train and Motor museum in backbarrow well worth staying here

Friars Fold had everything we needed.

Clean, well equipped, well laid out (with 3 toilets), excellent showers and heating (especially the little log burner, needed even in August!), has ample parking and is well located for exploring the South Lakes. The property was as expected and represented in the pictures, i.e. it probably would benefit from some modernisation as it is getting a little tired. But we saw this from the photos and the price was set accordingly. We know the location of Backbarrow, so we expected the road noise that others have complained about. It wasn't that bad, but if you are a light sleeper take earplugs if you sleep with the windows open! There are walks from the door and lots to do in the area. Not your quintessential Lakeland cottage but a fantastic option for a family on a budget wanting to explore the Lakes and within easy access to the motorway network.

Proximity to lakes etc good.

Seemed like cottage had a superficial clean but needs thorough clean. Moved settee to pick up something that had fallen & horrified at the dirt & dust under there. Similar under beds but not as bad. Also food bits under cushions. Any cardboard packaging in fridge was saturated- obviously fridge not working properly. Very noisy area both from main road and cars speeding through village- perhaps this should be mentioned ? Also lots of dogs barking especially at night- wondered if there’s a boarding kennel nearby? As we were leaving a neighbour (politely) told us we shouldn’t have been parking in space 1. He said he decided not to say anything as he saw that we had 2 cars but his wife wanted him to say something. Not really something you want to deal with on holiday. We had booked the cottage to treat our daughter & granddaughters who are going through a difficult time & having lots of work done on their house so needed to get a way. Wanted a little bit of luxury for them wasn’t quite like that unfortunately.

We were really happy with the cottage during our stay.

It was cosy and very clean.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Lakes at Friar’s Fold.

The accommodation was clean and comfortable. It was very well located for the South Lakes and all the activities we wanted to do (boating, hiking, mountain biking). Backbarrow is small and quiet, but Ulverston is quick to get to for shopping.

Short drive to Windermere Ambleside Grizedale forest Coniston Water I just take of examples of places we visited. We also went to Ulverston festival it’s was a lovely day. I got 2 weeks to spend but only booked 1 week to start with, reason being there was a review on wifi connection issue and I needed to log onto a conference call from the cottage. However after we arrived I connected wifi without a prob so I quickly booked a second week. I think the owner shall clarify on the wifi review on line. Many work from home nowadays so wifi is very important for people to pick a place to stay. Cottage got almost everything needed, we settled in like we were home. It’s not a complaint but May I just recommend a fan for the summer? It happened to be the heatwave week and I really wished there was a fan. I do fancy coming back maybe in the winter to try the log burner.

Main thing they moaned about was the WiFi was out all week. Normally wouldn't be too much an issue but with no phone service in the area too made it worse. If your looking to break away from life for a while it's ideal.
