    “We booked Dairy Cottage for the week for my wife's 60th birthday, and we weren't disappointed.”

    The cottage was very comfortable, spotlessly clean, and had everything we could possibly need. The welcome pack was a thoughtful touch and very much appreciated. Our two daughters joined us for two nights at the end of the week, and there was ample parking space. We will definitely return

The charming old village of Newby sits in a secluded location in the Eden Valley, between the northern Pennines and the Lake District. Newby, with its better-known neighbours of Appleby and Penrith, is surrounded by lovely rolling landscapes and is often described as having a special, unchanging beauty. The village itself is surrounded by open fields, supporting cattle, sheep and horses. The nearby market town of Penrith offers a good selection of shops, supermarkets, restaurants, a cinema and swimming baths. Why not visit the Rheged Discovery Centre in Penrith, or nearby Lowther Castle Gardens and Bird of Prey Centre? Ullswater, with frequent cruises from Pooley Bridge, is eight miles away or you may like to visit Appleby, famous for its annual horse fair and a stop on the Settle-Carlisle railway.
