Set over two floors and sleeping up to six guests, 1 Springfort Cottages is a lovely base to call home while exploring the beautiful Lake District National Park and Eden Valley. Off-road parking can be found at the rear of the property, before unloading your bags in the hallway and storing away any boots and coats. After a long day of walking, look forward to curling up in the lounge, offering a sumptuous corner sofa and woodburning stove for your comfort, along with a Smart TV so you can stay updated with your favourite shows. Rustle up a feast in the kitchen, amply equipped with all the essentials for a short break, including an electric range cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer and even a washing machine, so you won’t have to pack your whole wardrobe! As you while away the hours, venture upstairs to the bedrooms, offering a king-size, double and twin, each neutrally presented and perfect for catching your rest. When you’re ready to explore, head into the town of Penrith where you will find the fascinating ruins of the once remarkable 14th century Penrith Castle, home to the future King Richard III, unravel history at the Penrith and Eden Museum, or venture to the Mayburgh Henge, with the historical sites of Eden Millennium Monument and the site of King Arthur’s Round Table closeby, before refuelling at a local restaurant or gastropub. Head to the beautiful Lake Ullswater, surrounded by stunning scenery and gentle hills, it offers a wonderful spot for walking and enjoying water-based activities, including lake cruises and canoeing. Take a sail on Lake Ullswater’s steamer just six miles away to explore the many valleys carved during the last Ice Ages, or scale the heights of Helvellyn and marvel at the wonderful views awarded at the summit. About the location

PENRITH

Keswick 17 miles; Carlisle 20 miles.

The bustling market town of Penrith, once the capital of Cumbria, enjoys a central position between the Lake District, the Westmoorland Dales and North Pennines and is ideally placed for taking in all that the region has to offer. Renowned for its wealth of specialist shops, the sandstone buildings of Penrith hide intriguing yards, lanes and alleyways, with a myriad of attractive cottages, gardens and little shops. With a wide choice of excellent pubs, hotels, restaurants and entertainment, Penrith also offers a museum, and Millennium Trails round the historic city streets. Within easy reach of the town is Rheged – an innovative visitor centre with shops, restaurants, exhibitions and a giant cinema screen showing educational and informative films. Brougham Castle, Brougham Hall (The Windsor of the North), Lowther Castle and Gardens, Long Meg and her daughters (the 3rd largest stone circle in England) and the historic city of Carlisle are all a short drive away, as is the stunning scenery of both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales.
