“This is a very professional and thoughtfully managed holiday home.”

Cleanliness and standards of equipment are very good. We enjoyed our stay enormously and thoroughly appreciated the view and proximity to town and excellent walks.

The property

Hillhead Cottage, as the name suggests, is set in an elevated position overlooking the fells just a ten minute walk from the centre of Ambleside Village. This really is one of the most desirable locations in Ambleside and this modern, semi-detached property has been finished to a high standard and offers spacious, quality accommodation in a first class location. Hillhead is a popular property whatever the time of year and much loved by guests for bringing groups of family and friends together. The property is built into the hillside and the living areas are all on the ground floor as you enter the property along with one of the bedrooms and adjacent shower room. The main lounge is a bright and airy room which opens to a large balcony with beautiful views across the roof tops to Wansfell to the east and Loughrigg and the distant Coniston Fells to the west. Double doors open the lounge up to the family kitchen dining area which includes a reading area with great views and a cosy log burning stove. A second, smaller lounge is also on this floor providing twin sofas, a further flat screen television and a games console. Also on this floor is the utility room providing laundry and and drying facilities; Hillhead provides accommodation whatever the weather! On the lower ground floor there are a further three bedrooms, two with ensuite bathrooms and a further family shower room. The bustling village of Ambleside offers a great selection of local bars, restaurants and cafes along with a great range of local shops many selling local produce. Situated in the heart of the Lake District there are a myriad of walks from the door, follow in the footsteps of William Wordsworth and enjoy an afternoon stroll to Grasmere, the more adventurous might head right out of the door directly onto the footpath to Fairfield Horseshoe, a favourite of many a Lakeland Fell walker, and if you believe a little effort deserves a reward why not watch the sunset from the top of the nearby Wansfell! == Accommodation in detail The front door of Hillhead Cottage opens to a hallway that leads the bright and airy lounge with comfortable sofas set around the coffee table and positioned to take in the best of the views. French doors open to a large balcony with outdoor dining furniture, ideal for an alfresco dinner whilst enjoying the beautiful views to the surrounding fells. Double doors open to the kitchen/dining area and the offer the option of great open plan layout to that really enhances the social feel of this cottage. Fitted shaker style cabinets are accompanied by an electric oven, integrated microwave, gas hob, dish washer and fridge/freezer. The family dining table is a great place to gather as a family for breakfast or in the evening for dinner with friends. A cosy log burning stove and a couple of comfortable armchairs looking out across the beautiful view are a great place to relax with a good book or the morning papers. Also leading off the hallway from the front door is the first of Hillhead's four bedrooms. This bedroom is a comfortable double room which is ideal for those who do not want to use the stairs. An adjacent shower room offers a shower cubicle, basin and WC. The second lounge is stylishly finished with comfy sofas, large screen TV and a games console. The utility room has washing machine, dryer, fridge, sink and useful storage units Heading down the stairs to the lower ground floor there are three more bedrooms. The first is a king size room with en-suite bathroom with bath with shower over, basin and WC. This bedroom also offers a spacious walk in wardrobe and French doors directly onto the garden. The next bedroom is a spacious king size bedroom with ensuite bathroom with bath, basin and WC. The final bedroom, with views over the garden is offered either as a luxurious super king or can be split to form two 3ft twin beds (please specify your choice when booking). Across the landing is the final shower room with shower cubicle, basin and WC. To the rear of the property there are mature gardens that can be accessed either via a flight of steps from the balcony, the French doors from the master bedroom or a small path that winds down beside the house. The garden has high hedges that give excellent privacy and a range of mature trees and shrubs surround a small lawn. To the front of the property the private driveway can accommodate up to three cars with additional limited on street parking nearby. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
