Bank Hurst Coach House

It was a lovely stay at the Coach House again.

A beautiful and spacious cottage, with a wonderful view over the fields, equipped with everything one needs. The owner Colleen is very friendly and always there on questions or needs. I can fully recommend the cottage.

This wonderful cottage was everything we had expected , we can’t think of anything we would have wanted more.

It is in a great location, a quiet and peaceful position yet easy to travel to the numerous places of interest in the area.

We had a lovely stay Bank Hurst cottage over the weekend.

It was incredibly well equipped (even having an air fryer and Sky Sports!), finished to an excellent standard and spotlessly clean. For two adults and a dog it was really spacious and well situated just outside of Ulverston. We did a long walk from the cottage up Hoad Hill, down to Canal Foot and back through the town (c.7.5miles) and travelled the 35 mins to Windermere and 45 mins to Ambleside on other days. We had everything we needed for a perfect stay and Gerry (our host) was incredibly welcoming from the minute we arrived, offering guidance and advice.

A beautiful, well appointed house situated in gorgeous surroundings, ideally located for fantastic dog walks.

The wood burner was an added fantastic feature which we so enjoyed after a day of walking around the Lakes. A 5 star property indeed!

Bank Hurst Coach House is top quality accommodation, they have thought of everything even down to providing a dog bed.

It is situated perfectly on the edge of Ulverston and is the perfect base for travelling around the area. The owners are lovely and we would definitely stay here again.

If I could give '6 stars' for this property, I would.

A beautiful, excellent equipped space, with every facility we needed for ourselves and our Labrador retriever, Mabel. Located on the edge of Ulverston with many local walks accessible on foot, and nearby places of interest just a short drive away. Would definitely revisit!

Bank Hurst Coach House is in an ideal location for exploring the South Lakes and is just a short drive/walk to Ulverston town centre.

We had an issue with our dog when we visited this property.

I rang the owner who bent over backwards to help. We were prepared to walk away losing our money etc as the dog could not manage the stairs. After speaking to the owner after only 40mins we had a solution. Thanks a million for being so understanding our nephew and his family had a wonderful stay and gave you some wonderful words. Your cottage is outstanding and we will be back but sadly will be without the dog. Thanks for your understanding and flexibility

Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will go back for a 3rd visit. The coach house facilities are 1st class and the owners are lovely people, helpful and ensuring that everything was to our satisfaction. Bank Hurst location is ideal for visiting all the tourist sights and the many lakes and walks. We would recommend a stay at Bank Hurst.

An absolutely lovely property with everything you could need.

I normally take things like clingfilm, foil etc with me as many places don’t have these but this place had it all, including spare dog bowls and a dog bed! The surrounding scenery was gorgeous and we were so lucky with the weather, blue skies everyday! Easy downhill walk into Ulverston, and then a lovely walk back via the river and across the fields. Easy to get to the ‘gentle’ trail to go up to the monument, definitely worth it for the spectacular views! Overall, a fantastic property that we will not hesitate to book again.

A really lovely well equipped property in a great location close to the lakes, and coast with lots of dog walking from the door and walking distance from Ulverston with excellent vibrant pubs and food options.

Lovely cottage located on the edge of Ulverston.

Close enough so you can walk into Ulverston but set in beautiful countryside. Cottage has everything you could need and a lovely wood burning fire.

Such a lovely place to stay.

Really comfortable, cosy and had everything we needed. Beautifully furnished. Such a peaceful location and perfect enclosed outside space for our dog. Thank you.

The property is one of the best we have hired, it’s close to town but also far away enough to feel in the middle of nowhere, it’s clean, has most things you need , the log burner was so good, nothing like a criticism but would benefit from a hot tub outside , The sofa isn’t the comfiest but that’s just our thoughts .

Lovely house and close enough to walk down the hill into Ulverston in the day time.

We loved the walk up to the monument, the views were amazing from up there. We had a lovely week visiting some beautiful places. Owners were lovely too.

Cutlery drawer game of hide and seek the only challenge!

We have stayed in several different places with Sykes.

All have been lovely in there own way. However this was the best of them. Was a lovely converted barn. Well laid out and spotless. Had lovely views from the main room. Easy to get to all the places we had planned to visit.

The property was well equipped, clean and very comfortable and cosy. We especially loved the views and the space. It was conveniently situated to all the walks and areas we wanted to visit. The owners were very friendly and helpful. There was nothing to dislike and no negatives. We hope to return in the future.

Superb accommodation!

One of the very best we have stayed in. It is spacious, warm, very clean and comfortable. We very much appreciated the log burner and all the wood provided. The downstairs hallway with clothes pegs and large shoe rack is ideal to leave coats and boots after a walk. The flat has everything one needs. Gerry and Colleen are very generous and we thank them for a wonderful stay. The location is ideal. There is a picturesque footpath to the town centre. There are great walks from the doorstep. We did the walks recommended by Gerry. It’s a pity the weather wasn’t kinder but it didn’t stop us exploring.

Excellent accommodation , thoughtfully furnished and decorated with everything you need for a comfortable stay.

All appliances and kitchen equipment new and good quality. Bed is super comfy. Situated just on the outskirts of Ulverston ,it’s a scenic rural spot with sheep just outside the window. Lovely outdoor area with relaxing seating. Owners live next door and are super friendly. We arrived by train and the walk to the property is doable but uphill most of the way.

Loved the cottage - great use of space, modern and well equipped. Miley (dog) loved it too. Such a great base for exploring the area. A relaxed and chilled time on return from walks. The owners were amazing and so friendly and welcoming. Xx

Wonderfully, clean, spacious and relaxing cottage.

It has everything you need to chill out. A good central place to stay to visit lots of surrounding places. Lovely views as well. Would definitely go back.

Armchairs and settee not comfortable.

There is a foisty/damp smell in the bathroom. Otherwise a 5 star property in a very good area.

A lovely property and we had a wonderful time.

Fantastic walks from the door, up to Hoad Monument and a perfect location to explore the lakes, such as Windermere and Coniston. The local Motor Museum is very dog friendly as are most places it seems. We loved cwtching up in front of the fire of an evening, as did Otis & Offa the dogs. Would highly recommend.

Had an amazing few days at the Coach House, wish we had stayed longer, will defiantly return.

The property was beautifully looked after throughout and is really comfortable - the log burner was a favourite of ours - also liked the amount of TV channels on offer which you don’t normally expect. Honestly can’t think of anything they’ve left out. The owners couldn’t do enough for us, (“help yourself to logs” was a nice touch) and found the perfect balance of being neighbourly and letting us relax. Also worth noting that they have listened to reviews and acted on them (there is now a hairdryer and stool for cupboard) just to show how much they care about the home. Ulverston itself was perfect - recommend the Mill pub - but it’s the property we would happily return too - if only for our dog to say hello to the sheep each morning which he loved.

stay in this property and never let's us down. To improve comfort rating to top marks would suggest a couple of foot-stools for the armchairs as they are quite deep. Super stay.

There was nothing to fault.

All perfect and in a pretty peaceful location. been our favourite accommodation to date. Just because you have a dog doesn't mean you need to stay in a smelly place. And this proves it.

Bank Hurst Coach House is unique and stunning accommodation set in a lovely peaceful quiet area just outside Ulverston.

The outside beautiful stone walls are contrasted with modern aluminium windows, with glass balastrades and huge oak beams in the airy vaulted open plan living room. The kitchen is a great size with everything you need (ps the cutlery drawer is somewhat hidden inside the top pullout drawer to the left of the oven!). The ensuite is huge with a massive walk in shower with a monsoon shower head (note, there was no hairdryer which I thought was unusual). We were blessed with sunny warm weather so we only used the log burner once, but it really is a spectacular special feature. The Lakes are a 30 min drive away, so be prepared to drive a bit further in/out each day. However, being down on the Ulverston peninsula meant we were closer to the beaches (highly recommend Haverigg Beach). Our cockerpoo Harley had the best time ever and she learnt to swim in Ennerdale Lake. We had such an amazing wonderful week and we were so sad to leave. Unfortunately the owners whose own house is nearby were away so we never got to meet them. But if they read this review, thankyou thankyou thankyou

First class accommodation. Lovely setting about a mile walk into the town of Ulverston. Gerry & Colleen were fantastic hosts and always available to advise on what places to explore. Ulverston is a gorgeous village. Views from barn incredible and really felt like coming home after days walking and exploring. 10/10 had the best week ever!!

Modern and stylish and a great base location for travelling the Lake District. Will definitely be making a return at some point! Have recommended to friends and family looking to visit the Lake District.

A foot stool would be a great addition to the furnishings, hence the comfort rating as not a perfect score.

I'm not nit picking as this is a wonderful place to stay.

Perfect stay!

The location was amazing and the coach house was the perfect mixture of modern and country. The open fire we had burning every night and heated the place up quickly, which was lovely for these frosty nights! We went to the Farmers Arms for a lovely pub meal and the Rose and Crown was lovely too. We also ordered from the Rainbow Chinese which was phenomenal - would highly recommend! We made a few meals in the coach house and it had every utensil we needed. The only 2 things I would change if I could would be a bath and a bigger couch - but I’m a sucker for a tub and a huge cuddle couch

An absolutely fabulous accommodation.

Located just outside of the town with easy access to all amenities, Lake District and beaches. Wake up in the morning to peaceful rolling hills and woodland. The coachhouse was very well equipped and pets catered for. Useful information about dog friendly walks in the area. I would highly recommend to others.

Bank hurst coach house is a lovely place to stay .

We were greeted warmly by Gerry and Coraline , the dog was there to greet us as well . It is set out well , the bath room was lovely, spacious lounge and kitchen .

A lovely setting and an amazing building with huge amounts of character. The layout gave the whole holiday a very relaxed feel and we were so comfortable. Local shops and amenities were just a 15 minute walk down the road with lots of pubs and restaurants to choose from! We also found a nearby beach called Brick Kiln road beach which is lovely for a Sunday morning stroll! We will definitely be booking again!

The Lakes are accessible for sightseeing and shopping, and there were some lovely beaches near-by for walking the dogs. Good walks nearby the house itself. Host were welcoming too. Would highly recommend this property.

Beautiful cottage that had a fantastic view.

Well located to the coast and other towns and villages, lakes. It was very well equipped with everything, actually 5stars in all respects. Absolutely outstanding! We will be back.

Wow what a beautiful place to stay , the owners of the coach house live next door and are there if you need them ( if your lucky you might get to try there homemade cider ) .

It is just far enough out of the lovely small town of Ulverston, you can walk to it if you want with lots of places to eat / drink . The coach house had everything you need to make it a wonderful stay and we are already looking to book again for next year , I’m already missing the views from the balcony.

We loved this accommodation.

Stayed for two nights (28th and 29th July) and could easily have stayed longer. There were no negatives whatsoever. Everything was to a very high standard and quality. It had everything you need for your stay and also for our two doggies who also loved it. The view from the double patio doors was breathtaking. The owners live next door but were not intrusive at all however they were there if you needed any advice on anything. I have already recommended it to a couple of friends and family. We will definitely be going back. Joanne

The accommodation is first class in every way!

The property is perfectly situated in a quiet pastoral setting just outside the market town of Ulverston. It is an impressive newly-converted barn with an open floor plan, modern in every way, very comfortable, and extremely well equipped. Sadly I was there for only a few days but could have remained there indefinitely.
