1 Tower House

New bathroom is dangerous in places.

Corners of the very small sink are razor sharp. The slate like window sill has sharp edges. Beware the shower screen has sharp edges. My wife cut her arm getting out of shower. We have stayed here before. Previous bathroom was safer.

This was a great place to stay and perfect for my wife and myself.

The town of Cartmel is charming with the right balance of quality restaurants, beautiful walks and village activities, with a nice calm and quiet feel. It is a great escape from busy city life. The flat was wonderful and our host was so kind and accommodating.

Beautiful stay in the heart of Cartmel.

We stay every year but try different houses and this by far has popped itself to the top of the list.

Absolute little gem of a find was this little flat.

Had everything you needed there. Huge bedroom with plenty of storage space. A very big and extremely comfortable bed. Beautiful lounge which overlooked the little street. Just perfect in every way. Stayed for the racing, but parking doesn’t exist when that’s on. However there is free parking about 10 minute walk if required. Plenty of pubs and coffee shops to pop into, along with the famous sticky toffee pudding shops too. Will most definitely be back for a longer stay! Absolutely adored this place!

Superb cottage in a great location.

The little extras like milk, butter, bread and treats for our dog made it feel extra special. We had an issue with wifi in the cottage but phone Sykes customer service and between them and the owner they sorted it out within 5 minutes!. Really loved it !

A beautiful cottage with lots of really interesting features and all the facilities needed to make your stay comfortable.

Loved the decor and the artwork! Great location for everything the village has to offer. We parked in the car park by the race track which was quite convenient though cost a little extra.

We arrived a little too early but we were greeted by the owner's sister who was very busy preparing the accommodation.

We were given a huge warm welcome and within a minute of stepping foot on the front door step, the kettle had been put on for us and we had a lovley chat about the area. The accommodation itself was beautiful and was very clean. There was a much appreciated welcome pack with the basics bread milk and butter, but also some treats for us and the dog too. This was a perfect touch. The location in the centre of the village is ideal. The only negative i have is that we didn't stay longer. We were so comfatable and it was really cosy. We would definitely return

I'm loathe to leave a glowing review of Tower House - because it means other people will book it and we want to claim it for ourselves!

But seriously, the accommodation was wonderful. Clean, comfortable, perfectly situated in the heart of the village, with every amenity (sorry, nearly every amenity - we couldn't find any egg cups!) it ticked every box. The flat is opposite the Cavendish Arms so you'll hear delivery lorries in the morning - but not so early as to be disruptive. The flat is beautiful, and a real home from home. Having a morning shower with the sound of the bells from the nearby priory coming through the window was heart-warming! Rooms are spacious, key collection etc was easy and we will definitely check the availability of Tower House next time we're in Cartmel. Thanks for a great stay.

It was a lovely,dog friendly,ground floor apartment in the centre of Cartmel.

It was everything we had wished and were not disappointed. A great property and we would hope to return in the near future.

Extremely comfortable large bed and everything was so simple to use and we had just what we needed. We walked the 10 steps over to the pub for dinner and breakfast! The groceries were much appreciated thank you. We would definitely stay again.

Lovely little flat right in the center of Cartmel!

Couldn't believe how clean and comfortable it was, also had everything we needed for our stay with the little welcome pack left! Lots of lovely little pubs and restaurants right on the doorstep, and some lovely walks by the river! Only downside is parking was a bit of a nightmare as card readers were down at the car park, but this has nothing to do with the flat. Couldn't recommend enough!

The flat was very good.

We knew there was no outside space for our two elderly dogs which meant early morning and late nights trips out which would be the only reason not to book in the future.The only other slight problem was we take with us frozen prepared food for our dogs and on arrival found no freezer.Very small comment no egg cups.Thank you for a very nice stay would highly recommend.

This is a beautiful presented apartment. Shame about the parking permit as parking charges all add to the holiday. But all in all really enjoyed out stay.

.our second visit. Lovely ambience very comfortable lovely goodies left for us to enjoy was a very welcome touch. Cartmel is a picturesque village and you very much feel at the heart of it in Tower Cottage so much on your doorstep.

1 Tower House was a lovely base for us for a memorable holiday.

We were celebrating our anniversary with a visit to L’enclume. It was very special, with Tower House being a 1 minute (if that) walk away from the restaurant! It is perfectly situated to explore Cartmel itself too. The Cavendish Arms just opposite serves very nice food also. The racecourse car park is only a couple of minutes walk away and really useful for overnight parking. It wasn’t expensive either being £10 for 24 hrs. The only downside to our stay was that there was a very strong smell of paint when we arrived. This did give us a headache and made using the bedroom difficult. It did subside a little for the second day, but was still strong. The kitchen was well supplied, the rooms were large and very comfortable. Good WiFi. Lots of books and games on hand. Very quiet and peaceful. We were grateful for the bread, nibbles and Prosecco that was left for us. We used some of it for our breakfast. We would love to visit Cartmel again to explore the things we didn’t have time for this time and would definitely like to return to Tower House if it is available. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Had a lovely stay at 1 tower house.

This is a beautiful, warm and cosy cottage most welcoming.

The hosts have gone above and beyond to provide for their guests including a welcome pack that was most appreciated. The location is idyllic and so relaxing. Parking is a little challenging and can lead to a bit of tension in the narrow streets when other residents have vans and work done on their properties.

The property was beautiful and in a stunning location.

We felt at home straight away, as did our pooch! The house was clean, cosy and well maintained. The welcome basket and bottle was greatly appreciated! It was a treat to have the lovely super king bed too. The only small thing was the unexpected construction outside the house which could be quite loud at times as it was directly opposite, but as we happened to be out walking most of the day this didn’t bother us too much. You’re within walking distance of many shops, dog friendly pubs, and great dog walks in the local area, while still only being up to a couple hours drive from the lakes and fells to the north (we drove to Windermere, Buttermere, Keswick, Coniston etc with great ease). Overall we had an amazing week and didn’t want to leave. We’ll definitely be back!

This property is in a great location within easy walking distance of the racecourse and Priory and the town square with a vast selection of dog friendly pubs and restaurants, cafes and shops to suit every taste and budget.

The interior of the property is tastefully decorated. The good sized living room and bedroom have a cozy, warm feeling to them and provide a home from home. We appreciated the many extra touches provided to add to the comfort of our stay. Thanks for the lovely bottle of wine and basic provisions to get us started. The owner answered our questions honestly when booking so we were prepared to deal with the fact that there was no garden or parking and the tiny shower room, off the galley kitchen. Slippers are needed but the shower worked well and the wide windowsill provided ample space to put bags containing our bathroom stuff which was easily reachable from the shower. Small bathrooms can be easier to negotiate and that proved to be the case here, albeit one at a time.These things did not detract from our stay, either for ourselves or our two Labradors who loved their holiday with regular walks around the racecourse , albeit sometimes in the early hours of the morning, (an extra evening walk after dinner solved that difficulty) and a choice of lovely dog friendly beaches and stately homes with extensive grounds to visit within easy reach. Overall this apartment provided excellent value for money and the residents parking permit provided for use during our stay proved invaluable.

This apartment was first class, beautiful decor and very comfortable, great nights sleeps with such a great bed.

Truly wonderful week at 1 Tower House, fell in love with Cartmel and all it had to offer.

Perfect location in the village, bright and breezy, comfortable and a pleasure to return back to after exploring the wider Lakes area. With the beautiful Cavendish Arms and other great foodie places on the doorstep, including the Michelin starred restaurants from Simon Rogan and not forgetting the race course and fabulous dog walks surrounding with stunning scenary, which Tallulah & I enjoyed exploring. 1 Tower house was incredibly comfortable.

From the big bed to the lounge room. Very clean and in a lovely location. We arrived late at night and we cannot tell you how much we appreciated the bread butter and milk for the morning. That was very thoughtful. We loved staying at the tower house and would do so again.

Beautiful accomodation in a central location.

The welcome basket of goodies and the bottle of fizz were much appreciated and the little touches such as the welcome notice, and the dog biscuits made us feel special. The reason I am not giving it 4 stars is there is building work going on opposite which starts early in the morning and goes on all day. I appreciate there is nothing the owner can do about that however it looks like the building work is going to go for a while yet so it may be this should be flagged to potential guests. We will come back and stay again - but once the builders have gone.

The apartment is beautifully decorated and very spacious, it's home from home with everything you need for a wonderful stay. On arrival we were greeted with a wonderful welcome pack with lots of lovely goodies for us and the dogs. We would 100% recommend this delightful property, we absolutely loved our stay and will definitely be back.

Having read that a parking permit would be available we were disappointed to find that there wasn’t one so,despite trying the no.

given several times and unable to get a reply we were forced to pay £35 to park in the racecourse. Then on Monday morning the builders arrived to work on the building about 6yards in front of the apartment. They commenced to start cutting stone with the attendant dust and noise. Unlike most British workmen they worked until about six in the evening. Fortunately the weather was kind so we were able to stay out until they left. It’s a shame as it’s a nice apartment and the welcome pack when we arrived was very nice.

Apartment was lovely everything we needed for our wkend away. Although we wasn't too lucky with the weather the apartment always felt cosy and warm to go home too. The special details of putting Christmas decorations up for us really made our wkend. Would certainly recommend this place to family and friends and will certainly return. Have used a few local cottages in the past but this one is right up there. Arrangements for entry etc all worked well and a lovely welcome pack left. Flat had everything needed. For sure will use again. Thank you . Rbt

We had a lovely week in Cartmel.

The property is beautiful. Warm, spacious and inviting. The property had everything we needed, and was a lovely base for our travels. The village is very picturesque with a friendly and welcoming community. Definitely need to try the famous sticky toffee pudding, available from the local shop. Highly recommend!

Cracking little apartment in the middle of Cartmel , location could not be better and the visitors parking permit (which is a new idea I believe ) was a big plus .

The owners left a nice little basket of goodies and fizz which is a lovely touch at a time when everyone else seems to want to cut costs , little things like that go a long way . Only criticism ….. I wish there was extra bedrooms so I could bring more family and friends to enjoy this lovely place :-) Thank you for helping make our 10th Wedding Anniversary a memorable one . Will return soon hopefully .

Beautiful ground floor apartment in the heart of Cartmel, and dog friendly.

We really enjoyed our weekend stay here - very comfortable and everything we wanted. We arrived to a lovely personalized welcome board, and basket, packed with bread, butter, jam, biscuits,.....milk in the fridge, and a bottle of Prosecco,and two glasses, - a really lovely touch. Very spacious all round and very comfortable....would definitely recommend, and want to return to. A lovely find. I needed to contact the owner the day before our visit - received the confirmation I needed and she also mentioned about leaving a parking permit for us to park free on the nearby streets in a particular zone.....a great help!

The apartment overall was lovely although unfortunately we did find a few negatives!

The welcome pack was very much appreciated and the parking permit was great. I know you can’t really do anything about the layout but we found the bedroom huge and the bathroom tiny, and we did struggle a bit with that. We had awful weather so spent quite a lot of time inside the apartment and found the settee in the lounge very uncomfortable. The channels available on the TV were great. Unfortunately my Husband didn’t sleep too well as he said his side of the bed sloped down at his side (left side as you stand at the bottom), my side was fine! We were disturbed quite early on Wednesday morning by the painters that were doing work on the outside of the building! Overall we had a lovely break, we had our first holiday together in Cartmel, nearly 30 years ago! We had a lovely meal every night at the many pubs there are in Cartmel, we were spoilt for choice!

The location and apartment are stunning and perfect for visiting the lakes and surrounding events, we had an excellent week, weather allowing of course. A couple of small things that would add greatly if possible to the experience, parking as you know can be difficult at popular times, if possible the temporary use of a local permit would be great, particularily for disabled clients, allowing parking closer to the property. If possible the addition of a clothes washer/drier would be a great addition if it can be fitted in, of great benefit especially in bad weather for walkers cyclists and others etc.. These are small additions that would be an attractive benefit enhancing visitor pleasure increasing the appeal of 1 Tower House facilities and add further to a very enjoyable visit. Absolutely wonderful apartment!

It had everything we could possibly need for ourselves and the dogs! Lovely welcome hamper (very nice wine!) and the most comfortable enormous bed. 2 nights really wasn't enough

Lovely welcome hamper on arrival, and it was nice to stay somewhere that was truly dog friendly with bowls & biscuits ready for us when we arrived. We will be back again!

The apartment was absolutely beautiful.

Our first reaction when we went in was wow, spacious, well presented had everything you needed for a holiday. It was very clean, the bed was so so comfortable (my husband said it was the most comfortable bed he had slept in, struggled to get him up in the morning). The apartment is right in the middle of a stunning village, everything within walking distance, restaurant, cafes, pubs and a few shops. Would love to go back and we have recommended to all our family and friends.

Superb location for our winter break.

A warm, comfortable and well equipped apartment, occupying a great position in lovely Cartmel, opposite the Cavendish Arms.

The owners provided lots of lovely treats for us as well as for our dog ! We love Cartmel and enjoyed our walks despite the adverse weather. There are lots of lovely pubs , particularly the Cavendish , which provides excellent food , great beer and wines and cosy log fires - dog friendly too . The Unsworth Brewery is also a good place for food as well as beer ! Lovely atmosphere. Of course L’Enclume is another attraction. I will certainly consider booking again.

This property is lovely.

The welcome you get when you arrive is fab - and I am assuming as winter it makes it more special with the lights. I love the little touches with decor, books and games - and the fact that the cupboard is kept with loads of things that normally people throw away. I have been to places with no salt or anything. There is other nice things and surprises - but I wouldn’t want your next guests to read as we didn’t and that is what made it more special. Cartmel is a lovely little village and has been one of our favourites for many years. Especially cavendish and Unsworth yard. Lovely welcoming people. Unsworth now do fab tapas and highly recommend. Property was lovely, everything you needed was inside the apartment, my only negative was that a parking pass wasn’t included in the rental, it cost us £35 to park the car for the 4 nights, we have stayed in other apartments where a parking pass was included

Location is great, right in the centre of the village. Plenty of places to eat close by and a good village shop. Great area with plenty to see.

We had a very relaxing time.

The flat was very clean, beautifully decorated with lovely paintings and was very comfortable with every amenity provided for. The bed was large and extremely luxurious, so much so that we struggled getting out of it in the morning. The towels smelt lovely, please let us know what you use to wash them. The welcome gift pack together with the wine and the fresh flowers, especially the single rose on the bed were extra nice touches. Although we couldn’t park directly outside the property, there were safe parking areas free at the side of the road near the race course. Cartmel is a quaint village which you can walk around easily with a good small supermarket and other shops / coffee shops to buy refreshments and souvenirs. There are 4 pubs, one being directly across the road from Tower House however we didn’t experience any noise from there. We thoroughly recommend the Unsworth Brewery where you can have cocktails and craft ale and has an outside drinking space with heaters. There is also a restaurant, Oscars. We appreciate the building is grade 2 listed and sometimes there can faults with it which are hard to rectify. The shower flow was powerful however the drainage was slower to drain away and therefore had to keep turning the shower off mid way to let it drain. The basin hot tap shuddered and made a loud noise as if it had an air lock. However these minor details did not detract from the brilliant stay that we had at 1 Tower House. We would thoroughly recommend it and would have no hesitation in returning. Thank you for making our holiday special.

Cartmel has been our ‘happy place’ for well over 25 years and 1 Tower House did not disappoint!

It was perfect for us and our Cockapoo, Stanley.

The house was very nice with everything you could want to enjoy your stay provided, including a welcoming basket on arrival.

It was very clean and comfortable. I would certainly book this property again and would recommend it. It could only be improved if there was a small outside area.

Right in the middle of the village. The flat is a little gem. Everything you could want and more. The locals very friendly made you welcome wether in a shop, pub or cafe. Excellent base to travel around the rest of the Lake District. Will definitely stop again.

A beautiful & super comfortable apartment right in the heart of Cartmel.

We had some really nice surprise extras including fresh flowers, Prosecco, coffee, tea, food, dog treats & more. Lovely location, we couldn’t have asked for more for our stay. We would highly recommend Tower House as a couple with a dog it was brilliant although there’s not a garden it’s the most beautiful village to walk around and super friendly people, fields nearby and of course the wonderful Cartmel racecourse and surrounding woodland with a half hour drive to Lake Windermere and the coast. Restaurants, pubs and cafés in the village all serving delicious food. Oh and if you love cheese you have to visit the cheese, beer and wine yard. Which is a three minute walk from the front door. Heavenly!!

Some very welcoming personal touches with the table settings and chalk board note. It was totally immaculate and has everything you need for a short or longer stay. We would highly recommend and would happily book again.
