We loved our stay!

We couldn’t have asked for better accommodation. It was comfortable and so well-appointed: we had everything we needed. There was plenty of space for the 5 of us and our 2 dogs absolutely loved the garden. We’d definitely return.

We had the best time at Foresters Cottage.

Everything was absolutely spot on, from the excellent communication with the owner to all the thoughtful little touches throughout the cottage. We genuinely loved everything about our stay. The house itself had everything we could have asked for and more. The owners have clearly put so much thought into making guests feel at home. There was a really useful and informative welcome pack, a very well-stocked kitchen, dog towels and a hose for washing muddy paws, a great selection of books, games and other activities, comfortable garden furniture, and even lanterns we could borrow when walking back after a late dinner at the local pub. The garden was absolutely fantastic too — very safe and secure, with amazing views and so much space for our dogs to run around and play. It was wonderful being able to relax knowing they could enjoy the garden safely. We loved our stay so much that we’ve already booked to come back! Foresters Cottage really is a special place and we can’t wait to return. Thank you again for such a wonderful stay. ❤️

Our second visit to Foresters Cottage.

A very comfortable and spacious property with everything you could need. Importantly, for us the beautifully planted, large garden is very secure and our two small dogs loved running around. Many relaxing hours spent just watching the numerous and varied birds who came to visit. Another enjoyable stay.

Beautiful cottage in a perfect location.

This is our 2nd visit and we will be coming back. The cottage has everything you need and the garden is the best of anywhere we’ve stayed. It is secure for the dog and the birds you see are amazing.

Foresters Cottage was possibly one of the best cottages we have stayed in.

Everything was thought of and the accommodation was both comfortable and spotlessly clean. The location was lovely and quiet with a fantastic and secure garden for our dogs to play in. We loved that bird food had been provided for us to top up the feeders and saw a large range of feathered visitors as a result. Having amazing weather for the week was the icing on the cake.

Beautiful house in a beautiful setting.

So clean and comfortable with everything you could need. We loved watching the birds and hearing the sheep and two minutes down the road was a beautiful cascade of water and a public footpath for a short dog walk. Yes it’s 15 minutes to get out onto the main roads but it’s tranquil. So pleased we found it!

Foresters cottage was amazing everything was thought of by the owners, cottage spotless garden beautiful cleverly planted bushes so you can see the birds feeding right at the window so good I have booked again next year my dog & i cant wait to go back

If we had our own cottage it would be set out and decorated like this one. Lovely, well maintained cottage and garden. Lots of birds to watch at the feeders. All perfect for us. Great location to explore the South Lakes which we don't know very well. We hope to return.

We absolutely loved our stay here, the location of this cottage was just right for us and the local walks close by and accessibility of the lakes was perfect.

The cottage is perfect, all you need for a good family holiday. The garden well maintained and enclosed well enough for our Spaniel who loved it. Look forward to book this again, sadly next year is booked up for our availability so hopefully will visit again in a couple of years. Thank you for a perfect holiday

Perfect cottage for me and my family.

Great amount of outdoor space and close to some great walks. We don’t like the hustle and bustle of towns, so this lovely location was perfect for us. We saw so many birds on the bird feeders and deer in the field opposite too. We liked it so much that we’ve booked again for next summer.

there is everything you could need and more. It is in the most beautiful setting so peaceful, and wait until you see the wildlife herds of deer in the field opposite, woodpeckers outside the window, Muntjac in the garden in the morning it's like being in a safari park

This was a great place to stay , even if a little out of the way .

Very clean and comfortable and well equipped for self catering . The garden and outdoor seating areas were lovely . Having previously always stayed on the opposite side of Windermere it was great to have a very different experience of the area staying in this much quieter spot . We would definitely recommend it.

Foresters cottage was most definitely one of the best self catering cottages we have stayed in .

It was very clean comfortable and so very peaceful. We were lucky to have the most glorious weather .Feeding the birds was lovely great to see the woodpecker. The dogs next door bark a bit but they are small dogs and didn't bother us at all. I miss the view already and would love to return.

We have just returned from our holiday at foresters cottage, the cottage is very comfortable, beds are extremely comfy, the cottage was spotless on arrival and we look forward to a return trip hopefully next year as our son lives in kendal.

We have 2 dogs which enjoyed their stay, lovely touches were the bird food that we topped the feeders on the front lawn, we had a spotted woodpecker and lots of other birds to watch from the living room window. The only thing which I would suggest is in the king bedroom there is no socket by the dressing table so as to use hair dryer, it may be a good idea to have one fitted or an extension need so u can plug in hair drier and use where the mirror is. Other than that everything is perfect, one of the nicest places we have stayed. Thankyou owners of Forresters Cottage. X

Beautiful cottage in a lovely setting,comfortable,clean and warm.

The peace and quiet was only disturbed by next door’s dogs barking almost continuously (not great if you’ve got a re-active dog). Make sure you have milk and bread & essentials to have a drink (nearest shop Newby Bridge service station.) The best cottage we’ve stayed in,definitely would love to come back.

Very lovely week spent at this cottage with family members and 3 dogs.

Garden large and fully enclosed no escaping for our small terriers who can normally find the smallest of escape routes. Accommodation anything you could wish for, comfy furniture and all needs catered for. Slightly disappointed as an email from the owner with key details stated a welcome pack when this was in fact an information pack, consequently no milk to enable you to have a drink after a longest journey and quite a way to shops for essentials, this is of course is incidental and would not stop us booking this property again with the knowledge of what we would need upon arrival. Overall a fabulous place to stay, would very much like to return.

Delightful cottage in a beautiful setting, garden was secure for our dogs and the views from every window were gorgeous.

Loved all the wildlife in the fields opposite and my 81 year old Dad enjoyed watching all the wild birds on the feeder.

We came with high expectations for our 2024 Spring Break, staying for the first time Foresters Cottage, and it didn’t disappoint.

Ticking all our “must have” boxes, not least a generous sized garden, secure and accommodating for our Catalan Sheepdog to range, with the added bonus of Grizedale on our doorstep - out of season and hardly anyone about it felt like our very own bit of Cumbria countryside to roam. We leave this place, for others to enjoy and take away happy memories of our time here. Family Robinson

This is the perfect cottage for dogs that like to let off steam in the garden.

Lovely woodland walks from the doorstep. Sawrey & Hawkshead just a short drive away. There were times when the plumbing made some monstrous sounds (not clear whether ours or next door) but didn’t spoil the stay. Will definitely look to return.

Beautiful home & in a amazing location.

Very well stocked! Everything you would ever need. Very peaceful, with the daily visit from the Pheasant. Very cosy home... Will definitely be returning! Apologies we didn't write in the guestbook, we were in a rush when leaving.

Fantastic cottage, ideal location , the dog loved the garden which was nice and secure.

Enjoyed the local pub , food was fantastic. Will definitely be back at some point.

We had a lovely holiday.

The cottage is beautiful, with everything you could possibly need, including an enclosed garden which my lurcher loved. We didn't leave the cottage much, only to walk the dog and a couple of trips into Hawkshead, choosing instead to take advantage of the garden, to watch the wildlife (including woodpeckers, pheasants, deer) and recharge our batteries in the peace and quiet (and luckily sunshine). Bird food being provided is a lovely touch. Foresters Cottage is a real home from home, beautifully presented and clean. The welcome book gave us all the information we needed. Thank you for a lovely holiday.

Great location, amazing summer garden. Wonderful facilities, so very well equipped! Even toys for the baby to play with etc. Our dogs were well catered for etc Right on the edge of some amazing forest walks. We would definitely come back here. Thank you for a lovely stay.

We had a fabulous week at Forester’s cottage!

If you’re looking for walks and wildlife, the rural location is a dream. We loved watching all the birds in the garden and it was only a short drive to Grizedale forest for fabulous walks. Our whippets, Norman and Rupert, loved the enclosed garden! Thank you for a lovely week

This is a beautiful property in a really peaceful area.

We had an amazing stay. The property is well kept and clearly well loved. Whoever has decorated this property has thought of everything. Our dog loved the enclosed garden and we were so grateful for this as she is a rescue and prone to a good freak out if she spots strangers. Here were our highlights environmentally friendly cleaning products and use of other options if difficult to use for you. Plenty of walking guides including homemade laminated local walks which you can take out with you in the Northern downpours and excellent guest book with clear how to guides local sightseeing suggestions a guide to local wildlife a basket near the front door with towels for muddy paws a box of bird food to replenish the many bird feeders in the garden a box of treats to give your dog. A well equipped kitchen thank you for your slow cooker we used this the day we went up Scafell Pike and were so grateful. Doorstep visits from palmate newts very slow completely harmless and never came in the house and a note from owners to let us know to be mindful of them generous supply of logs for the fire The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated. We really loved the nature themed mugs in the kitchen and paintings in hallways. If you want a property that is somewhere that will allow peace and quiet then this is definitely the one for you. The first night we were there I sat in the garden taking in the peace and quiet and listening to the bird song and along came a young deer who spotted me straight away and went off again. There are also comments in the guest book of others seeing deer in the fields adjoining and across from the property. Would have loved to stay just to chance upon him again. There are also plenty of beautiful little birds in the gardens with tits sparrows woodpeckers and also pheasants that love eating the bird food from the ground underneath the feeders. Overall a lovely stay and we would love to come back next time we come to the Lake District.

We found the property well equipped and clean, one of the best we have stayed in during our breaks in the Lake District.

the property was clean, full of everything you could possibly need.

def gone the extra mile. a beautiful spot with the local waterfall to swim in, the deer across the way and the stunning bird/butterflies made it worth every penny. just need to get shot of the spiders everywhere. seen some soooo huge. I had to hoover through the 3 bedrooms so my daughter would go into her room. lol. Also the wooden bed frame in the bedroom is viscious. I put the pillows & bolster around the end of the bed so my hubby & i didn't keep bashing into the ends.

A beautiful cottage with lots of safe space outdoors for our two dogs to roam around unsupervised.

Shame it rained most of the time so we didn't get to sit out in the garden. Lovely stream with waterfalls just around the corner which the dogs live paddling in.

Quiet area. A big garden for the dogs. The living room was comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed. Nice bedrooms comfortable beds. Added bonus of log fire and lots of wildlife. A great place to stay

Lovely property and location.

Really good collection of evening activities (dvd, games and books). No local shops so definitely need a car for that but walks from the doorstep. good pub 1 mile away. So family and dog friendly

Lovely cosy spacious cottage set in Grizedale forest with many walks in the doorstep.

Secure garden for the dogs. Pub lovely for Sunday lunch although wouldn’t walk there as I think it would be unsafe with all the bends in the road. One thing I would say is that the dogs next door started barking at 6:30 every morning and 23:30 at night. Unfortunately this spoilt relaxation we were looking for.

Absolutely loved this cottage.

Beautiful place and gorgeous gardens. Everything was provided for and the owner left brilliant instructions and guides for everything. Only draw back is that it is remote so although there is a pub maybe 20 minutes walk it’s so dark we didn’t want to risk walking it at night.

Peaceful, clean, tidy, very well equipped and comfortable. Enjoyed the wildlife and seclusion and being able to walk to the forest from our door.

The cottage was warm, cosy and very comfortable.

The large, fully enclosed garden was a huge bonus with a young toddler and a puppy. We had an amazing time.

The cottage was really well equipped for our Christmas stay, everything we needed for cooking Christmas dinner and a lovely festive tree to make it perfect.

The owners were also available if we needed anything. Really helpful visitors guide with walking routes, and lists of local facilities. Would love to stay again!

We had a wonderful stay at Foresters Cottage, and highly recommend it.

The cottage is beautifully decorated and absolutely immaculate. It is clear that much thought has gone into making sure everything you might need is there, without being in any way cluttered. There is a great selection of relevant books and DVDs to this beautiful area including Arthur Ransome and Beatrix Potter which we enjoyed browsing. The garden is big and enclosed and a very relaxing spot to sit out in for us and our dog. It is in a lovely peaceful location with delightful walks from the cottage. We enjoyed a trip on the nearby steam railway. Our toddler successfully hid her much loved otter soft toy whilst we were there. The cleaner found him, and the owner was incredibly helpful and kind about reuniting him with our very happy girl who has been mollified in the interim by explanations that he had enjoyed the holiday so much that he had wanted to stay longer. We wished we could have too!

Exceptionally comfortable beds & lovely homely decor.

A really beautiful place to relax in after exploring the many places of interest in the immediate area. Lots of wildlife round & about the house & garden, which was a real treat to watch and be so close to. Lots of useful bits & bobs were provided for the kitchen & utility & for the dogs which was a very thoughtful touch. Overall it was a very well equipped & comfortable holiday cottage & we had a lovely time there.

We had a fantastic week in this lovely cottage despite the less than summery weather!

The cottage is extremely well equipped - the owners had thought of absolutely everything that a holidaying family with a dog might need and much more besides. It was also spotless when we arrived and that plus the provision of disinfectant wipes, sprays, hand gels etc. made us feel really reassured that we could relax and feel safe in these strange Covid-19 times. The large, well-fenced garden and the many beautiful sheep-free walks from the door were a real bonus with an active vizsla. The main shower is one of the best we've ever had in many years of renting holiday cottages and the hive heating system very effective - we didn't expect to need heating, or the great washer/dryer, in August but Storm Francis made for many wet, windy and muddy walks! The very busy bird feeders provided an unexpected bonus view when sitting cozily inside on the sofa! All in all, a fab cottage that we would happily return to one day!

The cottage was lovely, it was clean, comfy and very well equipped, the garden was beautiful, we thoroughly enjoyed our week there.

It was a great location especially for Grizedale and Coniston where we found lots of activities for our teenagers. The only negative would be the neighbours which I appreciate you do not have any control over. We are lucky to be early risers as the 6am wake up call from next doors dogs was regular as clockwork. I just worry other visitors may not be as understanding. All in all we loved Foresters Cottage and would consider returning.

The cottage was lovely and the position was very handy - you didn't have to drive anywhere for a nice walk - just go into the forest.

The garden was enclosed which was great for the dog. I wish the check out time of 10.00 a.m. was a bit more generous ... we had to strip the beds and pack up and it felt very rushed on our last day particularly as the next person would not check in until after 4 P.M Otherwise it was a lovely stay in a beautiful place.

A lovely cottage with everything you need for a weeks stay.

You can tell the owners have put a lot of thought into making sure everything is ‘just so’, I don’t think there was anything that we needed that couldn’t be found, even down to dishwasher tablets and clingfilm! Great garden with plenty of space for kids, dogs and BBQ. The only downside to this property, which is out of the owners hands, is the next door neighbours barking dogs, morning, noon and night, not great when you're after a week of R&R! This is the only reason we wouldn’t stay at this cottage again, shame really as everything else was brilliant

Christmas in the Lakes.

..whar a wonderful, beautiful place to be at such a special time. Great location for walks, running and exploring nature at it's best. Cosy, comfortable cottage with a feeling of home from home, peace and tranquility with every possible need taken care of. My family an I had the most fabulous festive time, we will definitely be back in the future!

Would certainly book through Sykes again although constant flow of IT material something of a "trial".

As scored the cottage was ideal for us with a suitable range of facilities. a landline for "emergencies" as little mobile signal coverage, plenty of maps and guidebooks especially dog-walks and a good pub in the vicinity. Garden well fenced, kitchen fine for us but a tad small, plenty of roasting dishes/crockery etc. with only a "wonky" toilet seat as a negative.

Excellent base for walking holiday with two dogs.

Access to Grizedale forest only a matter of 400m away. Spectacular waterfalls a similar distance away. The security of an enclosed garden was appreciated by the dogs.

The cottage was situated in a perfect spot for walkers and dog walking.

The cottage was very clean and had every thing that was needed. The information book was excellent with lots of information on the local area and further afield. If you like walking and have a dog I would highly recommend this cottage. 5 stars.

The cottage was warm and comfortable and one of the best equipped we have ever visited.

The garden was the best dog friendly garden we have ever had. The cottage is a great base for exploring the Lake District. The reason for a less than perfect score for 'accuracy of the listing' is that the cottage was advertised as being in Satterthwaite but so far as we could see was actually in Force Mills and the road between the two is quite treacherous for walking.

It’s location is beautiful with Grizedale Forest literally on the doorstep. The cottage was light, warm, comfortable and had everything we needed for a week in the Lake District. It was dog friendly and 3 year old friendly too. It’s location was ideal and we loved the steam train rides from Haverthwaite to Lakeside meeting up with the boat trips across Windermere. Would definitely consider returning

Such a lovely cottage.

We will deffinatly be returning later on in the year or early next year. The dogs loved the garden and the log fire, (although enough wood is provided for 1 to 2 fires we brought our own from home to keep us going the week) such a lovely spot and some nice walks right on the doorstep! Everything is provided making it a home from home. Such a pleasure to of been able to stop in such a lovely place.

brilliant location and cottage for dog owners in the lake district, plenty of off lead walking, accessible 200 metres from cottage, in nearby Grizedale forest.

The cottage was in a lovely peaceful valley away and the owners have done a lovely job with the renovation of the cottage and the garden which was completely dog proof which was essential as we were there in peak lambing season.

We have been to the Lake District several times before and have rented with you before and were impressed with the standard of the rental. We would recommend this cottage to anyone who enjoys being away from the crowds and loves nature and star gazing! Also perfect spot for mountain biking in Grizedale Forest.

The cottage was lovely and everything had been thought of except it was very cold when we arrived, some heat left on low would have been nice.

It took a while to warm up. Also the welcome pack was very miserly we thought - some coffee sachets and sugar, no tea bags or biscuits!!

Great location for walking and visiting the Lakes.

Close to Grizedale so a good biking base as well. Lots of space and a second bathroom was really great. A big group would run out of basic supplies very quickly - so come prepared. Lots of hot water and heating worked well! (Please hammer in the gripper strips on the stairs - snagged our new walking socks :( )

There was a couple of things that could have helped.

I was told there was no freezer when in actual fact there was, also it didn't list there was a dishwasher, but I didn't ask the question on that one. Also we only had enough wood for one day. Other than that we were very satisfied and would return.

The location is wonderful, it was a great stay.

The only feedback I would give is that the cottage is described as having everything needed to support the time away, but we were only left with a few loo rolls and 2 nights worth of wood for the burner. Please be sure to leave more toilet roll for next visitors :) thank you

This cottage is a hidden away gem, fabulous location , very quiet and very very comfortable.

Perfect for a get away from it all break. Plenty to do if you choose to or just relax with a good book and roaring fire.

Foresters cottage is a lovely comfortable place to stay.

..it is more like a home than a holiday cottage...well equipped full kitchen with plenty of crockery and utensils...all rooms comfortably furnished with high end accessories...we all loved being here a real home from home and very dog friendly with a great enclosed garden and lot's of lovely walks direct from the property.. Really hope we get to return very soon

The location was ideal, we could go walking nearby with the dogs without having to drive all the time The cottage was very comfortable, plenty of space, and the dogs loved the large garden We enjoyed looking out and seeing loads of birds coming to feed at the feeders.

The cottage was exactly as advertised and was even better than we had expected.

It was clean and comfortable and every detail was taken care of with ample information and equipment provided. The setting was fantastic with various forest walks available right from the front door, and was a good base for exploring other parts of the Southern Lakes. The local pub was closed more often than open but it was only a short drive to Hawkshead where there were plenty of pubs and restaurants. Overall a great holiday with our two grown up children and dog, and we would have no hesitation recommending this cottage to others.

The cottage was comfortable and met expectations as well as proving a secure outside space for our family dog. Great walks on the doorstep, shops a short drive away. Would recommend that future customers are informed that the local roads are single track with passing places. Would recommend Sykes Cottages to family and friends and would not hesitate using again.
