Larch Cottage at Esthwaite Water

A gem of a cottage set in extensive woodland.

Well furnished and comfortable, and wonderfully situated beside Esthwaite Water, more or less midway between Windermere and Coniston, and handy for Hawkshead. We thoroughly recommend for couples or small families.

We really enjoyed our stay is was above our expectations.

A gem of a cottage with a lovely homely feel, we truly relaxed here !

Secluded and private with woodland walks and the lake shore just across the road, but close enough to Hawkshead for easy access to pubs and shops.

Larch Cottage is perfect in every way.

We had a wonderful week here, with the both the cottage and garden lovely. Location wise it is set on the side of Esthwaite Water, so it is quite secluded but only a mile or so from the village of Hawkshead, and within range of plenty of walking options. We will most definitely return here!

This review is along the same lines as our last review of Larch Cottage back in March - If you need a peaceful, comfortable 'bolt hole' to retreat to after a long day out, well, BOOK IT !

Larch Cottage was the perfect place for our short break.

It was beautifully presented, well equipped and one of the best properties i have stayed in, especially in the Lakes. I would highly recommend this property, the owners attention to detail made the stay perfect.

It would have been nice to have been advised in advance that you would need to buy logs for wood burners before or even have the option to pay extra for a supply as one facility we looked for when choosing a property.

Lovely cottage, ideal location and lots of outside space for our dogs.

The owner was super helpful with lots of information available for the area and contacted us at the commence of our stay to advise that the cottage was available earlier than arrival time etc.

We cannot rate this property highly enough.

From the moment you drive through the gates to entering the cottage it was so welcoming. The cottage was beautiful. Lots of lovely thoughtful touches throughout (including wood for the wood burners and ice in the freezer) and a welcome basket with tea and coffee and little goodies which was very welcome after a long journey. There were family games to play, toys for the doggy and a place for your wellies! The kitchen had everything you needed including cooking utensils, pots and pans, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine/dryer and an air fryer. There was also a hair dryer, towels and ironing board etc. It was very clean. Lovely swing outside and lovely views of the lake. We will definitely be coming back! It was like a home from home. Thank you.

Our stay was incredible!

It was great for exploring but the cottage itself provided us much needed down time surrounded by nature. Just an amazing cottage in a superb location. Will be back for sure.

We had a lovely week at Larch Cottage.

It had everything we needed and is in a great location for some very scenic walks. It is just over the road from Esthwaite Water which our dog enjoyed very much. The garden is lovely and the garden games provided by the owner were very welcome. It is in a peaceful setting and we found it very relaxing. We would love to visit again.

A lovely cottage embedded in surrounding woodland giving it the benefit of seclusion but also ideally located to explore the Lake District.

We treasured the peace and quiet of the property as well as the log fireplaces that were super relaxing after a long day's walk. The owner was friendly and supportive and we appreciated all her efforts to make our stay comfortable and memorable. A great place to unwind!

What a cottage, what a host, what a stay!

Our jaws hit the floor when we first saw inside Larch cottage and its surroundings! Kate couldn’t be a kinder, more approachable host- providing both a warm and welcoming ‘welcome’ to the cottage with her hamper and also being very quick and supportive when we needed anything! Don’t hesitate- one of the best places we’ve stayed before!

Absolutely amazing stay at larch cottage.

We all loved every minute and will definitely be rebooking in the future. Kate messaged us before our arrival and left a lovely welcome pack and her contact details incase we required any help with our stay. The dogs even had treats left for them which was lovely. We wanted for nothing as all was provided. I highly recommend to anyone wanted to stay in the lakes.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Larch Cottage.

We especially loved the peace and quiet, the privacy and the amazing grounds and woodland. The cottage itself was extremely comfortable and cosy and it felt like home in no time at all. Extremely well situated for visiting the beautiful Lake District. Kate, the owner was absolutely lovely, so friendly and helpful via messaging. beautiful cottage in stunning grounds very clean isolated but still close to amenities ideal for family of four owner did not interfere but was available if required and even asked for permission to visit the cottage to repair her own garage door when my two grandsons are older will defo be back we got the weather so made all the difference.

one comment garden furniture could be updated and more comfortable but would not stop me staying again.

Such a beautifully positioned cottage, I'm not sure the pictures do it justice.

We came back feeling utterly relaxed and wishing we'd booked another couple of nights. We don't often return to holiday cottages but I'm hoping Larch cottage will be an exception!

The perfect place to stay in the Lakes.

The cottage is absolutely brilliant, and the surroundings are amazing. Imagine having your own woodland. You don't have to here ... you just have one! complete with camp fire. The kitchen dining room is the heart of the cottage, with everything you need including a fantastic log burner to keep you cozy on those cold February nights. We loved our stay at Larch cottage, and we will be back again! Thanks Kate for being such a brilliant host and sharing this little gem in the heart of the lakes with us.

It's a cozy and comfortable cottage with everything you need to enjoy your stay. Out dogs loved the extensive garden too!

Host is wonderful, contacting before our stay, and sorting anything needed speedily.

Cottage is so well equipped, and very cosy. We had a fab holiday with our 2 dogs. They loved the very big garden, enclosed enough for them to run free while we enjoyed a drink in the February sun! Great cottage in a great location. Will definitely be returning to this one. Xx

Perfect welcoming cottage.

So cosy and comfortable with everything you could possibly need. Very dog friendly. We found it easily even in the dark! Appreciated the messages from owner Kate too. We look forward to returning.

Beautiful cottage .

We felt very at home as soon as we went in. Our 3 Border collie s loved the garden . Will deffo be visiting again .

Hawkeshead Village a short walk away and within easy reach to other Lake District areas. We can't recommend this enough, fabulous place and Kate the owner is extremely helpful. Debbie

Our stay at larch cottage was fabulous, the host thought of everything.

It was really a home from home, beautiful decor and gorgeous surrounding very bliss. Our dogs loved visiting the lake very morning and running around the woodland surrounding the property, we couldn’t have asked for a nicer place to stay or a better host. Kate was lovely! Thanks x

Lovely Cottage in great position, nice touch recieving text msg from Kate the property owner welcoming us to the property plus the milk in fridge and some goddies in the hamper, very quiet location, easy walk into Hawkshead for shops and places to eat, walk to Far Sawrey via Moss Eccles Tarn with meal at Cuckoo Brow also worth the effort.

Beautiful cottage in a lovely location with a super helpful owner.

Not far to walk to Hawkshead or Near Sawrey for a beer and bite to eat. The cottage is cosy and well equipped, has a large garden and it’s own private woodland. Esthwaite Water is right on your doorstep ideal for our dog! Couldn’t have asked for more and would highly recommend. We will definitely be returning.

We loved Larch Cottage from the second we arrived.

The setting is outstanding and the cottage was clean, comfortable and warm. Our Golden retriever just adored the woodland, and I walked him there every morning before we went out for the day. Good boots needed as the going gets rough underfoot the further you go into the woods, but totally worth it! The lake is across the road with direct access to the water. Walks everywhere you look. Recommend How Tarn circular walk. We shall return!

lovely little gem in a beautiful setting, away from the crowds but near enough to facilities.

We enjoyed our stay very much the facilities were like home from home all the things that you need.

The cleannesses was also just how you would expect to walk into. Comfort was also very important to us and it was very spacious. The grounds were lovely and spacious. I would definitely go back for a holiday and would recommend to friends and family. Perfect holiday.

The cottage is homely and welcoming. Lovely views over the garden to Esthwaite Water. We enjoyed lots of walks around the area but would recommend walking to Moss Eccles Tarn We look forward to returning next year.
