“Littlebeck is in a very scenic spot with a very local pub and several others within easy walking distance, however, I suggest that you check opening times.”

The cottage itself is very functional but not the best in terms of comfort. Beds are minimal in size, heating consisting of electric wall heaters is controlled by the owner and surprisingly the log burner really doesn't throw out much heat, some dampnpatches in the bedrooms too, so not cosy. Sitting room area has a small shabby sofa, 2 arm chairs plus a dining table and chairs, so is quite crampt for 2 and would be a squeeze for 4. The small kitchen is, however, well equipped. Functional ...

Functional bathroom with a great power shower, but unfortunately runs out of hot water unless you plan your shower and "boost" the hot water. Over priced for the standard of accommodation provided. Strictly a functional, no frills place, but in a beautiful, if remote location.

“Littlebeck is a delightful cottage.”

Over the two weeks we were there we were no more than 5 miles from a swim in the lakes of Derwent water and Buttermere and the deep clear pools of the nearby streams. The walk from out of the front door through the temperate rainforest along the Derwent River and then up and along the hillside of the Coast to Coast Route is a walk I could do with my dog every day for the rest of my life. There are both iconic and offbeat mountain walks in every direction. What more could you want? The cottage itself was built for slate miners in the 19th Century; it had that cosy and raw feel to it. I like that… :)

“Fantastic location, quiet and peaceful, charming cottage, close to Keswick and access to all the lakes.”

Wi-Fi great too! Small points but no tea towels to dry up, oven glove and no cleaning cloths, dishwasher had no salt or rinse aid so couldn’t use, only staying for two nights so seemed pointless in buying these items, happily would of done so if staying longer! Overall a lovely short break and would recommend

“A great cottage in a superb location with great facilities.”

Hopefully useful feedback is to provide a small amount of tea and coffee, and dishwasher fluid so we could use it ( on the day of leaving, it had to be unloaded and everything washed by hand as we didn't know there weren't any, our fault, we perhaps should have checked first) and or drying up cloths, apologies if both were, but we couldn't find them. As a host myself, I try and provide those little things guests are not likely to remember to, just a small amount to get them through the day. The cottage was clean, tidy, the beds crisp and comfortable and there were superb walks from the door, absolutely lovely place to stay in the Lakes. Highly recommend. Lastly, great pub diner just 10 paces away, couldn't have been handier for that restorative pint after a long day in the hills.

“A nice enough cottage in a great location for walking.”

Our main concern was the heating. The radiators were not on for long enough to keep the place warm. The log burner was okay when we could finally get it working but difficult to keep going every day. However, we were grateful for the use of the oil filled rad provided which we used to keep warm in the evening. Other concerns like the wonky tap in the bathroom and the flaky decor in the back bedroom could easily be fixed. Otherwise, everything good.

As listing says, there's no parking outside. NT car park nearby BUT signs state NO overnight parking. Arrangements for overnight NOT clear and ESSENTIAL. Scribbled note inside cottage pointed us to an option to pay £25 to park in hotel car park. Other than that, we loved the cottage and hope to be back

“The owner was pleasant and responsive to our questions.”

Thank you. The cottage is fine and is in a fantastic location. The following points are noted for their consideration. A strong smelling cleaning product was a bit unpleasant on arrival. We had to open the windows. The house heating was controlled remotely and it was a really cold week. The owner did extend the heating when asked but the front bedroom remained cold. The wood burner was strangely ineffective. The plug-in radiator was useful downstairs. Only 1/4 roll of toilet paper was left. Just enough till the next day. Felt a bit penny pinching. We like to cook - while the kitchen was reasonably well equipped there were no large pasta pans (5 litre). Hope this is useful feedback.

“We enjoyed our stay.”

No real complaints, but some suggestions: Main bedroom table lamp doesn't work, battery powered weighing scales had no batteries in it, no wooded spoons to stir things with without scratching pans, no non-stick pans, no oven gloves, starter kit set of logs were not dried and didn't burn well, no hooks or clothes horse to dry kit on inside the cottage (hooks in porch - but freezing cold in there), plaster falling off walls in a few places. Shower, WiFi and bed were fab. Overall GOOD.

Thank you for your feedback. We have replaced the lamps in the bedrooms so these should now be working. We've also made sure there is a good supply of non-stick pans and wooden spoons. The logs we purchase are kiln dried and kept in an enclosed wood shed so should burn well. The airing cupboard contains a rail with hangars for drying wet kit. There is some minor damage to areas of wallpaper that has occurred over the years. I'm glad you enjoyed the power shower and appreciated the wifi. It was upgraded to fibre to the property recently so is very reliable and very fast. Property Owner

“We stayed for two nights and enjoyed our stay.”

The beds were comfy, the kitchen was well appointed and the shower worked well. We were out and about most of the time and the weather was a bit damp so we didn't use the garden. We used the TV once and didn't encounter any of the problems others have reported. We couldn't find the outside bin to put our rubbish in when we left. As others have said, the parking situation is a bit odd. We used the NT car park. One thing worth noting for non-members is the ticket machie only takes coins - who carries £8 in coins these days? Fortunately, I'm a member of the National Trust for Scotland, and althought the NTS has a different parking scheme from the English NT, I left the NTS sticker on the windscreen and no-one seemed to mind. (Possibly no-one checked). There is a notice on the ticket machine that overnight parking isn't allowed, which is confusing but again no-one seemed to mind. Is there an official agreement with the car park operators that tenants in the village may park overnight? The instructions for the flat mention a parking space across the road: is this just the bit of road that is slightly wider than the rest, because it isn't marked as a parking space the way us city types are used to! There were freshly painted double yellow lines on both sides of the road and I didn't want to chance parking there.

“Cottage in a good location but quite a few issues with it.”

The heating isnt good enough when the weather is cold as the wood burner is very inadequate as back up to the electric heating - it heats the hot water rather than the room. There is nowhere to park free as its now double yellow lines outside the house so non NT members would pay over £60 a week to park in the local car park. When raining the gutter at the rear leaks so there is constant water running down the rear of the house. Could not find the rubbish bin to put away or rubbish and no indication of where it was in details. Television is quite complicated to work I would think if not used to Amazon firesticks. On the positive, the cottage is quite nice, with most things needed to cook with. the double bed was comfy and great for local walks. Wouldnt stay again as I think there will be better ones locally

Thank you for your feedback. I'm sorry that you found the heating inadequate. The heating is on a set programme but we do ask guests to get in touch with us if they would like it on more and we are always very responsive to increasing the heating if required. We are currently waiting for the guttering at the rear of the cottage to be replaced and this should be remedied shortly. Because of the unique location of the cottage parking directly outside can be limited at times, there are signs locally that outline the parking restrictions. The NT car park is only 100 yards from the cottage and a proportion of that charge is reinvested in maintaining footpaths locally which keeps the area a lovely place for walking. Due to the unique location there is no terrestrial TV signal in Seatoller. We have superfast broadband directly to the cottage and rely on Internet TV. We will look at updating the TV instructions to help make it clearer to guests. Property Owner

“Lovely little cottage with great access to the Honister Pass and Western Wainwrights.”

Very clean and comfortable. Could do with some good door mats front and back and more logs and a welcome pack would’ve been the icing on the cake. I’d read some reviews about dodgy parking and a grumpy neighbour but didn’t encounter either. It’s a quiet location but would recommend if you just want a good base for bagging some hills.

“Thank you again for yet another fantastic cottage booked with your company.”

The location was amazing, key was easy to access. On entering the property, it was immaculate, warm and clean. Exactly as it had been advertised. Gorgeous bathroom with a lovely hot shower. Well stocked kitchen with every utensil a professional chef would be proud to use, resulting in some fantastic meals. Very close proximity to the bus stop from Seatoller to Keswick. A quick 3-minute walk down the lane to a local hotel which doubles as a bar for non-residents. perfect location for in good weather some amazing climbs and hikes within walking distance. We encountered no problems with using the National Trust car park literally 50 yards down from the cottage. One negative comment maybe to be reviewed for future guests the television was confusing to access. After 2 days of trying, we finally figured out it was operated via Firestick which required the log in details sited on the TV screen, this was so tiny we would suggest enclosing all the operating instructions including passwords etc within the welcome pack. Could maintenance also fix the guttering to the rear of the property? It is broken resulting in water penetrating the outer wall which will arise to major damp issues over time. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our time, and would return in a heartbeat as we would with the other properties within your portfolio. We look forward to booking with you again very shortly. 10/10 xxxxx

“The cottage is in a beautiful location with amazing views from the garden.”

It says there is parking for one car but it didn’t seem obvious so we parked in the National Trust car park about 50m away as we have National trust membership. But that would cost £8 day per car without national trust membership. The cottage is reasonably kitted out, although the kitchen is a little dated and the sink tap practically ready to fall off. The kettle didn’t work so we resorted to boiling water on the stove. The pretty lower gated garden has amazing views and is the most peaceful place to have breakfast. The patio garden directly off the kitchen is in poor repair and would not suit anyone unsteady on their feet. It would also greatly benefit from some form of weatherproof seating which could be used all year. (We appreciated the table and chairs in the shed for use, but it’s a bit of a faff keep moving them from one garden to the other) All in all we would be happy to come back here and a few minor improvements would make it perfect.

One 'complaint/disappointment' - there was NOT a 'starter kit' for the log burner as indicated in the blurb, just two small logs left. Luckily I had packed a handful of sticks & matches; purchased logs & kindling. 2) Oven gloves would be a useful addition; my son had to run his thumb under the cold tap for ages. Otherwise brilliant, so handy for the bus service and so close to the many mountains; we did 11 Wainwrights in 5 days !

Beds very comfortable! Instructions on using the TV and WiFi would be helpful. We had no problems with lighting the fire, Some guidance on this for other guests might be useful as I saw a review saying they couldn’t light it. We found the property warm enough for chilly nights with the heating and the fire as an option. Also the parking issue needs to be spelled out. We are NT members (so free) but it’s expensive for those who are not. A lovely bolt hole in a lovely spot, we would go again

“Heating inadequate in living room.”

Woodstove impossible to light even with purchased hardwood. Flue may be blocked? Electric/paraffin heater not working. Parking outside cottage, as instructed by you, resulted in notice from community asking us to move the car. First time we have arrived at a holiday let to find absolutely no written instructions or information. Presume there must have been some lapse in arrangements. We would be grateful for a payment to be made through our bank card in recognition of the difficulties we experienced.

“The property was over-priced.”

Not sure if you would normally charge almost £1000 a week for a 2 bedroom cottage in the middle of September, or were just taking advantage of the COVID situation. The cottage was functional but charmless and not at all homely. No soft furnishings in the sitting room. Decor more like a Council house circa 1980 than a 17th century cottage. The amount of fuel provided for the wood-burner was mean. My biggest gripe however is the complete absence of any information on how to work things in the property or any information on the local area. We spent a long time figuring out how to watch the tv, my parents or people less comfortable with technology would have given up. You couldn’t actually watch live TV because the WiFi was too weak, so if the description says there is tv, it is not accurate, we were only able to access on demand tv. For some reason, the radiators are controlled remotely, but, given the absence of any information, we had no idea that was the case and had to message the caretaker having spent ages searching for instructions. It would be better for us to be able to decide for ourselves when we did and did not want the heating on.

Thank you for your feedback and I'm sorry the cottage didn't meet your expectations. Demand is particularly high for the Lake District at the moment and that is reflected in the pricing. Some of our usual soft furnishings like cushions and blankets were removed in line with initial guidance at the start of the pandemic due to concerns about difficulties ensuring these were sanitized between guests. We are looking to reinstate these soon, as things begin to settle down. Unfortunately it looks like there was an issue with the satellite tv during your stay, which our caretaker has highlighted to us. The tv has now been repaired. We always welcome guests reporting issues to us during their stay so that we can fix the problem as quickly as possible. The heating is set to pre-set programme, but we are always willing to adjust this if guests let us know. There is plenty of additional heating in the cottage, which guests can control themselves, including a fan heater in the kitchen, an oil radiator downstairs and the log burner. Property Owner

We struggled to work out the heating, but we didn’t really need it at last. The cottage owners were happy to help. Beds were very comfortable, which was great after a long day walking. The location of this cottage is stunning. It is in the Borrowdale valley, at the bottom of Honister Pass and the scenery is beyond beautiful. If you are a walker then locations don't get better than this! You could stay for months and still not do all the peaks, or low level walks, or tire of the area...it is our favourite place in the Uk. There are so many walks without even needing to use the car. The cottage is peaceful, warm and comfortable with everything we need. A washer/dryer would be a good addition given the wet week we just had! There was previously one and it was very useful in wet weather! We love it here and look forward to our next trip!

The cottage was clean and well equipped and we enjoyed sitting outside in the garden when the weather permitted. We went out walking every day, mostly straight from the front door. One evening we sampled the pizza from the farm opposite which was very tasty.

“This is a lovely little cottage and the location was even better than we expected.”

The cottage itself was cosy and comfortable and a good size for the two of us and our little dog. Seatoller is a beautiful place where you feel right out in the wilderness but with Keswick not too far away. We did plenty of walks from the house (weather permitting!) including Glaramara which was beautiful. We also did an excellent mine tour at Honister slate mine which is just up the road and you get excellent views of Honister Pass which is probably one of the most breathtaking landscapes I’ve seen on our trips around the UK. Would definitely like to come back again!

“We really enjoyed our stay although we were there during there during the pouring rain and 80mph winds of Storm Dennis.”

We all got horribly wet but thanks to the many and very efficient radiators we were able to dry out, and were able to warm up with hot baths and cosy beds. We were there also with a toddler who loved the staircase, his cot, and the view out of the window onto the animals in the farmyard and fields opposite. Having an attractive short cut through to Rosthwaite, and having the hourly bus turn-around only yards from the front door were also a great convenience

“This was our second visit to Littlebeck and we have already booked a third.”

The location of this cottage is unbelievable....so many walks right from the door, close to a huge number of mountains. It is a perfect base for walkers. Seatoller is remote which is why we love it... but Keswick is easily accessible. One small suggestion would be for one or two larger saucepans although we managed easily enough. The cottage was warm and cosy after a day of walking and climbing, and parking was easy in the NT car park. We love it here. The location is really special. Thank you for another great holiday.

“The cottage is in the most perfect location for a walking holiday, right at the bottom of Honister Pass with access to so many stunning walks and moutains.”

Too many for us to do in a week and so we will be coming back. The weather was very wet at times but with the dryer and kitchen heater we were able to get things dry for the next day! It would be useful to have the ability to move the heating from 'summer settings' for those bad weather days but it was still warm enough, and so cosy with the log burner. (Logs can be bought from Seatoller Farm and the farmer very kindly bought them up to the cottage himself in the pouring rain!). This is a remote cottage, but a beautiful drive to Keswick if you need anything so the best of both worlds. Tesco do deliver to the door to make life easy! You can unload the car right at the front door and then park in the NT car park very close by....free for members. This worked well for us. We found the cottage comfortable, and contained everything we needed.....yes the main bed squeaks a lot as someone else noted but it was very comfortable. It is a small cottage for 4 adults and all their walking gear but the location is what sets this cottage apart......Seatoller and the Borrowdale Valley are simply stunning and the walking opportunities are endless. If you love the mountains and just getting out there this is an amazing location.

“A couple of disappointing issues.”

I was unaware of the parking costs having to use the national trust car park at the cost of £7.50 per day. also the tiles behind kitchen sink all bulging off and only third of a toilet roll left for use. No dishcloth for use. Instructions to put out wheelie bin for collection it was more than half full clearly not put out for weeks surely that is the owner or cleaners responsibility. We have booked another cottage in October I hope that will not be so disappointing.

“Littlebeck is perfectly located at the bottom of Honister Pass!”

We enjoyed many walks from the door, as well as walks where we caught the regular bus (77/77A) to our starting point (eg Buttermere). We could easily have filled another week and so are already planning to come back next year! We walked to the pub a Stonethwaite (30 mins) as well as driving over Honister Pass to Buttermere (Fish Inn) and Loweswater (Kirkstile Inn). The cottage was beautiful and as we had a sunny week we spent a relaxing hour after each walk enjoying the garden. The only small improvement would be a new set of saucepans and frying pans - otherwise perfect.

“Brilliant location for walking directly from the cottage.”

Nice and clean on arrival, but a couple of issues that could be rectified. Dishwasher not working, and sign on it looks quite old so may have been broken for a while. Extractor above cooker not working that caused fire alarms to go off when cooking fried breakfast. The bathroom door lock and catch was broken so door did not shut or lock. We did light the log burner 1 evening as it was a bit chilly, but it failed to heat the bedroom radiator like it says it should do. Also I feel the patio and back garden could do with some TLC as they both look neglected and overgrown. Don't get me wrong, we really enjoyed our stay, but we just felt these issues could be easily rectified with a bit of time and effort. The cleaners informed us on the morning of your arrival that the dishwasher wasn’t functioning. The repair company said this was due to a previous guest mistakenly using a laundry tablet - the machine is now working fine. We have replaced the fuse in the extractor fan above the oven and spent this week working to improve the garden now that winter is over. We have checked the bathroom lock and the radiator in the bedroom. Both of which are working. It is worth noting that to heat the radiator in the bedroom from the fire will need to be going for some time, as it needs to warm the water in the system. However, there is an electric radiator in the bedroom if you require additional warmth.

“The holiday cottage was in a brilliant location.”

It was warm and cosy with the wood burner. the cottage was clean and tidy and had stunning views with a stream at the end of the garden. Only bad points I would say was the bed wasn't very comfy just being a memory foam mattress and it's very squeaky. Could do with a stair gate at the bottom of the stairs if you have a dog as I would of brought one with me if I had known. Other than that was really please with this comfy little cottage in an ideal location. Let me know if the bed gets changed and I will book again

Positioned at the rear of the cottage is an enclosed patio area and further lawned area that extends to the beck which flows constantly - a lovely spot to enjoy this magical location.

There are plenty of walks available from the cottage, ranging from gentle footpath pursuits around the walks and through the meadows, to enthralling hikes along the Honsiter Path and up Scafell Pike, making this property ideal for ramblers or cyclists.

Keswick can be reached within an easy drive, boasting several shops and restaurants, along with family attractions such as mini-golf and the Pencil Museum.

The pretty village of Rosthwaite is situated in the Borrowdale area of the stunning Lake District National Park. The village, surrounded by fells and meadows offers a pub, shop and tea room. You’ll be delighted with the location - just driving up the Borrowdale Valley past Lake Derwentwater is sure to please, and once you arrive in Rosthwaite you will be charmed by the traditional Lakeland cottages. Within driving distance is the town of Keswick, which boasts a number of shops and restaurants, along with miniature golf, parks, the Pencil Museum and the famous Theatre by the Lake. With Derwent Water and Honister Pass close by, the village is an ideal base for walkers and cyclists, and is in a superb location to discover all of the Lake District.
