“I want to be able to recommend this property, because it ticks most of the boxes - right in the middle of Staveley village (though if you don't like proximity to traffic, you might find it a bit noisy); a very nice layout, with large kitchen/dining area and decently equipped; a good outside space, if a bit overlooked; and good facilities (smart TV, two woodburners etc) although more books/games and perhaps a welcome pack would have given a more homely feel.”
Two of the bedrooms are good--the master is very nice--while the third struggles to accommodate the double bed. However, our visit was marred at the outset by what sounded like construction work being undertaken next door on the Fri evening and all day Saturday from 8am, accompanied by the doof-doof of dance music. When I contacted Sykes Cottages about the issue on Sat morning, I found them very sympathetic, but it took a follow-up call later in the afternoon to get things resolved. I just have doubts about the soundproofing in the property, which for me is a bit of a deal-breaker. If that sort of thing doesn't bother you, Hugill Cottage is a good choice in the village. Also, I should say that the property had not been cleaned brilliantly well (it was still being readied when we turned up at 4.10pm), and we were left only half a toilet roll, which I found a bit surprising.
We are sorry that you experienced a noise issue, the neighbour did apologise and stopped the work right away. The walls of the cottage are two foot thick, and deal well with day to day noise. The drilling was due to work in the loft which is now complete. Thank you for your comments.
