“We've previously stayed at Stone Cross Mansion.”

The house is set in lovely, well looked after grounds, which guests can walk around plus sit out on the grass or benches and sun loungers. There is also some great games for the kids, including football, badminton, cricket and a putting green. Nearby town is a short walk. The house itself is amazing with some great history. Our apartment was really clean and well appointed with good quality furniture and quality bedding. What really sets this place apart for us are the onsite staff. Alison and Kevin are onsite during the day and are really helpful and friendly. We had a minor issue and both of them went above and beyond to get it sorted for us as quickly as possible. They also helped with local information regarding days out. Great service ! Days out from this location were excellent, both Coniston Lake and Windermere Lake are easy to reach as is the west coast. Would we stay here again.....definitely.

“We've stayed here previously.”

On arrival the apartment was lovely and clean and well appointed. A really nice welcome pack was provided. Nice touch. Stone Cross mansion itself is beautiful inside and out. The grounds are lovely and really well looked after. It's such a peaceful location. Games are provided out on the lawns for children and adults as well as chairs and sunbeds. The town is an easy walk from the house. The onsite staff are so helpful and friendly, always ready to assist with any issues or information as required. Bottom line, would we stay again or recommend this property...... definitely.

“An amazing stay!”

Beautiful house and location is perfect for getting to all the main lakes. We loved the facilities that the house had to offer and would definitely look to rebook! Plenty of space within the apartment for our family of four, the children absolutely loved it!

“An absolutely superb place to stay and everyone was helpful in responding to any queries we may have had about the local area.”

For information only, I would let you know that there was one steak knife missing from the knife block, but we didn't use them anyway. The welcome pack was most helpful too, and we really appreciated the extra welcome items (tea, coffee, biscuits, etc) that were available when we arrived. Thank you very much

“A lovely apartment in a beautiful old mansion house full of character and set in lovely grounds.”

The kitchen had plenty of equipment and facilities, although we found the combined oven/microwave rather difficult to operate and would have preferred a basic microwave. The lounge area was comfortable with a good tv and sofa. Excellent showers and towels/ towel rails in the bathrooms. The beds were comfortable although a bit brighter lighting would be appreciated for reading. Very easy to walk into Ulverston and its excellent gastro pubs and cafes which we know well. Overall an excellent holiday property.

“The visit to the Alfred Suite was truly incredible.”

We loved the gift basket, fresh linens, complementary soap & basic fridge items and we were delighted with the whole cleanliness and freshness of the apartment. “We had a lovely holiday at Stone Cross Mansion.”

The conversion of the building has been done with great sensitivity and care to preserve the historic ambience and architectural details of a building that expresses the values of its age. Designed to be a home, the building still has a sense of welcome and comfort. It celebrates the history of its owners and that of the area that produced the wealth to create it. The apartment was spacious and comfortable although, at 5’2” I could not reach the top shelf of any of the cupboards or the fridge! Fortunately I had a taller daughter with me who could. It was a joy to come ‘home’ at the end of each day and we had a lovely stay. Thank you to everyone who works so hard to keep it looking so wonderful.

“We had a wonderful week's stay at the Alfred Suite.”

The apartment itself is spacious, comfortable, and very well appointed. The grand lobby immaculately presented and stunning. There are a range of amenities on the doorstep, with the town a short stroll away for restaurants, pubs, etc, and an M&S Food and Aldi at the bottom of the driveway. Access to the Lakes is also convenient for activities and the main tourist attractions.

“The Mansion is absolutely stunning and the apartment was very spacious and thoughtfully styled.”

The kitchen was great for us to cook in and we really enjoyed the open plan style. Ulverston is a great base to explore the lakes. Whilst its not centrally in the lakes; the accommodation was some of the most luxurious we have stayed in and very conveniently there were two supermarkets at the end of our road and the town was 5 minute walk. It should be highlighted in the welcome book that the shortcut to town is left out the house and then through the gate in the wall at the end of the cul de sac. Also be warned, the showers are extremely powerful. Not necessarily a bad thing but they take you by surprise!

5 minute walk into town but make sure you ask about the short cut through the gate to your left as you leave the building or you will end up walking the long way down the drive like we did for first three days lol!

The location was great and there’s lots of amenities nearby, with only a 10 min walk into town where’s there’s plenty of choice to eat and drink. We’ll definitely be back soon.

Ulverston is a traditional market town built around a cobbled main street. It boasts a fine selection of independent shops, café’s, and pubs with open fires and real ales. There is an extensive selection of eating places to suit everyone, from fine dining to traditional pub food. Ulverston is also well known as a festival town, with events ranging from flags and walking to art and music festivals throughout the summer months and with the renowned Dickensian Christmas festival in late November. It is the birthplace of Stan Laurel and world record holder of the biggest foam pie fight in the world giving a glimpse into the fun community spirited little town. There are excellent walks around the town and beautiful countryside, with views of the southern Lake District and Morecambe Bay. Home to the deepest, widest and shortest canal, which makes for a lovely afternoon walk with a pub at the end and views over the bay. All of the attractions of the National Park are also easily reached. The Furness Coast boasts sandy beaches and good birdwatching.
