Brilliant holiday let, will definitely be back

Stone Cross Mansion is a hidden gem, finished to the highest standard.

The facilities cater for everyone and we highly recommend it for families. A special mention goes to the huge variety of board games, giant kerplunk and countless outdoor games set in the beautiful garden. Thank you for hosting us!

We stayed over Christmas and had a fabulous time.

The pictures were great but when we got there it was even better than expected. Everything is provided that you could possibly need. We will definitely be returning.

Really excellent apartment.

We had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend the Mabel Suite.

A lovely property, spacious, clean and well designed.

Great kitchen facilities and high quality throughout. Great location, a short walk to the town centre, with Marks and Spencers and Aldi a 10 minute walk away. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the communal areas and garden were in great condition. Having a good sized lift to the top floor (Mable is on the top floor) was very convenient. I would have no hesitation in staying there again.

Our second holiday at Stone Cross and this time a smaller apartment.

We took the Theobald previously which was lovely. The Mabel is just as nice despite having only two bedrooms and one bathroom - plenty of room for three people. Equally well kitted out too with an excellent induction hob, twin ovens, fridge / freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. The apartment is set into the roof so some sloping ceilings along one edge but mainly normal height throughout (be warned if you are tall or not good at bending and you sleep nearest the skylight). Plenty of natural light - views across the gardens - and delightful to hear the rain on the roof (although we only had one day of that - followed by five gloriously sunny autumn days). Never did figure out how to use the huge TV but no loss (too busy reading and walking). Heating is super efficient - needs manual adjustment (seems to automatic settings are ridiculously high at around 22C when 20 is fine) - but quick to warm up at the end of the day, which is good on cooler autumn evenings. Overall excellent. Thank you to the team for making it so good.

Stunning place in beautiful surroundings.

We loved our time in Mabel and look forward to returning in the near future. Received a great welcome on arrival by Alison. She and the rest of the staff keep the place looking immaculate.

We really enjoyed our stay.

It was the first time we have stayed in an apartment and had no problems with noise. The Stone Cross Mansion is really impressive, set in its own grounds and has been modernised in the apartments to a high standard while retaining the character of the entrance hall. We had the Mabel Suite on the second floor which was equipped to a high standard and accessible by a quality lift. There were a range of books and games provided in the entrance hall including a quality pool table and table football. Obtaining food was easy with M and S Food and Aldi just over the road from the bottom of the drive. The centre of Ulverston was only a 5-10 minute walk.

Again a lovely break at your property.

Just want we needed a few days away from life just to relax and get some fresh air. The apartment was as we remembered from last time it was just like walking in our home again. Nice and peaceful as always. Clean comfortable apartment with everything you need in it. We have already booked for next year and can't wait to visit for a third year. You have an amazing property and we really enjoy visiting.

Fantastic location and facilities.

Firstly there is the 'wow' factor of the shared hall and secondly the high spec level of the apartment. We stayed in the Mabel Suite (loft apartment) and it proved to be very comfortable. Having the lift was of great benefit. On a broader scale, Ulverston is a great base from which to experience the southern lakes (Coniston & Windemere) and the locale: Ulverston Canal, Hoad monument and Swathmore Hall.

Beautiful apartment, perfectly clean & tidy with all amenities you need, Perfect location with the town centre, shops, pubs etc just 5 minutes walk away, staff were very helpful and accommodating upon arrival. Cannot Say anything Negative about our weeks holiday & would highly recommend Stone Cross Mansion it is a Beautiful place to stay & a stunning area to Visit. An Absolutely amazing place to stay

An excellent choice.

Perfect for families with children. Safe, secured and clean accommodation with lots of positives. Highly recommended. Will definitely be back again.

Stonecross Mansion provides unique,peaceful,architecturally superior accommodation surrounded by spacious grounds .

Stone Cross Mansion was a wonderful base from which to have our holiday.

Close to the Lakes, lots of amenities, and Ulverston itself is great. The accommodation is clean, spacious, and modern. The outdoor area is lovely. Having the ability to self-cater was very nice, and grocery stores are only a short walk away. I will definitely recommend this to others, and hope to stay there again.

please note that this is a review for The Margaret Suite not The Mabel Suite as our party of 4 were upgraded free of charge on the day of arrival.

The Margaret suite suited us more as it had two bathrooms which suited our party of 2 couples I have to say that the quality of accommodation was outstanding and it was clear to see that the whole building had been refurbished with utmost care and attention to detail. Everything was spotlessly clean and the communications with the owners were also excellent from start to finish. I can honestly say that this was by far the best apartment I have ever stayed in whilst holidaying in the UK and would highly recommend it to others

Great apartment with everything you need.

The sofa was not particularly comfortable unfortunately. The building and grounds are lovely with excellent parking. For information the water from the shower is not held by the shower door, we had to roll a towel up to stop the bathroom floor flooding. Also, the automatic light in the storage cupboard randomly turns on and off for no reason, when the cupboard door is closed and nobody is in the cupboard (you can see the light under the door) You can hear other people leaving their apartments, with doors slamming on auto closers (Mable did not slam, next door most certainly did at 6.15am every morning when the occupier left!) These were only minor inconveniences and despite these we would absolutely stay again if we were in the area.

What a perfect weekend away we had at Stonecross mansion, we couldn't fault anything, Other than we wish we had had a slightly later check out time as 10am on a Sunday morning meant we felt a little rushed, We will definitely be back to stay again.

Property was amazingly clean in both communal areas and the room.

Welcome package, including new years eve champagne and shortbread, was really appreciated and a lovely touch. Everything was great - I can't think of a single improvement and hope to stay again soon.

This place just oozes quality.

Everything you need was there. The welcome pack was fabulous (coffees, teas, hot chocolate, waters, milk, shortbread) wonderful. Will definitely return.

Fantastic holiday for a family with teenagers.

So many family sporting activities on the grounds and lots of space for the family. Would definitely return.

We had a fabulous time and are looking to book again next year, possibly with a bigger group to check out one of the larger apartments.

In the Mabel suite everything was perfect for a group of 2 couples. The place was comfortable and had everything needed for cooking at home. The location is brilliant for walking into Ulverston and to Aldi & M&S at the bottom of the road. Ulverston is a hidden gem. The pubs were fantastic, we went back to both the Farmers and the Mill twice each and had really good quality meals. The town has some lovely arty independent shops and it felt like a lovely community vibe. People are very friendly and chatty up here. We had a lovely walk up to the Hoad monument and enjoyed the windy views. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend stone cross mansions for anyone wanting a stylish, quiet retreat to explore the Lake District from. The shared areas in the mansion are well maintained and we really enjoyed playing pool and ax throwing on the lawn. I would suggest getting some boot scrapers and hard bristle mats near the front door and in the foyer area- given a lot of people will be visiting for hiking/walking holidays. Thanks for a lovely week we hope to come again.

It far exceeded our expectations.

Absolutely stunning building set in lovely grounds with beautiful holiday apartments finished to an incredibly high standard.

It had everything we could possibly need for our week away, including M&S, Aldi and Starbucks at the end of the road! I've only marked overall comfort slightly less than perfect because the bed was very firm, verging on uncomfortable, for my own personal preference but that didn't detract from the otherwise perfect apartment and wonderful week. We will definitely be back!!

We visit the Lake District at least once a year, but don’t normally stay in the South/Peninsula area.

This holiday really revealed the beauty and versatility of the area. The Mabel Suite itself was perfect for the two of us, with fantastic furniture, facilities and standards of cleanliness. We will certainly recommend the property as well as the Sykes holiday company.

Wonderful apartment and location.

Really enjoyed the stay. Lack of information (manuals) for cooker, washing machine, dishwasher and even the kettle caused some inconvenience. The only detail we were given in the apartment welcome pack was how to use the integrated microwave in the top oven. We had to hunt the internet for information or trust to luck for the rest. Would have liked more information on local walks / services
