    “Retired couple with dog.”

We had a great visit to Jane's cottage, loved the situation, cottage spacious and suited us well. Owners friendly and helpful. Track was no issue in our regular car, just approach sensibly. Lovely walk to Tarn How and back via Hawkshead Hill, and Baptist Church with Poustinia in garden. Also Wray castle within walking distance via footpaths. The drive over Hardknott pass was amazing, walked up to Roman Fort & had great view of Scawfell. It was a particularly sunny, clear day, so fitted in a trip to the, vast, beach at Drigg, great for dogs and owners alike.

The property

'Jane's Cottage' makes a beautiful getaway for two in the heart of the countryside.

On a working farm you can get a true feel of being part of the farming community.

The farm is part of environmental stewardship schemes and prioritises nurturing local wildlife alongside its farming activities.

There are plenty of walks from the door, Hawkshead village is only a mile away, where you will find boutique shops, bars and at Far Sawrey, Hill Top, once home to Beatrix Potter. Accommodation: Enter through the courtyard, onto the patio with garden furniture and through the front door into the property.

The kitchen is on the right with a breakfast bar, the open plan living is great for the two of you to relax and unwind.

Keep warm by dining next to the esse log burner, with the comfy seating and Apple TV.

Enjoy the beautiful views from the lounge over the front garden and to the rolling fells beyond.

The bathroom is off the lounge at the bottom of the wooden open plan stairs which take you up to the mezzanine bedroom in the cedars of the loft.

The bathroom is home to a Japanese deep-set bath (not advised for the physically challenged) with two seats and a wet room shower on a mosaic floor with wc and basin. Outside: Janes Cottage is set on a working farm with sheep and horses.

The property over looks the courtyard where these can be regularly seen.

About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
