Plumblands

Oven tins burnt residue in.

Dining table sticky. Very hot in upper bedrooms no fans.No parasol for outside table. Garden patio uncared for. Issue with TV and upper room paint Owner sorted this. Was going to boofor next year same time but price is £500 more !! Not worth the increase so will be looking for alternatives. Shame as lovely location and views.

Lovely house in a beautiful area but the kitchen crockery, glassware, cutlery, chopping boards and utensils were dirty (I have photos if needed) which meant we had to wash them before being able to cook on the first night of our short break.

The showerhead in the upstairs bathroom needs a good clean and hence we didn't use it. We used the shower in the downstairs bathroom and the water ran intermittently from freezing to scalding hot. The garden also looks uncared for with loose stones. The door to the garden had also been left unlocked, which we didn't realise until the next morning. Overall the house needs a little TLC and freshen up. Beds and sofa very comfy.

A traditional Lake District property that is very homely and comfortable.

Unfortunately there was scaffolding around the property when we were there, which did slightly spoil the aesthetics and the ability to use the outside space. Beds very comfortable, lounge/dining area with log burner was lovely! Kitchen and bathrooms could do with an update.

Lovely cottage and great location.

There were 6 adults staying and there was plenty of space, comfortable beds and all the amenities we needed. We loved the outdoor space and the views and would definitely recommend the property. There are plenty of walks to do from the cottage and the local pub is welcoming with good food and beer.

House was lovely and in a great location.

Due to one of the bathrooms being on the ground floor we all used the family bathroom. I think we would have benefited from a larger freezer. As the weather wasn’t great we ate in more than we usually do when we’re in the lakes. Nonetheless we had a great holiday. Thank you so much

Well equipped, clean and beautiful area.

Beds were very comfortable. Lots of storage space to put clothes away. Plenty of dvds, games and lots of channels on TV to relax on evening after a busy day walking. Pub and shop not too far away to walk to. Liked the little welcome touches of dishwasher tablets, hand soap, washing up liquid and toilet roll to start you off on your holiday. Lots of seating in living area. Felt like a home from home rather than a holiday cottage. Even though we didn't use it, it was a good idea to have a washer and clothes airer if needed. Wish we could've stayed longer. Definitely would recommend.

Lovely cosy place.

Ideal location. Beautifully decorated for Christmas which was a wonderful surprise. Only thing that lets it down is the downstairs shower…it goes between scalding hot and cold. This, however, is not a deal breaker as the upstairs shower it’s great. Very well equipped cottage with loads of bird life in the garden. We’ll be back!

My wife and our three girls had a brilliant time at Plumblands.

Great location for accessing all the local mountains and very peaceful in the heart of the lakes which is what we were looking for. The stream at the back was great for the kids and even some november swimming! The house is lovely and we really enjoyed the log burner.

Lovely cottage, wish we could have stayed longer.

Would recommend a couple things - liquid soap dispensers in all sink areas (only one provided for whole property, would have been a nice touch). Main bathroom appears to have some water damage, lino coming up. Cosmetic of course but a premium property would be nice to have that addressed. Nit picking aside - hopefully constructive ! - everything was lovely. Cosy spot, very tranquil, good local pub and walks. Thankyou!

Can't think of anything that would improve it.

The microwave started to spark on our 5th day so tried to report and left a note on the machine.

Damp spots in ceiling appearing in the top bedroom during the rain storms you may need to be aware.Otherwise a fabulous stay in your lovely home

The last time I stayed at Plumlands was 60 years ago when my auntie and uncle Billy and Annie Blockley owned Plumlands.

My siblings and I would go for the 6 weeks summer holidays as my mother had died and my dad still had to work so he sent to his sister my auntie Annie. It was a great time for us swimming in the beck and long walks playing in the quarry opposite where Thrang Brow is now built.The house was a lot different then, but it is a lot cosyer now. Really enjoyed our stay and would really like to come back.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Chapel Stile and at Plumblands.

Overall the cottage perfect for what we needed and a great base. It was comfortable and plenty of space for the 5 of us. There were a few little things that let the cottage down... the garden was quite overgrown and the paths full of weeds which made it quite slippy when wet, the downstairs shower room was dirty on our arrival and there were quite a lot of old cobwebs etc on the walls and ceilings... But overall a fabulous week spent in our happy place

Lovely cottage!

Super cosy, lovely layout, comfy sofas, excellent kitchen and very nice rooms with good beds. Best cottage we've stayed in yet when visiting the Lakes, wish we owned it ourselves! Will hopefully return one day.

Extremely clean, comfortable and well equipped.

Fantastic location!

Excellent location - walks from the door, and the cottage is so convenient next to Wainwrights pub and Co-Op only 6 mins away.

Further relatively flat treks to head of Langdale valley, Skelwith Bridge or across to little Langdale are perfect for lazyier low valley days. Access up to Grassmere Common and Langdale pikes as well as a distant Scafell for higher level walks. Cottage had everything we needed for a perfect stay - Thank you.

Thought it was a lovely venue and ideal location.

Only downsides were there seemed to be a bit of an ant infestation. We have a young daughter and she was crawling around a lot and we noticed a lot of ants on her. It was by the window where the window is located. We had to sweep up the ants in the morning and evening. Expected a bit more from the external area. Its a lovely setting and not really making the best of that. There is an outside table and chairs but it lacks a bit of thought. There is a large patio area with nothing in it and it seems a waste. It was perfect for our weekend. My wife and I did the Fred Whitton Challenge and left my mum and dad with our daughter for the day , however if I was staying longer then I am not sure it would tick the box. The heating didnt work and I was not informed of this. We needed the heating on for the first night as it got chilly but we couldnt do anything about it as there was a big sign on the boiler! The next day was scorching so less of a problem. I would expect to be notified in advance of this.

In a great area needs a bit of love and care ie decoration and garden area.

Great location, lots of walks straight from the door, pub and co-op a short walk away.

The cottage is well laid out and very well furnished, clean and comfortable. Will be booking again and will highly recommend to friends.

Really lovely cottage In beautiful Chapel Stile.

We had some spectacular walks from the doorstep every day- it’s a perfect base. The property was warm and comfortable and well equipped and the views were special. It’s a bit tired around the edges in places and could do with a bit of an uplift but saying that we’d go back in a heart beat. Thank you

We were not informed about ongoing building work which went on for the duration of the holiday and had been for some time.

This work started before 8am each morning including Saturday and Sundays. We were not able to relax, which was the whole purpose of the holiday. Had we known we would have cancelled.

This is the third time we have stayed at Plumblands and always found it welcoming and comfortable.

The views from the rear are magnificent. Be prepared to spend time to feed the birds, the variety is astonishing. There are plenty of walks from the door and there’s usually a pub to visit. The only downside is the garden needs tidying up.

The property could do with some TLC and a thorough deep clean I’m sure if the owners visited they would be disappointed with how the property is looking broken handles, damaged shower head etc.

the outside needs sorting weeds everywhere and the BBQ was unusable Don’t want to sound too critical as this could be a fantastic cottage and a great location but just needs a refresh

It was great to find the standard of this property as high as last year.

Sometimes they can become tired but not a bit of it. We had a great time in a wonderfully relaxing and comfortable home from home.

The cottage itself was very good ,but the garden let's it down ,needs abit of TLC.

Absolutely fantastic place to stay.

Plenty of space, great kitchen, dining room and living room. Very comfy beds. Fantastic outside area/patio and a wonderful location for walks. The only minor problem was the size of the standard under counter fridge in the kitchen which is a little bit small for a family of 6 (but only because we cooked all our meals in the house). Swapping the freezer in the pantry for a fridge or fridge/freezer would have been perfect for us.

The house had everything we needed and was really cosy, which was great given the awful weather we had. The house was lovely and clean and very well equipped. Great location for walks straight from the door and plenty of local pubs for a nice choice of meals out. Lovely stay thank you

A beautiful cottage for our family of 4, can easily sleep another 2 people but Plumblands provided enough space for our kids to have their own rooms.

Plumblands is very comfortable, a home from home really. Everything we needed was available including a Christmas Tree, lights and decorations as we stayed over the holiday period. Large TV, Freeview, Blu-Ray Player and wifi, log burner with log store (kindling, fire lighters available in the nearby Co-operative shop). Kitchen was well equipped with oven, hob, dishwasher, freezer, microwave etc. Don't forget your own salt and pepper!!! Beds are extremely comfortable too! The location of the cottage was ideal, beautiful views out to the back with walking paths a few yards away. Only a 10 minute walk to Elterwater. Bird feeders also in the rear garden with food provided, I spent some time feeding the grouse by hand! Plumblands is a beautiful place to stay, I wish I lived there!

An excellent location with many local walks, good heating topped up with a wood burner and its supplies .

Patio needs a little cleanup, maybe a few hooks over the towel rails to add drying capacity. Plenty of Birdlip including a regular peacock.

Most delightful and comfortable stay.

Especially liked the peacock which called at the back door. Request from my son, may we have some fire irons please?

The cottage is very well appointed in a beautiful, quiet location.

Lovely cottage, beautifully furnished in perfect location.

Only thing I could think place was missing is an outside washing line … but then again it is the lakes! It would have been nice to have known their was a sky box and we could have taken our own sky card

Location is excellent for walking based holiday.

A wonderful property in an excellent location, the view from the back garden is simply awesome.

Ample parking and access. Well equipped and well maintained, very clean. We ate out throughout our stay so didn't make use of the kitchen apart from the kettle and toaster - seems to have everything you'd need though. With a few more mugs we wouldn't have had to run the dishwasher as much. (Washing up on holibobs? Are you crazy?!!) ;) I would definitely fit an extractor in the bathroom. We really enjoyed our stay and would love to return, perhaps next year as there are plenty more fells left to climb.

Great house for walking from and an easy walk to the Wainwright pub.

House has a lovely open living area, very good wifi and fabulous birds on the feeders and great views. Secluded. On the downside, there is no provision for drying 4 or more wet raincoats and boots as the hallway is very small. Could do with more towel rails for wet towels.

What a lovely cottage Plumblands is.

It has the most perfect views and the weather has been fantastic, probably the best weather we have had in the Lakes for a very long time. We have enjoyed our week here and it is such a shame we have to go home. We were fortunate that the cottage was available for the Friday at last minute so we could come a day early due to a last minute trip to Wembley (UTB) Thankfully even though the result didn't go our way it certainly didn't spoil our holiday (not even rain could spoil the Lakes to be fair). Thank you for a lovely stay.
