Winder Barn

We have been to winders barn before and I think it needs a little updating, there was a leak under kitchen floor it was seeping when you emptied sink !

There is afew issues with taps and showers! Love location but did feel it was a little tired! Didn’t stop us having a nice hoilday.

Lovely well equipped holiday cottage on the edge of the Lake District.

Very comfortable with parking available. Great walks from the doorstep.

Great location and property.

Well equipped ( although we would have liked a couple more pans and maybe a casserole dish) that said, we managed well with what was there and have no Complaints. I needed mountain rescue to help me off a fell so having such a nice cottage to be on afterwards made it all so much easier for me

All the wildlife, the walks from the door and views were fantastic!

Great accommodation which had absolutely everything we needed. Best moment was seeing a red squirrel in one of the trees on site. Just fabulous

Owners available next door but no intrusion from them. Nice spacious house with good facilities throughout, three good size bedrooms with comfortable beds My only criticism is that there was no cork screw in the kitchen, which hopefully reflects well on the rest of the property and kept me sober for a night. I recommend !

Winder Barn was a lovely secluded property, located in between Askham and Pooley Bridge with beautiful views all around.

I was a little concerned about the length of the single file track on arrival but once we'd navigated it a couple of times, this wasn't an issue and provided many encounters with nature en route making it a pleasure to drive. Only met one vehicle on the track over the course of the week. The house is well laid out and had everything we needed. They even allowed our dogs on the sofas with our blankets on which meant for the dogs it was like a home from home too. Took a while to work out how to turn lamps on, didn't realise they were connected to the light switches but cosy in the cottage when lit. It was warm enough in the cottage and although we didn't need the gas fire on we did use it occasionally for drying some washing and it felt like having a real fire. Instructions about the middle shower was very useful, easy to follow and worked every time, although we did have a drop in cold water pressure (trickling out) every morning. I think it was everyone showering and possibly impact of water pressure from Kendal Calling being round the corner? We soon got used to this though and it didn't take long to come back properly so wasn't a problem. The dog paddock was great to allow the dogs off the leads although with all the great walks from the house they got plenty of exercise even if they did have to stay on their leads everywhere else. We had a small area at the back of the cottage that we could let them be in which we weren't sure was shared to start with but when we realised it wasn't shared we could get out with a book and let them enjoy the fresh air too or have a sneaky wee in the early hours or last thing at night without having to walk up to the dog paddock. It was a great base for Kendal Calling and not much noise pollution at Winder Barn when you wanted peace and quiet too. Super location for visiting the Lakes, not far at all from Ullswater, some of us walked to Pooley Bridge, Kendal Calling and Askham from the cottage. Penrith isn't far for groceries and petrol etc. Lovely milkshakes from a local farm, this is advertised and bottles in the cottage and well worth a visit. We bought our own bottles and kept returning! Nature encounters were amazing, over the week our family saw a red squirrel, sheep and ponies on the fell above the cottage, numerous rabbits (once they got used to the dogs in the paddock, they'd come out in the field while we were there!), hares, tawny owl (several times on the drive up to the cottage) so many butterflies (even had a new one join us for lunch as its wings dried), pigeons, doves, a variety of song birds, buzzard and a peregrine flying over. All in all a fabulous visit in a well maintained property, beautiful surroundings and we will look forward to returning.

Beautiful location with beautiful views.

Property was perfect for five of us with each bedroom having an ensuite. Well equipped kitchen and very handy having the separate laundry room to dry a few bits of washing. Easy to access walks straight from the property was excellent. Each property has space outside with table and chairs. The dog paddock was really useful, for us a private space to enable us to have a door open and dogs to roam freely would have been better but it was clear on the listing that this was not the case (not an issue just highlighting for future stays). We used the outdoor pool in Askham - this is an excellent facility.

Lovely cottage , had everything we needed , perfect quiet location with easy access to walks on the Fells , our dog loved the dog pen where he could run , just a beautiful place which is why we keep coming back .

We really enjoyed our stay at Winder Barn.

The three ensuite rooms worked very well for my grown up family. We loved being able to walk out onto the fells with amazing views over Ullswater. The owners were very helpful responding quickly to any queries.

What a wonderful place!

Refreshing to find somewhere in a stunning location, perfect for our dogs and us. House was well equipped and very comfortable. Minor issue immediately sorted by the owners. If our dogs could use a computer they’d already have booked a return visit.

We had a lovely stay at this cottage and the dogs loved the paddock for a good run around.

Everything was superb about the location and the the cottage itself very comfortable and warm and cosy. We had some very cold nights but once you lit the gas fire burner in the sitting room you were soon snug. The only downsides was lack of plugs downstairs to charge phones etc you had none as all of them had something in them lights or torches on charge etc and the terrible air leaks in the water system you had to put on the shower tap nothing would come out so you would then run the basin and it soon flowed. It was a knack and we soon got used to it. But otherwise a fantastic place and would return again.

The property is in a fabulous location close to the beautiful village of Askham but with a feeling of wildness with spectacular views.

Staying in November was a risk with the weather but the owners were extremely obliging and Winder Barn was cosy and comfortable. I’ll definitely return and look forward to another glimpse of the wildlife around the cottages.

Fantastic cottage in a quiet peaceful location but close to many hikes and sights.

The cottage is extremely well stocked and comfortable.

We had a very nice time at the cottage, location and view were amazing and we had everything we needed there.

The owner was very co-operative and responsive. He made sure that our stay was perfect. Would highly recommend and will probably visit again myself.

Lovely property.

Everything we needed. Kitchen was very well equipped and everything was easy to use. Loved the fenced off area for the dog with the dog bin and even bags!! Lovely and quiet, just right for a relaxing break. Lots of things to do nearby, e.g., Pooley Bridge and Lowther Castle, with a lovely friendly shop in the village. Would have no hesitation in recommending Winder Barn and will certainly be back for another stay

Very clean and a beautiful area

We’ve just come back from a lovely stay at Winder Barn.

It was extremely clean and had everything you would need whilst away. There was plenty of space for 4 adults, 1 child and 2 dogs. Our 3 year old loved waking up each day seeing red squirrels on the feeder. The dog walking field was very handy and the views in all directions from the Barn were beautiful. It was the perfect base for visiting The Lakes and we would definitely recommend.

We all had a wonderful stay at the cottage, it was just as described.

Would definitely recommend and would be returning here!
