“Cottage was as expected, location in the centre was excellent.”
The cottage is advertised with private parking, it does have private parking but accessing the space and getting out of the back alleyway is virtually impossible. The other cottages that share the back lane parking area block in the space allocated for this cottage. We ended up having to ask people to move cars so we could get in / out, after being stuck for a day as the people next door had gone out blocking us in we gave up and opted for street parking. There is a parking permit for the property but best of luck finding a space. We ended up parking circa 1 mile from the property as the street and paid parking were always full. Advertising this with a private parking space is a real stretch, had we known the situation with the parking we would have booked another cottage. If you don't need parking then the cottage is fine, if you do need parking that is accessible at all times, i would recommend thinking twice.
Sorrry to read you had such a negative experience at our cottage. Clearly not for you!
We are lucky with our cottage as it does have private parking - very few do - and access by competent drivers is not difficult as tradesmen with big vans manage it without a problem.
However, in high season when it is busy occupants of the cottages that have parking in the yard need to have consideration for others and that is usually the case. We visit at varying times throughout the year and have never had a problem such as yours. We feel you were very unlucky with your experience which possibly could have been avoided with a polite word with the neighbour.
Basically, if you want perfect parking you probably need to be out of town. It's a bit of a 'trade-off' as the merits of being in the town are that all amenities such as shops, station, pubs, etc are on the doorstep yet the cottage is in a very quiet location.
