We had a lovely week. We did have a problem figuring out how to use the hob but that was our only issue. We will definitely be booking again and the biscuits, crisps and bubbles we a lovely touch,thankyou.

“The cottage was lovely and warm when we arrived at the cottage.”

We were given clear instructions for heating etc prior to arrival and instructions for appliances were inside the TV cabinet. We read the visitor guide and walked down through the little wooded track listening to the birdsong. The view at the edge of the lake is well worth the leisurely 10 mins stroll down from the car park.

“This is a recently thoughtfully and tastefully renovated and equipped apartment done to a high standard.”

The location is on a steep slope in the grounds of an old manor and is one of about 15 attached apartments, in 2 rows, with this one on the top row. The grounds and properties are well maintained and there is a splendid view across the Lake. My wife has some mobility issues and the parking area is some 50 m down the slope, making for a few challenges. However , the quality of the accommodation more than makes up for this. Thoroughly recommend.

“The cottage was warm, cosy and spotlessly clean.”

Lovely and modern with very clean lines. The bed was comfortable and the shower was brilliant. The kitchen was very well equipped and a bottle of prosecco was very much appreciated. Everything was explained clearly both before we arrived and at the cottage. The location is great for walking access to other places. Can't fault anything we had a really restful weekend. Thank you.

One small criticism, I would have liked to have control of the heating during the nights when it was only 3°C outside.

Thank you for your feedback. It's good to hear that overall, you were happy with the cottage and its facilities. We’re sorry however, that on this occasion you were disappointed with the lack of overnight heating in the cottage. The electric radiators and towel rail are pre-programmed for the comfort of our guests. They come on at 7am and remain on all day until 10pm (bedroom and bathroom) and 11pm (living room). During the day the temperature can be adjusted. Unfortunately, the menu and programming functions on the radiators are complicated and it is not really feasible to allow guests to adjust the programming themselves - previous guests have managed to turn the radiators to settings which mean that they are effectively disabled and no longer heat up. The instruction sheet for the heating does state that I have remote access to the radiator controls and if you email me I can adjust timings etc. We have found that most guests are happy with the heating being off overnight, however if you visit us again I will happily adjust the programming for the week. “Wow fabulous cottage for two!”

Beautiful views and setting, also very easy to find in addition it’s very central for visiting all the sights. The cottage is very modern/comfortable and had everything you could possibly want. We arrived to an immaculately clean place smelling wonderful and a great touch of a welcoming pack containing milk, Prosecco, biscuits and crisps waiting for us. Hand soap provided in the kitchen and bathroom along with washing up liquid, tea towels, bathroom towels and bedding already on the bed. Also there was a really good hairdryer, which I wasn’t expecting to be available. I would have liked a recycling bin to go along side the general waste bin, and there is no washing machine but these are minor issues. Lovely walk down to the Jetty and shore area which was a great place to sit and watch what was happening on the lake. As others have said there is a very steep incline up to the cottage from the parking area / rubbish area. This was slippery in the wet so you had to be careful. There are some lovely walks from the cottage if you don’t want to drive or get the bus. The Windermere museum is just down the road, where we enjoyed a lovely lunch and a trip on lake on one of their restored boats. We will definitely be back to stay at Ginger & Pickles! “Lovely property, wonderful location just as described.”

There was everything we could have needed; the furnishings and contents were all of a high standard and it was a wonderful base for us exploring the central lakes area. An added bonus was the easy access to the buses, greatly recommended to save the hassle and cost of parking in Grasmere and Keswick. The one thing to note ( it is mentioned in the property description) is the parking space down the hill from the property. If you are considerate of others, it is possible to unload at the end of the terrace then move into your parking space. Quiet, well furnished and a wonderful location...we loved it. Thank you.

“Absolutely loved staying here!”

Such a wonderful base for exploring the Lake District. It was so wonderful to come back from hikes to such a gorgeous, relaxing, modern, cosy cottage. On arrival the place was so clean, bathroom smelt fresh and clean. There was some milk and a bottle of Prosecco left in the fridge for us and some snacks by the tv. Very thoughtful and welcoming. Big windows that let the light into the living space. The place had a lovely, thoughtful design and layout to it. The Kitchen provided everything we needed so we could cook for ourselves. So much thought and detail has gone in to creating this lovely cottage. Thank you so much for providing us with such a beautiful place to stay. I really hope to be able to stay here again.

“The cottage is in a quiet area with amazing views and wildlife in the grounds.”

It is a short walk to windermere village . The cottage is compact but very comfortable and a perfect base for a lake district holiday. We were very grateful for the little extras provided by the owner. Only down side for us is that it is not dog friendly and we normally bring our dog with us.

“An outstanding base for a wonderful week exploring the lakes.”

The accommodation is just perfect for a couple, it is a modern, newly refurbished place, equipped with all you will ever need. Also, just so quiet, and peaceful with great views of the lake. In terms of location for Windermere and Bowness, both perfectly accessible on foot but as others have mentioned, busses from the main road take you all over for a mere couple of pounds, much cheaper than all that parking.

“This is the perfect cottage for two!”

It really does have everything. The fixtures and fittings are all top notch, comfortable bed and sofa, great shower etc, absolutely nothing missing from the kitchen. The grounds are very well tended and lovely to walk around. You can walk into Windermere for supplies or eating/drinking out. The bus stops at the top of the main road will take you anywhere in the central lakes, no need to drive unless you want to. All this and the view of the lake and jetty access just puts a "Cherry on top"

“This is a beautiful property.”

It was very clean and had everything (and more) that we needed for our stay. A stunning view of Windermere Lake from the front window. It is in a lovely quiet location with well kept grassy areas and a short stroll to the private jetty. It's location was also very convenient to allow us to explore the area whether by walking or by car. We would definitely recommend this property to family and friends.

“We really enjoyed our stay at Ginger & Pickles.”

It’s just been refurbished so everything is brand new. The kitchen is well equipped and we enjoyed cooking and eating at the cottage most nights, though we did eat in Windermere a couple of times as it’s close enough to walk. The location of the cottage is great. There are loads of good walks in the area. The best thing for us though, was the lake access; meaning we were able to launch our inflatable paddle boards from the jetty. We will definitely be back!

The property

This fabulous single-storey, mid-terraced cottage, which bears the name of one of Beatrix Potter's lesser-known books, is located in an elevated setting within the grounds of the former Priory Hotel and is just a short stroll from Windermere town's numerous bars and eateries. Ginger & Pickles is the ideal starting point for a couple looking to explore this stunning location because it offers lake views, private parking, shared grounds, and exclusive lake access for residents. In the modern, open-plan living room, which includes a fully-equipped kitchen, a dining table for two with views of the lake, and a comfortable lounge area where you can unwind in front of the smart TV after a long day, feel at home. As the sun sets over Windermere, you can unwind with a glass of cold wine at the bistro table in front of the cottage. When it's time to sleep, you'll find a stylish, king-sized bedroom with storage, a private bathroom with a shower, and a window through which, if you're lucky, you might be able to see a roe deer in the nearby bushes. A private track leads you to the beach area and jetty from the cottage. If you have a paddleboard or canoe that is light enough to carry the 400 metres to the lakefront, you may sit here and watch the swans and steamers pass by or you can get in the water. There are numerous excellent treks that can be taken directly from the cottage door; Orrest Head stands out for its breathtaking views of the lake and adjacent fells. The Langdale Pikes, Helm Crag, the Fairfield Horseshoe, and Scafell Pike are just a few of the iconic Lakeland fell hikes that are conveniently accessible by vehicle for avid hikers. The region is home to a number of well-known attractions such Lake Cruises, The World of Beatrix Potter, Dove Cottage (William Wordsworth's Lakeland residence), and other National Trust buildings like Wray Castle, Townend, and Hill Top. If you're looking for a getaway for two or a base for action and adventure, Ginger & Pickles won't let you down.

The twin towns of Bowness and Windermere are both vibrant, fun-filled places set within the splendid scenery of the Lake District. Both towns provide a range of amenities, shops and restaurants to suit all tastes whilst Ambleside offers the additional attraction of a boat ride to Bowness, the Lakeside Aquarium and Beatrix Potter's 'Hill Top House' at Sawrey. Grizedale Forest Park is within easy driving distance and is home to a range of activities including many good walks, mountain biking and the 'Go Ape' adventure park.
