Windermere has an abundance of water sports facilities with access to Lake Windermere, and guests can also try out wild swimming or take a boat cruise along the lake. Windermere is close to many other wonderful villages, including Bowness-on-Windermere and Ambleside. Visit the Ambleside Roman Fort, or head out into the stunning scenery right on your doorstep and take a walk through one of the many sites, including Orrest Head Viewpoint.
Visit many of the other lakes, including Coniston Water, or hike or mountain bike the trails through The Old Man of Coniston, Scafell Pike, Red Screes, and birdwatching at The RSPB at Haweswater. Grizedale Forest Park is within easy driving distance and is home to a range of activities including many good walks, mountain biking and the 'Go Ape' adventure park. The region also boasts many National Trust properties as well as a variety of water sports for those who prefer a more adrenaline-fuelled trip.
