“Delighted to stay in this little gem of a property tucked quietly away in a part of the lakes which is not packed with tourists.”

We visited for a walking trip and it gives great, immediate access, to some of the North, West and North Western of Wainwright’s fells. We found the nearby Armathwaite Hall hotel, which welcomes non residents, and enjoyed a beautiful stroll in its grounds and around the shore of Bassenthwaite, after a delicious cream tea. The property appears to be newly kitted out with tasteful and comfortable fittings and furnishings throughout and the kitchen is amply supplied with high quality, easy to use, appliances which really enhanced the enjoyment of our stay. There was lots of information provided on places to go and things to do with helpful maps and walking books. I have stayed in Skye’s cottage’s before and was delighted that this met with the quality I’d expect from their accommodation. Thank you for such a lovely stay, I can’t wait to return!

About the location

MARYPORT

Cockermouth 7 miles; Keswick 20 miles.

Maryport entered the history books nearly 2000 years ago when the Romans arrived, and has continued to flourish to this day. The town boasts a fine deep water harbour and modern marina, a bustling shopping centre, the new Wave Centre, links golf course, beautiful Georgian houses, award-winning Lake District Coast Aquarium, Maritime Museum and the Senhouse Roman Museum. The Solway Coast is a superb area for walking and cycling along the Cumbria Coastal Way running right along the coastline, and excellent birdwatching opportunities are also available. Within a short drive are the many attractions and glorious landscape of the Lake District, while the Solway Firth is just a stone’s throw. The dramatic coastal route south to Ravenglass and beyond is one of the more scenic and peaceful journeys in the UK, while to the north, Carlisle, Northumbria and the borders of Scotland are just a short drive. The nearby market town of Cockermouth is famous as the birthplace of both William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian (of Mutiny on the Bounty fame) with Wordsworth's Georgian family home now a popular visitor attraction owned by the National Trust. An historic area, with beautiful scenery and superb walking in the northern lakes around Bassenthwaite Lake, Ennerdale Water, Crummock Water, Buttermere, Loweswater, Wast Water and Derwent Water.
