“The accommodation was clean and was well equipped.”

The beds were comfortable and showers good. The welcome treats and milk in the fridge was very much appreciated and the owner very helpful. The house was in a good location, being next to river was relaxing and useful being a few minutes walk from Lidl and Sainsbury’s. Parking outside was a bit tight but the owner had a pass so we could use a nearby car park over the bridge which was easier than driving down the narrow road when not unpacking. There was a clothes airer but a washing line outside would have been useful as would coat hooks by the door. The third floor en-suite bedroom was lovely, especially when you could hear the river with the window open, but the stairs were very steep and each stair was small so you had to be very careful using them. There was major building work going on next door beginning from 745 am being very noisy and meant we couldn’t use the outdoor space or dry washing outside and we were overlooked by builders when in the kitchen in the morning. I appreciate this was out of the owners control but made our stay less relaxing. The house was in a good location for visiting places in the northern Lake District being 20 minutes drive from Keswick.

About the location

COCKERMOUTH

Bassenthwaite Lake 7 miles; Keswick 13 miles.

The small country market town of Cockermouth is situated in the quiet north-western part of the Lake District, a largely undiscovered and unspoilt area, yet only 13 miles from Keswick. The town is famous as the birthplace of both William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian (of Mutiny on the Bounty fame) and Wordsworth’s Georgian family home, on the main street, is now a popular visitor attraction, owned by the National Trust. Cockermouth offers a good variety of shops, pubs and places to eat, but (of course) the main attraction of the area is the beautiful scenery and excellent walking in the northern lakes – Bassenthwaite Lake, Ennerdale Water and Derwent Water.
