    “We - an inter-generational family group of 9 - had an absolutely super week staying at White Gables.”

    The house is really impressive - several times during the week one or other of us would comment on how perfect it was. It is very spacious with lovely, attractively decorated bedrooms, very well equipped kitchen/dining area and such a comfortable lounge area. It was so easy to just relax into the house from the beginning of our stay. It was lovely having seating outside the French windows as well as a large grassy area, which was ideal for football games!     The house is really impressive - several times during the week one or other of us would comment on how perfect it was. It is very spacious with lovely, attractively decorated bedrooms, very well equipped kitchen/dining area and such a comfortable lounge area. It was so easy to just relax into the house from the beginning of our stay. It was lovely having seating outside the French windows as well as a large grassy area, which was ideal for football games! The house is decorated and furnished to a high standard - I really liked the upcycled furniture in the double bedroom I was in - and there were lots of attractive little touches that made the rooms more interesting and attractive. The lounge area had three long sofas with lots of cushions and some throws and was an ideal space in which to chill out and to play crazy games! There was ample parking and the directions we were sent beforehand were very helpful. We thought the house was in a great position - off the beaten track but within easy reach of the Western Lakes, Cockermouth, Keswick etc. Cheryl was really helpful if we needed anything but never intrusive in any way. It was clear she and Colin have put lots of thought into making the house somewhere very special in which to stay - and they have succeeded! We can't recommend it highly enough - it's brilliant!

GREAT CLIFTON

Cockermouth 5 miles; Bassenthwaite Lake 15 miles; Keswick 18 miles.

The small country village of Great Clifton is in the borough of Allerdale, just five miles from Cockermouth on the western fringes of the Lake District National Park. Great Clifton has a thriving community centred round the village pub, with the area largely undiscovered and unspoilt. The countryside offers dramatic panoramic views across this constantly changing landscape to the Loweswater valley and mountains beyond, including the imposing Melbreak. The nearby rugged coastline of the Solway Firth is within a short drive and the dramatic coastal route south to Ravenglass and beyond is one of the more scenic and peaceful journeys in the UK. The nearby market town of Cockermouth is famous as the birthplace of both William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian (of Mutiny on the Bounty fame) with Wordsworth's Georgian family home, on the main street, now a popular visitor attraction, owned by the National Trust. Cockermouth boasts a variety of shops, pubs and places to eat, with the area renowned for the beautiful scenery and superb walking in the northern lakes around Bassenthwaite Lake, Ennerdale Water and Derwent Water.
