Nuthatch

This was our second visit to Nuthatch.

A lovely clean cottage and lovely hosts. They are at the farm if needed but respected our privacy. Everything we needed was available. The area is wonderful with easy access to the Lakes and mountains, Solway coast and Eden Valley. We will be back!

Loved our stay at Nuthatch which is on a farm in lovely surroundings with far reaching views.

The cottage was lovely & warm, very clean & cosy with a lovely little patio garden surrounded by lovely shrubs, colourful acers & clematis. Very comfortable bed & bathroom with bath & shower & really hot water. We didn’t need to contact the owners but knew they were close by if needed. A thoughtful welcome pack on arrival. Well situated for visiting the lakes & Northumberland. We’ll certainly rebook if we’re ever visiting this area again in the future.

considering it is a working dairy farm so peacefull and quiet. kitchen was well equiped with all that you need. bed comfortable, lovely shower. hopefully we will return for another visit soon.

Great value cottage in a great location for travelling about. Small compact garden. Warm and cosy. Lovely bath and hot water. Ideally suited to shorter stays. Plenty of parking outside the door. Very peaceful at night. Will definitely be back again. If you prefer a bigger property the owners have a lovely cottage next door called woodpecker.

This is a lovely little property set on a working farm, very peaceful and out of the way.

We had very little disturbance. The property has everything you need for just one or two of you plus pooch! The under floor heating is lovely, especially for the winter. It’s a great location and only a short drive to the A66… would definitely stay again!

Just right for a few days chill , beautiful quiet area away from it all but Carlise easily reached by car .

The nuthatch cottage was the perfect place for us and our dogs during the bonfire period, hardly a sound in sight and the cottage itself was extremely comfortable and comforting to our needs our puppies loved the place that much they didn't want to leave thank you for our wonderful stay ❤️

We had a lovely stay at the Nuthatch.

Peaceful and tranquil. The rooms were warm and cozy, and we especially loved the underfloor heating. The kitchen was well equipped. The pots and pans we used were all nice and clean. Great to see that there was also cooking oil, salt and pepper, and a compact dish drainer. Great bath with an easy to use shower. Lovely, big chest of drawers for clothes etc in the bedroom & also extra pillows and blankets. The Nuthatch, while being situated on a beautiful farm, also proved to be a great base for exploring. Aira Force, Gowbarrow Fell, Penrith, Lowther Castle- we managed to pack quite a few places in such a short time. Overall, we had a wonderful experience

Had a lovely bank holiday weekend here.

The cottage is very well stocked with everything you could possibly need. Its cosy whilst still being spacious. Plenty of places within an easy drive for walks and meals out and all the facilities you want meals in too. Lovely big bath (for soaking after the long walks). The only slight negative we can think of is the mattress is extremely firm, maybe a topper would help. That said we slept well and would recommend and love go back.

Cottage clean ,cosy and peaceful location .

Generous welcome pack provided .Owners lived near & left instructions to contact them if anything extra required or any problems.I didn’t need to as everything was perfect but nice to have that offer.My only criticism would be that there isn’t much room to move in the bathroom .I am small but taller ,bigger folk would struggle with accessing sink .

Lovely cottage on a working dairy farm.

Very peaceful and we took our little dog which was not a problem as loads of walks just outside of cottage he loved it . Very friendly host he made time to chat to us even though he was busy. We will book again as very close to lakes and west Cumbria and we would like to see the cows being milked. Wished we booked for full week.

Lovely little cottage with everything that you need.

A wooden spoon would be useful. Very peaceful. Looks like there could have been some lovely walks but my husband doesn't have great mobility. Would definitely book again.

Hosts were very accommodating and found it generally a serene environment. The welcome package was delightful too.

Wonderful location and property.

Perfect place to get some peace and quiet away from the normal stresses of life! Really thoughtful welcoming touches - tea, coffee, wine, biscuits, milk etc. Though we did not see the owners we knew that they were nearby if we needed them. The accommodation was very cosy, the reclining chair was extra comfy and the shower was perfect! No complaints at all would happily recommend to friends and family.

A great little cottage, ideal for 2.

Took our 2 dogs and they loved it too. Very clean and well equipped. Need a car to get around the area but you do most places. Would highly recommend

I absolutely loved my short stay at Nuthatch - thank you for providing such a lovely clean and comfortable place for my little dog and I to stay while I was working in nearby Carlisle.

I was a fairly invisible guest due to work, but while I didn't get to see the hosts, they had clearly taken great care in making Nuthatch the perfect little place to stay. So peaceful, super clean, had everything I could have needed, and a million times better than being confined to a bedroom in a Carlisle hotel. I'm sure we'll be back next time I'm asked to work in the area, and hopefully I'll get to see more of the farm next time. Thank you again :)

Lovely cottage in a very peaceful location.

Everything was very nice comfy chair, sofa and bed. Spotlessly clean. Nice outside area for dog and walks nearby.

Clean, comfortable and well equipped - we had everything what we needed.

The place is very peaceful, but still we've managed to explore Lake District and visit the most interesting places like Honister Slate Mine, Keswick, Windermere, St Bees and Carlisle. It's a working farm, but we couldn't really hear any noise. The owners are very friendly and helpful. The bed is comfy and having a hot bath after long walks is a bonus

Lovley little place on a lovley farm.

Good Location to explore the lake district and north pennines. Very clean and very homely little place it has everything anybody would need although we like our own space and not to be bothered it would have been nice to have a conversation with the owner as we did have a few questions but we didn't see them at all. I would definitely recommend this place as a romantic get away with 2 big dogs.

Lovely cottage.

Compact but with everything we needed. On a farm but didn’t hear any noise at all and the farmer let us watch the cows being milked and explained everything that was going on - lovely guy. Some really nice places to eat locally. Nice walks. Location good.

Chair in lounge was so uncomfortable, think it's had its day.Great shower and kitchen facilities separate fridge and freezer ,comfy bed what more do you need, great pub in Dalston had 2 meals there. secure garden for dogs.really quite to say it's a working farm (we heard nothing).would go on a return visit.

This cottage is more spacious than it looks from pictures .

Spotlessly clean and comfortable with everything you need . Well stocked kitchen that you could easily cook and serve a full meal . Welcome items left by owner were very appreciated . Nice that the owners are happy to let you watch and explain jobs that occur on a farm eg: milking .

We had a wonderful stay in Nuthatch, the property was very clean and comfortable and had everything we could possibly need.

The views and location are perfect. The added bonus was the walks from the doorstep and being able to let the dogs have a good run in the fields which they really enjoyed! We enjoyed the enclosed garden listening to beautiful birdsong and managed to sit outside with the sun shining on several occasions! Thank you so much.

We had a wonderful holiday at Nuthatch, it was exactly what we wanted ( warm, comfortable and peaceful).

It was a great base and we enjoyed trips to Lowther castle, St Bee's and Maryport on the coast and Keswick. We would highly recommend it and the host was extremely nice.

We found this cottage excellent clean well stocked heating under floor was excellent easy to control the owners were very helpful my wife was taken I’ll ambulance was called the owners offered to us we could stay at no cost if we had to stay longer would stay there again we hope we can next year

The Nuthatch was a lovely property with every amenity available.

Location was stunning and very relaxing well worth exploring to see the sculptures and animals. This location was also as an ideal base to explore the surrounding countryside and towns. Would highly recommend a stay at the Nuthatch.

As you walk through the garden gate you feel the relaxed atmosphere that the garden and cottage has to offer.

The cottage had everything we needed for our stay. Enough room for 2 adults and our two dogs. The welcome pack was a very thoughtful gesture and very pleasing. Plenty of birds singing while you sit, drinking in the garden. Visited by a hedgehog and watching the deers run around the field is delightful too. We will be looking to book again soon.

Meg, the dog, and I had a lovely peaceful couple of days at High Head Castle Farm.

Nuthatch cottage is super with a small enclosed garden so Meg couldn't wander off and had lots of visiting birds. The facilities are great; comfy bed, large bathroom, plenty of hanging space, kitchen with everything you would need (even a separate freezer and a dish washer!) and a nice touch of a welcome gift of goodies which included a bottle of wine chilling in the fridge :-). We could have happily stayed longer if we'd had the time.

Accommodation was as described and perfect for those with dogs. Welcome goodies were very much appreciated. Owner left us to our own devices but was available if needed. Truly isolated and peaceful. I would definitely return

I appreciated the welcome pack. The kitchen is very well equipped. The sofa and bed were really comfy. Pretty garden with a small patio area to enjoy a drink in the sunshine.

Accommodation fully fulfills expectation for a budget but completely equipped and clean cottage that hosts 2 adults with pets.

Both comfortable and tidy with all the essentials. Peaceful and great situation to explore the Lakes and Hadrians Wall. Thinking of 're booking so we can try the Log burner in the Autumn !

A great place to unwind - the cottage is cosy and snug with everything you need.

We never used the log burner as the underfloor heating was more than enough to keep the place warm. The enclosed garden is small and charming and our dog loved sitting outside while we supervised him. A great hidden bolt hole to destress and relax.

The cottage was superb so clean so warm and comfortable , Mrs Stamper who is a lovely friendly lady had thought of everything and i mean everything, even a welcome pack of goodies and a lovely bottle of wine greeted us .

Our 2 girls (dogs) loved it aswell . We loved the peace and quiet we slept so well in the comfortable bed , such a relaxing break for us even lovely walks. We definitely want to go back ASAP .

Everything you would need from a week away from he was provided.

Nice to have access to Hoover/cleaning products so as to not leave dog hair to build up over the week. With it being a dog friendly cottage it was also fantastic having the small enclosed garden area too. The shower was great having really good water pressure. The log burner with a supply of logs, kindling and firelighters was brilliant also, even though the cottage is plenty hot enough without it. They literally have thought about everything.

We had a lovely week at Nuthatch - a small but perfectly formed place to spend our week.

It’s a great rural setting on the dairy farm with local walks plus not too far to travel to get to towns or the Lakes. Really well equipped and very comfortable; we’d definitely recommend Nuthatch. Thank you!

Lovely stay at this cosy cottage.

Very clean and well equipped, comfy bed and great bath/shower. Peaceful, rural location but with easy access to the popular Lake District areas and Carlisle.

This property is beautiful and just what we were looking for.

The cottage was perfect for us and our pets with everything we needed. The location was great with lovely walks round the property and only a 20 minute drive either way to Penrith or Carlisle and the owner was very friendly and accommodating.

So warm, cosy and comfortable. Can't fault anything at all. Extremely well equipped i even had everything i needed to cook a full Christmas dinner! And thank you for the generous welcome goodies waiting for me. A great place to stay :)

The underfloor heating meant we didn’t need to use the log burner it was very warm and cosy. I had the best nights sleep. Great base. Lovely farm. Would definitely go back. Owners left a welcome package of wine, milk, biscuits much appreciated.

This is a hidden gem, if you are fancying a getaway from hustle and bustle of city life and looking for a peaceful and cosy holiday this is the perfect spot .

Located on the farm, which gives you a chance to see the milking of the cows. If you have a dog there are some very nice walks, the cottage is really cosy has a small patio and place to sit and you can let your dog free in that area. Under floor heating and fireplace makes it more cosy and warm. The owners are really nice , proactive and hospitable. They even arranged laundry for us. They left cookies ,bottle of wine and fruits in the cottage before we arrived. The cottage has supply of warm water all the time. Clean n big bath, dishwasher is available too . Its not far from penrith town center or carlisle town center , its in the perfect spot. If you love animals it will be an amazing experience to interact with them that close.

The working farm is set in beautiful rolling pastures.

The accommodation was clean and comfortable for ourselves and our two dogs, with enclosed garden for the dogs to run around safely. The farm family were happy for us to roam with our two dogs (while naturally observing the country code and ensuring our dogs were under control at all times). The farm is ideally placed to explore the lakes, Carlisle, Dumfries and the coast. There are good local dog friendly pubs in Dalston, Calthwaite and further afield Newton Arlosh. Recommended.

The owners had left a lovely welcome pack. They were also very friendly and helpful. Beautiful views and lovely walks on the farm. It is surprising quiet to say they have 160 dairy cows. You can watch the cows being milked. They also have goats. The cottages have a playground for children. Theses cottages suit both couples and families. There is something for everyone. I would highly recommend

Everything you need there for a holiday or short break

Myself and my partner (and 2 dogs) stayed here at the end of October as a last minute get away.

Arriving to a bottle of wine, fresh fruit, chocolate cookies and milk was a fantastic touch after a 2 hour drive! The cottage was beautifully clean, warm and homely throughout our stay. And the owner(s) couldn’t do enough for us throughout, despite following COVID-19 measures. It was a brilliant experience to stay on a working dairy farm and such welcoming, pleasant farmers. It is a great base to drive to many fells, lakes and dog walks and there are 3 lovely walks around the farm. There are dog walks from the farm however we didn’t experience these due to the wet weather. After long, wet day’s walking our dogs it was great to dry off in front of a log burner, with heated floor and enjoying a ginormous bath! There are plenty of pubs nearby if you don’t mind driving but being tucked away in a little cottage, with a self-sufficient kitchen was all we needed. I will be recommending to me family and friends and will certainly come back soon! Such great value for money.

This is one of the most peaceful farms I have ever visited, despite 150 cows being milked twice a day.

We were not disturbed by any of the activities taking place on the farm. The location is ideal for visiting the Lake District, Pennines, Northumberland and even southern Scotland. Very reasonably priced and considerably cheaper than accommodation available in the Lake District which is only a 40 minute drive away. The accommodation is clean and comfortable, with everything that you need for either a weekend or longer stay. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definately book it again.

The welcome pack of milk , wine , fruit etc was a nice touch. And there was plenty of cleaning products / wipes / sanitizer etc -the cottage was clean and fresh on arrival - The area was very nice for walking our dogs. The cows were very friendly ! The only one thing if we had to make a suggestion would be please change the pillows on the bed as they were quite uncomfortable.. the mattress very soft however this is an individual preference and not a deal breaker! We would visit the area again as we love to visit the lakes and Surrounding areas frequently. The enclosed garden is great for the dogs and the views nice.

The cottage was absolutely delightful.

It was clean, homely and had everything you could need for your stay. A lovely welcome pack was left and the only thing missing was the opportunity to say thank you in person due to Covid. We would most definitely recommend!

The cottage was beautiful and in a lovely, peaceful setting.

Ideal for people wanting to relax, and walk dogs. The only one thing we would mention is that there is not much room to cook if you enjoy it. Because it was cold and wet we took enough shopping to last the week, but only one smallish, low cupboard to store it. Apart from that, the cottage is well furnished, very warm, lovely bathroom. Nice welcome pack including wine, milk, fruit and biscuits. Thank you.

The owners and their family are so friendly and helpful, nothing too much trouble. Lovely animals.

Cottage was clean and comfortable.

It was quite remote and extremely quiet but that suited us. Because of the location there was a lot of driving involved to reach any of the areas that we wanted to visit but it was good to return to the cottage after a busy day and just relax.

You are in a perfect location: for those who want to visit the Lakes you aren't too far away; Scotland's just up the road; Carlisle is in spitten distance; so is Hadrian's Wall.

There are good walks round about and you provide maps for the adventurous. I've had a wonderful holiday. Thank you

This was a very warm holiday home.

Very convenient to visit Lake District areas, Hadrians Wall, Beatrix Potter Hilltop and museums, and Gretna green.

My wife and I spent a week at nuthatch cottage in April with our pet dog Harvey and enjoyed it so much we spent another week there in September.

It was a lovely comfortable welcoming holiday. On both occasions there was a bottle of wine and a carton of milk in the fridge ready for us getting there, a lovely gesture. The surrounding views from the cottage where beautiful , and so easy getting to the lakes and Scotland. So much to do and go. We have booked to go to their other cottage woodpecker next April . The accommodation exceeded our expectations.

The cottage was clean and very well looked after. The welcome pack of milk,tea, coffee, fruit and a bottle of wine was a very nice touch. We met the owner once and was she very friendly. There is a lovely walk down into a secluded valley which has some modern sculptures in it. This is right outside the door. Although this is a working dairy farm it in no way intrudes on the holiday experience. We would highly recommend it as a base for exploring the lakes.

It stated on the details about this cottage that it had wifi.

wifi was very very limited. The owners did state on a welcome sheet that it was down to an issue with BT due to being too far from the exchange. Although the cottage was only for 2 people the fridge provide could have been bigger as you couldn't store much food and you ad to go to the shop more often. Where the cottage was situated, which was on a farm there was a lot of flies. There was fly spray provided but that wasn't enough to get rid of them. Maybe a fly zapper could be fitted? The cottage itself was situated in most quiet of places and so peaceful. I would consider going back as this was the main reason for picking it.

Had a fantastic few days in the middle of nowhere with the wife and dogs during the May Bank Holiday weekend heatwave.

Was a good opportunity to recharge the batteries, switch off and take in the local Lake District scenery. Highly recommended and will return again if the chance arises. Thanks to all involved.

The cottage was really lovely, it was a cold day when we arrived and the cottage was really warm and cosy.

The welcome pack was really appreciated as was the Christmas tree. The bed was extremely comfortable and we slept well, the bathroom was really clean and the shower was really efficient. The heating worked so well we were too hot and had to turn it off. We had our two dogs with us and appreciated the fenced garden, and they loved the walks around the cottage. All in all a fantastic break.

Perfect location, even in November.

Lovely cottage where owners had thought of everything to make you feel welcome and the stay enjoyable. Arrived late in terrible weather but once inside it was warm and cosy and the bottle of wine waiting in the fridge was very much appreciated

This is just a wonderful little cottage, we waited a couple of years before we could book, very popular cottage, but we made it and we were not in any way disappointed, just very glad that we kept trying because it was worth the wait.

Nuthatch was very clean and comfortable with fantastic walk`s set in beautiful countryside all within easy reach of the Lake district, Hadrian`s wall and Vindolanda.

We enjoyed are holiday very much and will go again.

The cottage is absolutely lovely very well equipped extremely clean only downfall a dishwasher but no washing machine you could use the farm washing machine but don't really want to lug your washing about.

A dishwasher isn't really necessary for two people not enough crockery to appreciate it. Otherwise everything was great. Lovely walks great location for getting to other places ie the lakes, Gretna green, Hadrians Wall so many places to visit.

Nuthatch is a lovely cottage,well equipped and with a pretty private garden.

The cottage is tiny but perfect for two people.The owners live in the farmhouse next door and are very welcoming and helpful.The location is very peaceful and the area has some lovely places to visit.It's just out of the Lakes,so the roads are much quieter.There are good places to eat within easy reach.Nuthatch is the perfect place to escape from the pressures of life.
