Description

Keswick 7.1 miles. Ashness, a charming one-bedroom cottage in Bassenthwaite, is located near Keswick in Cumbria. Ashness enjoys a fabulous location, nestled in the Lake District National Park and just a short distance from Bassenthwaite Lake, making it a wonderful pet-friendly home for a couple seeking a retreat in the Lakes.

Be welcomed into the sitting room, where you can kick-back and relax in front of the crackling woodburning stove, sure to be your pooches favourite spot, as you watch your favourite show on the Smart TV.

The bright and airy kitchen, with a dishwasher, is the perfect place to prepare delicious meals, ready to enjoy at the dining table over a bottle of wine as you recount the days adventures.

Additionally, the home has a tiny, private back patio with a bike storage shed. There is a washing machine in a cupboard in the hallway of the home, so there is no need to bring your whole wardrobe away with you.

Make time for yourself after a long day of hiking by relaxing in the roll-top bath or freshening up in the overhead shower. As your eyes grow heavy, retire to the sumptuous king-size bedroom to catch your rest. The Sun Inn, which is just a short walk away, is a great place to relax with a tasty meal and refuel after a long day of sightseeing.

Just moment’s away from Ashness is Bassenthwaite Lake National Nature Reserve, where you can go on leisurely walks to see the local animals or take to the water in a boat, paddleboard, or kayak. Around the lake, you'll find the Alpacaly Ever After attractions, which include the Lake District Distillery, the Dubwath Silver Meadows Nature Reserve, the Lake District Wildlife Park, and the renowned Mirehouse and Gardens.

You can also meet the local alpacas and grab a drink at the distillery. Enjoy the Keswick Museum, the Derwent Pencil Museum, and the neighbouring Derwent Island and House National Trust location. Skiddaw Peak, a 931-metre mountain just a few miles away, offers breath-taking views from its summit. Continue on to Ullswater, where the National Trust site of Aira Force and Ullswater or the nearby peaks of Helvellyn and St. Sunday Crag, both of which are worth the hike for their vistas, await you. Visit the ancient house of the great poet William Wordsworth in Grasmere before continuing to Ambleside, where you can explore the interesting ruins of a Roman fort. Consider making a detour to Windermere to take advantage of the many water activities, scenic vistas from Orrest Head and Queen Adelaide's Hill, and the Beatrix Potter World.

Ashness is the perfect starting point for your journey to the Lake District.

Spacious rooms, lovely cozy living room with log burner, very responsive hosts, well equipped kitchen, well placed in the Lakes for exploring, friendly people in the village and pub.

Slight damp in the bedroom but it's being tackled with a dehumidifier which is appreciated. Radio and books appreciated for a cozy relaxing stay.
