The Tower

This property and the grounds of Kirklington Hall and Gardens were a little bit of heaven.

Such a unique and glorious setting, we couldn't have asked for more. The cafe on the grounds and the beautiful gardens meant that we were able to happily base ourselves at our home from home during the hottest hours of the heatwave. The Tower with its solid stone build, open plan layout, tall ceilings and mezzanine bedroom enabled us to stay cool at the hottest June period on record. Being so close to Scotland, Hadrians Wall and the Northern Lakes, make this a superb spot for exploring amazing landscapes and heritage. We immediately booked to stay again! .

What a gem of a place Kirklinton Hall and Gardens is.

From the moment you arrive and see this imposing derelict building, you are transported back in time. You can imagine yourself enjoying a country house party. The owner George was around explaining the works carried out and currently underway. WOW what an achievement

Incredible holiday cottage!

Such a hidden gem and we look forward to seeing the popularity of this place grow in the future. The grounds are truly breathtaking and as a guest, you get the opportunity to roam after hours when the garden visitors have left (not that there were ungodly amounts of people anyway). The property itself was really nicely finished and the bedroom was very luxurious. We loved cooking in the gorgeous kitchen and simply enjoyed every minute of it! Would happily return again in the future.

We had a super stay at The TOWER, a quirky and really interesting holiday location.

The owners were very friendly, and the house itself was cosy and perfect for two people. The bed was really comfortable and good quality bedding and toiletries were provided, as well as a very pallatable bottle of wine. It was lovely to sit out in the evening sun and admire the grounds and ruins of Kirklinton Hall. The area itself, close to Hadrian's Wall and the Solway Firth, was fascinating, and we spent time walking in the North Lake, which was only 20 miles away.

A second visit to the beautiful and tranquil tower a year apart.

Such a comfortable and special space, feels very cosy and private and set within a breathtaking setting of the ruins of Kirklinton Hall. Great base for touring the Solway Coast, Hadrians Wall and Keilder but also lovely to just stay put and enjoy the peace. Easy to access the property and the kitchen is well equipped, the bed so comfy and the shower has real power. Can't wait to return next year and spend time in this unique setting.

Comfortable and warm with everything you need.

Slight difficulty getting the key back into the key-box when we left. Hope the cafe will be open next time we go.... Will & Emma

We really needed a few days just to relax before returning home from visiting family and we had a lovely time at the cottage.

The gardens and the Hall were all beautiful and it would be nice to return at a different time of year to see the gardens again. We would like to have had an afternoon tea but hadn't realised we could until we had to leave so we will definitely come back to try one. The whole place had a lovely relaxing atmosphere.

In an absolutely unique setting, The Tower is a cosy retreat, within the remains of a once stately home which offers all the peace & quiet one could want.

The underfloor heating downstairs was very effective & the furnishings & bed were very comfortable. It would make a perfect base for anyone wanting to explore the border region & is less than half an hour from the nearest substantial sections of Hadrian’s Wall. Thoroughly recommended.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay , the tower was amazing comfortable ,spotlessly clean, modern top spec fittings throughout .

The old building was an inspired blend of old and new . A thoughtful welcome basket was waiting us on arrival . The gardens and hall itself were beautiful . Can’t wait to see it fully restored . The history of the hall itself is an interesting read . All this led to what we were looking for a peaceful , relaxing , calming break in unique surroundings thank you we will definitely return x

This is a wonderful place for cycling, friendly hosts and the roses are as gorgeous as in the photos.

I also really liked the quality of bedding, soaps and carpet. The tap water is good too, not as soft as where I am but tasted nice. It's in the welcome guidance book but not here online that there is no / very patchy mobile signal, I think wifi is through starlink? So most people with a smartphone will be fine. And I did get signal better from one windowsill, texts came through ok. If I were to visit again I'd try and call ahead with Susan's Farm Shop for local food or find a local market day. But Houghton Garden Centre has everything you could need, including local honey. Tourist Info at Carlisle were helpful.

Wow, what can I say about The Tower?

It is absolutely stunning and decorated to such a high standard with so much thoughtfulness put into everything. Comfort and the feeling of being spoilt was the whole atmosphere, from the incredibly warm welcome to the luxury welcome basket and ridiculously comfortable furnishings throughout. Not only that, but it is the perfect base to explore everywhere from across the border into Scotland, Hadrians Wall, North Penines and the Lake District. So much history at Kirklinton Hall and Gardens and so much history in the surrounding areas. I will 100% be back and would recommend to anyone without hesitation. Thank you for such a fantastic week.
