    “Generally as listed.”

However there is a backboiler on the log burner which isn't advised in the details. If people are aware of this they can keep the log burner on and this will heat the normal water filled radiators to boost the heat in the cottage. The cleanliness needs more attention to detail, cigarette ends on the floor and mat outside the main entrance. A dehumidifier on landing full of water and overflowing onto carpet. The cleanliness needs more attention to detail, cigarette ends on the floor and mat outside the main entrance. A dehumidifier on landing full of water and overflowing onto carpet. The plastic skirting in bathroom not cleaned recently. Personally I feel it is absolutely diabolical to ask guests to strip beds and bag up laundry ( cleaners job) never done this ever in a hotel b&b or airbnb, and this is part of the service you pay for.The shower runs hot and cold during use if you run it on hot. These are my opinions and I'm not here just complaining

Dear Neil, Thank you for your feedback. Regarding the backboiler on the log burner: the 'Heating' chapter of the Guests Booklet at the cottage states: ''Note: hot water radiators linked to the stove are still present in the cottage. When the stove is on and the fire well established, the water in the radiators will heat automatically. This alternative heating system is a historic feature of the cottage. It is still serviceable but only works when the fire is really well established. We would not advise you to rely on it for central heating. Of course you can light the stove for your pleasure''. Standard of cleaning: I am surprised about the cigarettes ends outside the front porch, as the cleaners are generally very thorough. The cottage is strictly non-smoking, but a previous guest, or a contractor, must have been smoking outside, which I cannot prevent. But I will mention the issue to the cleaners and ask to monitor going forward. The cottage will be closed from the 9th to the 13th of January 2025 for additional cleaning. The doormat will be replaced. The Guest Booklet contains instructions for guests on the simple steps for emptying the dehumidifier water tank. In any case, when the tank is full, the device should switch off automatically so, thank you again for reporting the issue. I will check it. It's not uncommon in the UK for holiday lets to ask guests to strip the beds when checking out. This can help cleaning staff streamline their cleaning process, especially in busy areas such as the Lake District, where cleaners have to deal with frequent bookings and traffic when travelling between properties. Also allows to offer guests more convenient check-in and check-out times and keep letting prices low. You are the first guest raising this issue since we started the business. We will keep monitoring guests feedback and, if we see that the practice is really disliked, we will re-consider it. But, in that case, letting prices may go up slightly. Also I will have the shower immediately checked. The lack of hot water was never reported before so, again, thank you very much for your valuable feedback. Property Owner

About the location

PENRUDDOCK

Keswick 11 miles; Penrith 6 miles.

The charming old village of Penruddock sits in a secluded position in the northern Lake District between Keswick and Penrith, and just four miles from Ullswater. The village is spread out amongst beautiful rolling countryside and wonderful scenery and is made up of a number of farm dwellings, traditional Lakeland homes and two churches. Penruddock originated in Celtic times, with the name derived from Pen, a Celtic name for 'hill' and 'rhuddawc' meaning red in Welsh to reflect the reddish brown colour of the soil found in the area. Nearby, the popular town of Keswick is the holiday centre of the north of the Lake District and has plenty to offer, boasting numerous shops and restaurants to suit all tastes, as well as offering miniature golf, some good parks, the Theatre by the Lake, a charming cinema and the beautiful lake. Penruddock provides easy access to the spectacular surrounding Cumbrian countryside which can be explored by both car and on foot, and with the southern Lakes, Eden Valley, Solway Coast and Hadrian's Wall all within easy motoring distance this great location has plenty to see and do for all the family.
