Sycamore Cottage

Lovely quiet cottage with great facilities.

Was really pleased to find a coffee machine with plenty of capsules, huge choice of toiletries, milk, eggs, and delicious marmalade and chutney. Bath was fabulous (shower is not good, but I wasn't using it!). Made to feel very welcome and plenty of information about things to do and see.

We loved our stay at Sycamore cottage.

it was quiet and surrounded by nature. we particularly loved the views and the garden. Seeing a red squirrel & wood peckers outside the window was a bonus. there is a road that runs outside the front but it was fairly quiet as the location is remote. all the facilities were great and being an upside down house the bedroom was lovely and cool in the very hot weather. the kitchen had everything you would need, plus a few nice extra touches. our host were very friendly nothing was too much trouble. it is perfect for two people. its very well located for things to do in all directions, just a few miles from the lovely village of Hawes that had good amenities if you are into your walking there are walks in every direction, sadly for us we couldn't get out as it was just to hot - but never mind it gives us an excuse to return to the area again thank you so much for your hospitality we just have 1 suggestion I think the bed mattress is tired, it could do with a topper or renewal it wasn't terrible but we could have been more comfortable during the night which is really important on a holiday.

The location is great for touring the Lakes and Dales national parks.

The kitchen had everything we needed, bedroom was lovely ,good not to have to carry our suitcases upstairs. Lovely welcome tray of cake etc and fresh free range eggs. Free wi-fi and Sky tv.The owners are lovely people and we thank them for a most enjoyable stay ! We will come back ,Darren & Di

The furnishings were good and as described.

We received a warm welcome and were given eggs, cake, cookies, and homemade jam. However, there are a few points that might be of interest to future tenants. The house is located directly on a secondary road. This isn't apparent in the photos, but dogs should be kept on a leash before leaving the house to prevent them from running into the street. The washing machine is located in a shed next to the house. It smells very strongly of solvents, so you wouldn't want to hang your laundry there. The biggest drawback, however, is the shower, which only produces a weak trickle of water with no pressure. Showering is not enjoyable under these circumstances. Another issue is the heating system's exhaust pipe, which exits directly at the living room window. This means that exhaust fumes are drawn directly into the apartment when airing out the room. On the other hand, the fenced garden is a great feature, although we unfortunately couldn't use it due to the weather. However, it would be ideal for dog owners.

Very well equipped and beautiful welcome package including of fresh eggs and cake.

The cottage is quaint and dated.

But it is clean, tidy and comfortable. It's the perfect country retreat. For us, it was a child free weekend away. And it was the perfect hide away for that.

We were made to feel welcome as soon as we arrived, an amazing and cosy cottage with every need met.

Such lovely touches...fresh eggs in the fridge, slice of cake for your first cuppa, and a warm cosy bed! Having an upstairs living area gives amazing views, and the location gives a perfect base for a great week in the Dales. Highly recommend this accommodation.

Very friendly hosts and much appreciated welcome pack. The cottage was clean and well equipped and had everything we needed. Plenty of walks from the door and great views from the cottage. We had a lovely week here.

Best equipped cottage we have ever been to. Would highly recommend it. We enjoyed our stay and the peaceful setting. Close to both Yorkshire and the south lakes. Ps marmalade was so tasty.

Cottage was spotless and very comfortable.

We were left milk;eggs and marmalade (homemade ) plus some cake for cuppa on arrival . Alison and Andrew were available if needed but not intrusive. We couldn’t fault our hol (apart from the weather which was out of everyone’s control lol ) we would def visit again

Had a lovely relaxing stay.

A snack was even provided on arrival, also milk and eggs in fridge. Cottage was warm and cosy with lovely views. Bed and bedding very comfortable. Lovely area for walking and a big bonus the Settle to Carlisle railway can be seen. A real treat seeing Sir Nigel Gresley come down the line. Nice shops at Hawes to visit. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Had a lovely stay ,a little wet and windy but the cottage was warm and comfortable.

The owners Alison and Andrew were really nice,with tea,cakes and biscuits ready for our arrival.

Very friendly and hospitable hosts Every little detail was taken into account with the little gem being the added extras that are put into our stay to make us feel welcome and want to come back.

The cottage and the setting was nice.

The only issue was the shower, the welcome pack was lovely including marvelous eggs and gorgeous marmalade. Unfortunately during our week the weather was frightful and Hawes was being dug up so we didn't get the full experience. That was no fault of the owners though just our bad luck

great little property the owner had thought of everything you might need.

some nice little extras left out for our arrival she had even boiled the kettle for us; it was in a good location for us as we were walking the local mountains, would definitely return.

Lovely cottage, clean, welcoming, and had a lovely feeling to it.

The owners/neighbours were very friendly and gave great advice about the local area and its interesting history. Had the best nights sleep there. Great base for exploring the dales and being able to come back again to a quiet, homely space. The only real downside was the shower head which didn't really produce much water, personally I didn't really mind as I was only there to hike and rest and there is a bath to use. Really enjoyed my stay and would recommend. A stunning part of the country to be in.

Generally we enjoyed our stay, very comfy.

The owners are very generous, in supplying lots of toiletries, never seen so many,they have thought off everything. Plus gave us a lovely jar of homemade marmalade, cakes , milk and eggs to start with. Our only gripe was the shower, it was just a slow trickle,could do with a new shower altogether or more pressure. Nothing was too much trouble, if we needed to know anything. The cottage is in a great position for getting out and about.

Brilliantly cosy cottage with absolutely everything you could need and more.

A well equipped kitchen, bathroom with spare toiletries, tasty treats and, reclining sofa and chairs. Gorgeous views, including of the many birds that visit the feeders. We had a very restful Christmas, some lovely walks (even snow) and relaxing in the cottage. Thank you, Alison and Andrew.

We opened the door and felt right at home, everything was very clean and welcoming biscuits and cake on the table with milk in the fridge and tea and coffee ready to make.

We really enjoyed our stay here, tho all hell came Friday night as the storms hit with driving snow and then the loss of the electricity we made a run for home, with one hell of a trip home. We would be very happy to go back again.

We booked Sycamore Cottage for 1 week.

The owners live next door to the cottage and are very friendly and helpful. The cottage is in a beautiful and relaxing area and is very homely and well equipped. The nearest supermarkets are in Hawes (6 miles) and Sedburgh (11 miles), so make sure you take any provisions you need. The owners very kindly left 6 fresh eggs, a pint of milk, tea, coffee, biscuits and some cake. The nearest pub is only ¾ mile away and serves food all day. We didn’t get the chance to go there as we either made our own meals at the cottage or ate out in the villages that we visited each day. There are plenty of footpaths available to go walking directly from the cottage. Alternatively, a short drive to the surrounding areas provides many opportunities to go walking, cycling and swimming under waterfalls. A very enjoyable week indeed, and would definitely return for another holiday.

Hosts we perfect and very helpful. very comfortable cottage, the bed was a little hard for my liking, but everyone is different. We can recommend their free range eggs, absolutely delicious. would defo stay here again.

Nice cosy cottage with good views with good walks available from the doorstep.

Despite being on a B road still peaceful as few cars. Garden peaceful to relax in after a days walking.Hosts very helpful and provide some basic essentials and more. Lovely peaceful location and no real problem being 6 miles away from nearest shop. Will definitely visit again.

Excellent hosts provided us with eggs, coffee, tea, milk and toiletries to start us off and some cake on arrival which was a lovely touch.

Would suggest people bring groceries with them as it's a good 20 minutes to the nearest place to buy any basics. Definitely a good base to explore the Dales would stay again.

place needs an update with bathroom. shower useless. no pressure. cottage smelt of wet dog. wonderful wildlife seen from the window and great views. shame really.

The cottage was an ideal getaway.

Great location for walking and birdwatching. Hawes only 6 miles away and the famous book town of Sedbergh is 12 miles away. The hosts were welcoming and friendly. No wonder guests return time and again. the kitchen is very well equipped with everything you are likely to need. The hosts provided a welcome tea tray and welcome pack of marmalade,milk, eggs,biscuits, tea and coffee which was a delightful surprise. The eggs were from their own chickens. The bathroom is well stocked including bath products for that long soak in the bath you might want after a day of walking or climbing mountains.There was even a little library on local books on the Dales.

Sycamore Cottage was warm, comfortable and situated in a beautiful area, ideal for bracing walks.

The owner, Alison was very helpful and had left nothing to chance as she had stocked the bathroom with all manner of toiletries, the kitchen with coffee ,tea, eggs, milk, biscuits and more. Very thoughtful.

Sycamore Cottage had been thoughtfully well equipped with practical provisions to make the holiday really easy & enjoyable.

The cottage was very well equipped, clean, with lots of added extras.

The location is brilliant, lots of walks directly from the door and plenty of information in the cottage to find the walks and inspire you to do them. The owners live next door to and were very friendly and helpful, but without bothering you. This holiday has helped prove that faith can be restored with Sykes's properties after the bad experience from earlier this year

The cottage was lovely and have everything you could possibly need.

The biscuits (for us and the dog), tea and coffee were very much appreciated on arrival. The cottage was warm and cosy with amazing views, and good pub just up the road (dog friendly) which served lovely food. The only thing the cottage doesn't have is Wi-Fi and neither O2 or Vodaphone have any phone signal, it didn't bother us as its nice to get away from it all, the pub up the road has Wi-Fi if you need it for planning your trips out. The owners were welcoming and friendly and we are planning to return soon.
